SE deserved this and I think it should have been done earlier.
Having said that I still think this team has potential. The defense has been getting better every week. The offense has looked great some moments and terrible at other moments, but if it can stop shooting itself in the foot, it could be pretty good.
Eventually the new AD is gonna want to hire his own coach, but why not be patient and if MR can get the team more competitive then let him coach a few years until he retires. The new AD could then use that time to scout HC prospects.
