I don't understand the vitriol about DH

The offense is in shambles and one of the worst in the nation. The head coach did what a CEO should do; identify the weakness and correct it.

DH is not an unknown commodity, he has a proven track record of developing QBs and his offenses were constantly in the top 15 of the nation. (This should have happened the last bye week)

Where is the downside? Rhule wants the seniors to go out with a winning record and give them something they have not experienced... A bowl game!! If you see this as a panic move or a bush league move, you need to open your mind to a coach doing what is necessary to correct problems before the complete implosion. Satterfield was not working and Rhule got fed up with him not calling the game plan

I salute Rhule for making the move and hiring a proven winner 🏆.
You got a like for this.

I'd rather see the ball ran, but if he can get us a bowl game this year I'm not going to complain.

People want their pound of flesh. There is no down side. As it was constructed previously we lose 3 straight no bowl.

Maybe we still do but at least we have a chance. New set of eyes, new ideas, new play caller. After watching what we did I'm not sure how someone could have a problem with trying someone else. Let alone an experienced OC and play caller.

People just want their flesh is the best guess. Same people who cried all year about wanting Sat fired are the same one who don't like the move now that it's basically happened lol. That's Nebraska fan in a nutshell...

Who's spewing vitriol about DH? Any negativity I've seen is directed firmly at HCMR for getting us into this situation to begin with. Which is very fair. For what we're paying him and for what we've been sold by him, it's pretty reasonable for fans to be a little salty about having wasted the last 1 ¾ years while Rhule has sold us a bag of crap. I think most, if not all of us are very happy about getting OCDH.
This post is proof of how nobody will ever be satisfied unless a head coach is immediately successful. Sometimes you take shots and miss and you have to adjust. Past coaches weren’t willing to make changes and admit that what they tried didn’t work. Rhule just did what many stubborn coaches before him couldn’t and people are still pissed. Meaning either he had to have all the right pieces in place and been successful right from the bat and nothing else is acceptable.

I understand your point, but you're being too extreme. Both things can be true. We can be happy that Rhule was willing to admit that what he tried didn't work and made the change AND still be disappointed that he didn't get it right the first time. Both are very reasonable IMO

That’s fair. But many aren’t just dissapointed, they’re calling him incompetent and a terrible coach.

alot could be iowa fans, or cu fans, or ksu fans...hell bent on subversion...or their mom or dad never taught them anything but instant gratification. there's all kinds on the internet voices from the grandstands

Getting us into this situation? Seriously? We've been in this situation long before Coach Rhule got here.

We can look up hours of low lights as evidence. An offensive lineman falling on his ass presnap. A Wisconsin RB rushing for over 400 yards and sitting out the 4th quarter. An onside kick while up 11 points. Punting a line drive to Jayden Reed who ran in a straight line to the end zone. Multiple punts for negative yardage. I'll leave it at that, but others can add to the list if they wish. It's a long list.
None of those had anything to do with the Satterfield hire. It was a head scratcher at the time and this is the result.

Many or a few? Regardless, my post (at least that one) was a far cry from "proof of how nobody will ever be satisfied unless a head coach is immediately successful"

There aren’t that many. I haven’t seen a single post calling Rhule incompetent. But I wouldn’t argue with a poster who did. He’s 10-11. I think he will turn it around but won’t argue with a poster who sees it differently.

year 1 was the shot where he missed, and he was afforded quite a bit of grace.

75% of the way through year 2, and we're still seeing the exact, easily diagnosable problems from year 1, to the tune of losing 3 very winnable games.

CEOs making 7 figure salaries don't get to let company problems fester for nearly 15 months without making a change and not their own competence called into question by the board of directors.

The situation is obviously bigger than Satterfield. But this move to DH should help, especially with regard to keeping & bringing in offensive talent.
I agree and am 100% behind it. But I stand behind the belief that Rhule probably should have hired a bit differently the first time around. As long as he is seeing it now that’s the important thing.

this is exactly right

Rhule said yesterday that this is a move to "win now" and it's "not for next year"

which is exactly why I believe it is a move for next year and beyond, this November be damned
Why does the offense need to be overhauled in 10 days? I am sure there are plenty of plays in the playbook that can be used for the remainder of the year, that have a semblance to what HolgersEn wants to run.

I am sure over the next few weeks, Holgersen can add in additional concepts off the existing playbook with minimal adjustments.

CEO of a college football team is not the same as CEO of a regular company. This comparison is tired and pointless. This comparison started with coaches and ADs justifying huge salaries so they started comparing themselves to CEOs

tired and pointless when it doesn't suit your narrative and experience. spot on when you've worked in an environment with a reporting hierarchy greater than TA and principal.

the point remains that they are a leader of a staff of employees and tasked with intelligent delegation.

DH may be wanting to get back into coaching. If he turns our offense around he would deserve a shot. Our offense hasn't been good in a long time.

Its just pointless and tired. A football coach is a football coach. When I ran the Youth Football Association, I wasn't a CEO. I was responsible leading staff and delegation, for getting coaches, balancing budget, fundraising/ sponsorships, obtaining the practice fields, dealing with parents etc and I coached a team. Nothing like running a cafe or a diner, let alone a corporation.

Well, first of all, this is just wrong. Pelini let go his own brother. Riley made changes in the same time frame. Frost got a new OC going into his 3rd year. People are tired of being gaslighted into thinking the same patterns are going to play out differently this time, when all evidence so far seems to point to the contrary.

This hire all but ensures the offense won’t be overhauled (one pass-happy OC to another)

I’m looking forward to seeing it

yeah i have no doubt that being the head volunteer for peewee football is nothing like being a 7 figure CEO or the leading coach for a program that draws $200mm+ in annual revenue.

Fans and media are the shareholders to the HC that is the CEO, it's really not controversial.

i did not read this thread, just the opening headline. fans are so thin-witted. one day he's the 5* phenom. the next he's an overhyped douche. it happens at every school, not just here, i get that. but as an old, i must say it's bad reflection of today's game exacerbated by nil.

Maybe read next time before commenting? This thread has absolutely nothing to do with 5 star phenoms, overhyped douchebags, nor NIL. There are some olds with horrible takes like you. So, hey...you at least hit on one thing

LOL - you only mentioned leadership and task delegation. If you want to call anyone in the football program a CEO it is Susan Elza who runs the whole thing. I'd bet Rhule is involved in less than 10% of her daily decisions and tasks.

i won't, because that's retarded. i'd bet her salary is less than 10% of Rhule's for that reason.

Remember the last three games of Frost’s fourth season? That’s what I expect from Holgerson taking over, a major improvement in preparation and organization. Will it translate to wins? Who knows and who cares because Satt sure wasn’t getting it done.

I love the sentiment OP, but you realize you just started another multi-page thread hashing out the same argument with the same 3-4 posters regurgitating the same vitriol on the same topic? You're not going to sway them from their mission to shit on everything Matt Rhule says or does because they've made up their minds. They don't care about Nebraska succeeding, they just want to win the message board.
I was out for a few days and heard of the switch. When I opened this board I was dismayed by the response. Rhule has this team digging and scratching and competing unlike the last regime. I personally think Rhule told Satt after the first week start calling the proper game plan or your finished. ( I heard rumors he pulled Satterfield calling plays in the second half of UCLA)

I'm not sure DH is the permanent answer but can't be worse than what we got. I love the fact Rhule took control and made the change. His days in the NFL must have taught him something.

Anyway, I thought there would be more of a positive response and looking forward to the future. There is too much talent on this team to be this flat. If the team is not sold on the game plan, they won't put forth the proper effort and blocking. Satt telegraphed all his plays by his sub packages and the defenses had him figured out. I hope DH keeps one RB in the game for more than three plays in row.
