Husker women's basketball freshman Taylor Kissinger erupted for Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star Game records with 26 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Blue Team to an 85-81 victory over the Red squad at Lincoln North Star High School on Monday night.
Kissinger, a 6-1 guard/forward from Minden, Nebraska, hit 10-of-21 shots from the field and grabbed 13 defensive rebounds, while also snagging three steals. She also hit the game's biggest shot with her 25-footer from the left wing to give the Blue team an 85-79 lead after the Red cut the margin to 82-79 with 1:40 left. Kissinger's game-clinching three also gave her the NCA All-Star Game scoring record.
Kissinger starred at Minden High School throughout her prep career, claiming one of five spots on Nebraska's Super-State team in 2017, despite missing much of her senior season with an injury. She was also the honorary captain of the 2017 Class C1 All-State Team, averaging 24.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game for the Whippets.
Kissinger was ranked as the No. 26 overall player in the nation by Prospects Nation and finished as ESPN's No. 38 player in the country. She finished her high school career with 1,751 points, despite missing a combined 27 games as a junior and senior because of wrist injuries. She added 611 rebounds, 310 assists and 202 career steals. She hit 53 percent of her field goal attempts, including 37 percent of her career three-point attempts, while knocking down 78 percent of her free throws. She was also one of five Nebraska players on the 2016 USA Today High School Sports All-Nebraska Team in 2015-16.
