Husker Night in KC...

A friend went and said it was a nice night for a game and there was a good crowd. My buddy even got to see Drew Butera pitch. My god the Royals are horrible. Hard to believe they won it all 3 years ago.

They're almost impossible to watch. Will Alex Gordon make it through the last year of his contract in 2019?

Honestly, I dont know. The thing about Gordon is he's still playing defense at a gold glove level, but his bat is horrid.
Some guys just can't walk away. Willie Mays stayed too long. What Alex prevents with his glove just barely makes it tolerable to watch him at the plate. To the point sad.

Well, Gordon will undoubtedly play through next year. He is under a guaranteed contract through 2019, with a $4 million buyout for 2020. The Royals will surely pay the $4 million then and say good-bye.

Gordon has not been the same player since he tore his groin in 2015 (3 years ago today, coincidentally). We all remember the critical home run in game 1 of the World Series that year; but even with that key moment, you can see the sharp drop-off in his offensive production beginning with his return from that injury.

That said, Gordon probably doesn't even crack the top 10 when it comes to the things wrong with the Royals this year. I would say they're unwatchable - but that's not true. There is a certain amount of gallows humor in watching to see how purely awful they can be.

It's hard to believe that, record wise, this probably will be the worst Royals team ever. That's saying a mouthful because god knows we've seen some terrible teams over the years. Should we have hope knowing that we won it all in 2015, thus proving that it's possible? Or should we be depressed knowing that it was basically a one-in-a-million stroke of luck that we won? I sure feel depressed....

I'm just thankful today that the abortion that was the Esky starting streak is finally over. What an embarrassment to run that guy out there game after game.
