If our upper classes lack talent and are as bad as some on this site would like you to believe, then why aren't more underclassmen contributing? I'm not claiming that our upperclassmen are world beaters, but if there is truly a lack of talent in those classes, shouldn't the young kids be beating them out? It's not like other teams are all relying only on upperclassmen. Here's a quick look at the number of freshman and sophomores listed as starters at the other schools in the BigTen:
1. Illinois-13 freshman and sophomores listed as starters
2. Michigan St.-12
3. Minnesota- 11
Michigan-11
5. Iowa-8
6. Purdue-7
Ohio St.-7
Northwestern-7
9. Wisconsin-6
Penn St.-6
Nebraska-6
12. Rutgers-5
Indiana-5
14. Maryland-4
I'm not writing the young kids off, just saying that it's not unheard of for freshmen and sophomores to play and if ours were so great, or our upperclassmen were so bad, you'd think we'd be a little higher on that list.
