If Riley is retained

What assistants jump ship for safer waters?

Now that's a interesting discussion-- what assistants could get parallel or better jobs. The WR coach (as long as he submits to drug/alcohol testing), corners coach and maybe LB coach are the only ones that could get interest from other P5 programs imho.

Linebacker coach would leave. He had offers last off season. DB coach will go back west for even more money.

IMO, I should say that the only slim chance that MR is here for another season is if NU's top targets are not available.

If this is the case, we need to just rip the bandaid off, and see where we fall. R

If you are going to do that, you just need to know that your top target is willing to accept an offer.....you also better have an AD hired that can start that search.

A great AD is going to want to make that hire.

Diaco for sure.

Bounds & Green will fire Riley before an AD is announced so the new AD does not have to fire a head football coach in his first month on the job. Its called bad PR and perception that an AD does not want. If he is not fired before the new AD is announced then an agreement has already been agreed upon by Riley and UNL that will just take place after or right before the Iowa game. These things are just common sense.

I think Parella has done a very good job with the DL.

I guess we will see. I think the AD search is getting pretty close, and so that means Riley would have to go very soon. If we get smoked horribly at home to OSU it could happen, but after that we have at least 1 winnable game, and it would be hard to do after a win. It will be an interesting timeline for sure, but I bet the biggest part of the AD convo is how to handle the next football coach. Is it this year, or next.

There is ZERO chance in hell that Riley will be retained!!! Nebraska is going to allow the new AD to personally fire Riley, and choose his own new Coach. Riley is already GONE.

If an AD can't handle firing a coach when it's part of his job, I don't want that AD.

Watch Riley beat OSU and finish with 8 wins...now that would be an interesting dilemma for an AD.o_O

When Bill Byrne took the job at A&M he made the administration fire Slocum first - Slocum out on Monday, Byrne in as AD on Tuesday. He didn't want the taint of firing a coach who was still popular with a lot of the fans. Steve Pedersen put himself in a box by not addressing the Solich issue one way or the other before accepting the job, if he fired him immediately he would have been viewed as not giving Solich a chance and by waiting a year he had to fire a 9 win coach under pressure from boosters. If the decision has been made to fire MR when an AD is found, it is much cleaner to have the administration fire him before the AD comes on board.

And while they're at it, replace the basketball coach too!

Funny at all you guys saying “oh....there’s zero chance Rileys back next season”. Seeing how this weekend went, Green talking to Parsons and BOOKIE and there families and they seemed more then happy with what they heard. Now Bookie is the give away, he’s a HUGE Riley guy, he’s only a Husker because of Riley, if Green told him Riley was gone after this season or anything along that line. We’d seen Bookie decommit after this weekend and we’d see the dominoes start falling already. I think some of you guys who are so SURE that Rileys gone after this season, will have a big surprise coming for them after the seasons done and Rileys still here with new AD backing him as long as he keeps showing progression.

Progression. 9 wins to 3 or 4 is progress? Or maybe you mean progress in recruiting. I wonder how good the class would have to be to overcome a 3-9 or 4-8 season at NU. Im thinking top 5. Crystal clear progress pointing to a very bright future. Its true this season isnt over and no 3-9 isnt guaranteed but what would u say is more likely 3-9 or 7-5? 9-3 or 8-4 is a pipe dream. It would take a miracle on a colossal scale to do that. Are we really so close to apathy that a 3-9 or 4-8 season would be accepted because of a recruiting class outside the top 15? I refuse to be ok with that. Im tired of hoping. Its time to get it right. If purdue can find a coaching staff good enough to turn things around quickly so can we. I like MR hes a good person. He represents the program well. And I do want him to succeed. But it just looks like an insane long shot at this point. His OC and his OL coach are killing him. He looks tired and even a little sick. He may have bit off more than he could chew here. Bottom line if he can get to 6 wins with a very strong class and he makes changes on the staff I can stay on the roller coaster a bit longer. If not......

Well, that's true enough! But after Pedeyshine & SE.....it's difficult to imagine NU picking a competent (or even a somewhat average) AD.

But there's no dodging the bullet this time. We either get a good AD or we're Minnesota. Time is running out.......

It's amazing, but fans here care more about February rankings than fall ones. They soil themselves.
And the Feb rankings aren't even that good if anyone is actually paying attention, nor is everyone making it to campus.
