i can't figure this hoop team out...

They went on a losing streak after realizing Meah shouldn't be on the court. Took time to figure out new lineups and coach up defense to go along with those lineups.

We had a discussion about this last week. I listed the remaining game and said if we can get to 19-20 wins including a win in the BIG we have a chance to make the tourney. At that point we were at 12 wins and it seemed improbable....but alas here we are at 14 wins.. We have knocked of 4 ranked teams. 2 on the road I believe.

So what's left? can we get 5-6 of these next 10 games? Plus 1 in the BIG? Should be fun to watch.

Welcome to college basketball!!! Unless you are a top 5 team, maybe top 10 team, there will almost certainly be stretches that are headscratchers. Creighton looked bad for a while, our most recent opponent in Oregon has lost 3 straight and 4 of 5 games while ranked about #15. UCLA was also ranked at that level and stunk it up for a while. Nebraska is not at that level. Lots of winnable games left as Cavalot showed in post #6. Enjoy the ride!

Don't worry they will miss the tourney
Maybe, but a week ago that seemed like a sure thing. Now not so much. I'm pretty sure you counted these last two games as losses prior to playing. As did a lot of people.

I'm sticking with a 40% chance that they can finish with 20+ wins. It that's the case with 4 or 5 top 20 wins...They got a 90% chance of getting in.

... but i love the trend....😂😂😂
The collapse at Iowa followed up by Purdue's 19 of 33 3 point performance seemed to really get to the team. Glad they were able to shake that off. This team can beat almost anyone when they play with confidence... but please please please stop playing like a .500 high school team when someone does a full court press. Drives me insane how poorly they handle the pressure and a majority of the time it's a very weak press too!

They actually handled it well last night and had something like 19 layup/dunks. They won that game last night shooting horrible from the 3 point line. Maybe 2 or 3 made threes. This team plays best when they are getting to the hoop and scoring inside the arc. Gary made a big 3 down the stretch but his shooting from beyond the arc should be situational only. He is so good around the basket...stay there.

Oregon helped us IMMENSELY with how badly they shot it from the perimeter last night early on and that wasn’t just due to our defense. As ridiculously well as some teams have shot it from 3 against us at times this year it was bound to even out.

Just looking at this and yes replying to myself.

Minnesota is 11-11. If we continue to play like we have this week. This should be another win.
Michigan is 15-5. We can get them at home but I'm going Loss here.
Rutgers is 11-10. If we can handle their Dynamic duo we can get them. I'm going win here.

So 2-1 over the next 8 days. We can do this. that puts us at 16 wins and a sure bet to make the BIG. with the remaining schedule.

Yeah I was much more encouraged by last night's win than the one over Illinois. That was a good win too, but Illinois clanked a lot of open shots and Essegian was on a hot streak. Last night the defense was really well-connected, making Oregon work for everything. And NU handled Oregon's press really well, attacking the rim and making them pay for the full-court pressure.

Before the game Pavelka noted that Sam was leading the team at 47% from 3. Who knew? I kept saying he was a decent shooter from the arc but had no idea he was shooting it that well. IF he had made a few more last night it could have turned in to a blowout.

Outside of his 3pt %, this is his worst year so far. I'd be okay with taking him down to 2-4 min per game. He's become a liabilty.

I’m afraid having Ulis and Griffiths being busts, and Essegian not guarding anyone, Sam will continue getting minutes. It is what it is.

I’m not sure Ulis is a bust. It was a head scratcher to pick him up in the first place

While Sam was awful last night, he's generally done okay in his limited role.

What some people don't seem to get is that Sam's not a point guard - not in any way, shape or form. He's a high-energy guy who can give the team some decent minutes, but someone else - mainly Williams and Worster - will be running the point during those minutes.

Has there been some adjustment on defense? Fewer doubles in the post? Not sure really, neither Illinois or Oregon seemed to put much effort on passing the ball into the post. Anyway, I wish I knew what was wrong with Williams during the bad stretch. He didn't seem happy but he sure has perked up now. I hope it continues.

Also, Morgan - what a great pickup that guy was. Wish we had him back next year for a rotation with Rienk.

6-3 down the stretch gets us to .500 in conference play. Win 1 in the BIG tourney and likely get a 10 seed. No wins in the tourney and anywhere from 11 to NIT.....

Fred should put Griffiths into the game Wednesday to guard Wilhelm Breidenbach - just for the comedic value.

Rambis Mania!!!

Looked up WB's stats last night. Pretty meh. Griffiths might embarrass him.
