Since I am not him, you would have to ask Fred Hoiberg why he isn't pressuring his employer. From everything I have read, there were multiple transfers that were initially interested in Nebraska that signed elsewhere for more money.

If you want me to speculate, I would write, what I already wrote, that boosters and corporations aren't putting a priority on basketball NIL dollars. Just as I am donating money to football and not basketball. So again I ask, where is your money going?

Edit - For the record that isn't changing the subject. My post answered your question. You asked why isn't Hoiberg screaming from the rooftops etc. I wrote, that perhaps the money boosters aren't donating to basketball and are more concerned with getting football in a place to compete nationally.

I don't think he's the type to bluntly say in a post game interview though that we have to fund NIL better so we can get better players than the guys I'm having to play now but that's the bottom line IMO.

Don’t change the subject. You eluded to Fred not getting the necessary support. I asked why would Fred not advocate for himself, for what he needs to succeed? You didn’t answer the question.

If your boss isn’t giving you what you need to do the job he’s hired you to do, you go to him at let him know, privately. If he isn’t willing to work with you and your job is on the line you make your grievances public, get people on your side and put the pressure on your employer. Fred isn’t doing any of that. Why?

To be fair, we really don't know what Fred is or isn't doing behind the scenes. I assume that he IS banging the table for more NIL support. No coach would ever make those issues public, it would probably result in his firing and it would for sure create a picture of a coach that doesn't even believe in his program's ability to succeed. Why would anyone transfer to a place where the coach is publicly saying he doesn't get enough support to win?

And if your plan didn’t work like you thought it would, you can’t just say… “welp, that’s the best we can do” and expect to remain employed. Your job is solve it, change your plan, find innovative new ways to generate money. That’s your job.

Your job’s on the line, say it in public so everyone hears like Rhule did. I’ve listen to hours upon hours local sports radio and I’ve never once heard Fred openly advocate for more NIL money. I’ve heard him thank fans and NIL donors for their support. You say he’s done this, but I’ve never heard one iota of it.

If Fred has ever said anything to the effect… “We need more NIL donations and more money to compete with best for players. We love what we have, but we need more to be a perennial NCAA team. And that’s what I expect us to be.”

Well, to be fair, I think he's saying we're paying Fred too much. It's a reasonable argument when you look at the results. That said, many if not most thought Fred was a homerun hire, including me. I still like the hire. The contract is ridiculous IMO but he was rewarded after his COY honors right? I like Fred and my expectations of what is realistic to expect from NU basketball are pretty low. I don't think shuffling coaches repeatedly is a winning solution and the question always is similar to NFL player contract extensions. Do you wait until they're a free agent, or do you try to sign them before salary inflation makes it tough to resign them. Methinks we probably shot our wad too early with Fred and now we're kind of stuck with him for at least a couple of years. Not sure who people think we should have hired other than Fred at the time we hired him.

We had a better team last year and ended up getting boat raced by A&M in the tourney. I’m disappointed this years team imploded, but when I consider the roster of this team, I’m not shocked. It wasn’t good. We had no point guard and Morgan is not good enough of a big man to make a difference. Let’s face it. This was not a tourney caliber team. I’m disappointed in Fred. But the more I read and think about it, the more I wonder if he’s strapped on what he has to work with in terms of NIL. Is the admin supporting what he needs? Maybe it’s not all Fred’s fault.

It seems every post comes back to the point guard play and lack of NIL.

I am going to go out on a limb and say we lack good fundamental coaching on both sides of the ball and athletic players at all positions with the point guard the least important. I get a lot of KU games in my area and while Harris is a steady PG, he isn't a dragon slayer by any means. I don't think the point guard of today is as critical as they were many years ago when the PG did the bulk of ball handling, now everyone except stone handed big men do that. Here are Harris 22-23 stats: He averaged 8.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game last season. Assists are a big thing but his long range shooting is very suspect.

We simply have to get more athletic players across the board for the first step. The game is getting away from the screen because of too many fouls called. You need quickness, jumping ability, strength and agility to take the ball to the rim. Guys are shooting left and right handed runners off the glass constantly. Get that going and you open up the outside for shooters, providing we can get some.

We do not have any inside presence on O or D. Where are the shot blockers/enforcers? We don't have the guy who skies above everyone, especially in traffic, to get a rebound. We jump slow, don't man up and get out jumped constantly. Even five more rebounds a game would be huge.

I honestly have no idea what Fred is running half the time, especially late in games. He puts four guys out wide and lets them just stand there while someone, Williams most often, just dribbles and dribbles some more. They just have to defend one person and as soon as they go right or left, the defender comes over to help and we are in trouble. No movement, don't make the D actually defend. I get we are trying to isolate but this takes it to an extreme that does not work. How many successful last shots have we had?

Our D is horrendous. Put the ball on the floor against us and drive to the rack. We can't keep up, playing side saddle D and after they get by us, we have no board washer to take care of things. We get burned on the double team when teams can hit the 3's and why we can't defend by going over a screen instead by under is beyond me. We are soft on D, terribly soft. If you can't shoot lights out, you better get some cheap buckets on the D side to make up for it. We get none of that.

Impossible to know what most teams will look like next year. The transfer portal has changed everything.

Look at St John's, coaching aside, the biggest difference is their roster from last year to this year. Probably not the norm but I don't think they have but 4 players that were on the roster last year still on the team, and those that were are either sophomores Pitino recruited or guys he brought in from the transfer portal his first year. The only players that started their careers at St. John's are the freshmen and 1 or 2 sophs. He has already stated he won't be recruiting the high school kids anymore. They don't have a huge NIL budget, unless Pitino is funding it himself, they don't have football money to subsidize the basketball programs. He just finds players that fit his style of play that were unhappy with their situation at other schools.

Except when you look at St. Johns, you can't put coaching aside. Pitino is front and center, and head and shoulders above most coaches.

The last Nebraska hire I can remember that didn’t fit into that category was Dave Van Horn. John Cook probably wouldn’t have fit the pattern either, except for Petit’s master stroke of bringing him on as an assistant before handing him the keys.

Get fired? 🤣 What do you think is gonna happen if he misses the tournament next year? Rhule made it public in a spring/summer press conference a couple years ago that he needed more NIL money to get the best players. Rhule did get fired, he more NIL money.
