Since this is a rivals site look up rivals and founder bobby burton. Also go to husker max.
Nebraska had a ranking of 17 in 2000, 39 in 2001, 35 in 2002, 35 in 2003, all composite rankings from 247 Sports.

In 1998 or 1999, Neither Wallace or Lemming had Nebraska in their top ten classes. Kind of shoots down your top ten in three of his six year stuff. Had he had top ten classes every year, he might have stayed longer, recruiting was his downfall.
Sorry, come again?

Give Riley time. I'm mad as hell we lost but continually hitting the reset button isn't going to make thing better any sooner. We are recruiting well, we just have to trust we are on the general uptrend as a program. Even if the year to year results don't correlate

Huh? You have to be from the generation that got a participatory trophy.

I don't always agree with your posts but 100% agree with this.

This current group of high school seniors, approximately 1/2 were alive the last time Nebraska won a conference championship. Meaning they were newborns.

Kids alive now have never seen Nebraska be a true national power. If you were a teenager or adult in the glory days and are calling for Riley's firing, you are an idiot. This is not Nebraska of the 60s, 70s, 80s, or 90s, and College football is not the same game as it was in the 60s, 70s, 80s, or 90s.

All this fire Riley talk is just F'ing stupid. I fear Nebraska's future relevancy is directly tied to Riley to getting Nebraska back to at least being ranked consistently. Fire him now, it's panic move, it'd be seen as a panic move, and it'd probably mean I'll never see Nebraska be relevant again in my lifetime.

Oregon has more speed, and more depth. They underachieved last year, and frankly I thought we'd lose by 28 points before the game started.[/QU

This is about the 5th time I have written this tonight. Oregon will lose 4 games in the Pac 12. The Huskers got whipped by a unranked average team that wears shiny uniforms

Husker football died the day Solich was fired.

You're correct. We used to be unique. Then, one day, we decided we'd be just like everyone else.

Mandel from SI wrote a story back in '03 basically stating that NU was making a mistake. We had an identity that was different from any other school. He said that once we lost that identity, that which made us unique, we'd never be the same. He knew that we'd never be able to consistently win the recruiting battle for the prototypical NFL skill position players. He was right.

Solich should have got another year. Even though he was born in Ohio, he was a Nebraska guy. He helped build the program in his playing days up to being Osborne's right hand man until he got the head job. The guy embodied what Nebraska football use to be about. The guy lived and breathed Nebraska football. We kept everything in the family. We were different than just about any other program out there. We believed in recruiting to a system that was different than what most were running. It centered around development and physical football. We use to laugh at teams which we are essentially now. We are a soft pro style team with no edge. A lot of Nebraska fans are getting what they deserve for the Solich firing. A fair share of Nebraska fans are delusional. Osborne would have even been fired back in the day if it weren't for Devaney. We struck lighting with two great coaches in a row, and Solich was a solid coach, but he wasn't good enough for a lot of Nebraska fans, and here we are today making changes every so many years. We will likely be making another change in the next two years.

He is a PA boy, born in Johnstown. grew up in Ohio.

We should have hired Alvarez after Tom retired. Solich isn't a premiere coach.

Doing fine with recruiting now that we have recruiters

Frank had top ten recruiting classes in three of his six years...two of them after '99.
And his last two were in the 40s and he left Callahan with Mike Stuntz and Joe Dailey at QB.and one serviceable I-back in Corey Ross. On top of that he hired a DC that hated recruiting and refused to do it.... We had virtually nothing in the O line to work with when Frank left. His last two classes were complete disasters.

Also, I would look to see when those players in the 98 class committed and when Osborne announced his retirement. Most of that class was his doing and the fact that coming off the most 3 national titles 4 years. Solich then got the initial push from being the hand picked successor and parlayed that into a couple of other good classes, then they saw how he managed a game and ran the program, and the recruiting results dried up.

The program died when Osborne was allowed to pick his own successor. Like it or not.

I would agree if Mike Riley wasn't almost 65 years old. I'd be surprised if he has more than 2-3 years left in him. So we will be hitting the reset button soon regardless. It's not like he's a young guy learning how to be a head coach and building for a long future.
agree 100%. That's why I mentioned this is an earlier post.

Non-existent succession planning. Shameful.

He had a top ten recruiting class in '01 and Osborne retired in '97. He had a bad year in 2002 and canned assistants and brought in better ones that turned the program around going 9-3. Pederson screwed up Solich's last class and Shawn followed the same footsteps with Bo. In both cases, if they were going to pull the trigger, they should have done it a year earlier. That's on the AD's.

I would love to have Frank's top ten classes now. All this feel good stuff about recruiting and our highest class is #20. This year is starting to look like top 20 recruiting will be a pipe dream.

How about his classes in the 40s? You want them too? Yeah I know you can cherry pick a service to find them in the 30s. The proof was what we had when Callahan took over. Frank's highest ranked recruits didn't pan out. Hell one of them OU pulled an offer on because of a known medical condition that they knew would never allow him to play D-1 football. OT from South Dakota 4 star kid that was the plum "stolen from OU" for Frank. Never played a down. Just quit Tom, or Mrs. Tom or Mrs Doubtfire or whatever you want to call yourself tonight.

Well, his second to last one wasn't in the 40's. He also brought in 1 five star and 5 four stars that year. That would be considered a pretty good year these days.

Also, his last class shouldn't be considered in the 40's. It was in the top 25 when one considers average stars. (You can do that, right?)

As far as stealing guys, didn't we have a huge coup in stealing an awesome defensive back this past year that everyone and their brother knew wasn't going to qualify.

In all fairness to you have never seen the real nebraska -- I have seen greatness many times. I want it back

You obviously have no idea how college sports work in this day and age. This isn't the good ole days when only 5-10 teams were relevant. So you just want to fire coaches every 3 years if they don't work out? Great way to build a program. Open your eyes and look at the roster that needed to be revamped, and is being done. This change wasn't going to happen over night. Try understanding sports before you pop off.

To add to this, people brought up Mandel and how we are losing our identity and we will never be the same again. How the hell can we develop an identity again if we keep firing coaches. I like the trend our recruiting is going. So Elvis time to leave the building, because people like you are a BIGGER part of the problem then what you are complaining about.

Top 25 on average stars witha bunch of unfilled scholarships and a bunch of 2 stars and again his prize recruits didn't do diddly. Keep spinning Tom. Everybody liked Frank. I didn't want him fired but he wasn't getting it done.

I love how you spin these things. It's NOT OK to say we were really #42 last year in recruiting because people didn't even make it on the team, but it IS OK to say Frank wasn't really #25...or #7 or #9 or #10 because in your estimation the players didn't pan out.

Either numbers matter or they don't.

Neither of Frank's last two classes were ranked #25 by anybody but you Tom. On top of his shortage of recruits they didn't address critical needs. Average stars doesn't mean a thing if you're 7 or 8 guys short of what you need to make a quality starting lineup. Same twisted "facts" by a "man of the cloth" posing as his wife after being banned for trolling. Laughing

OK...I just thought we were looking at average stars this year.

Alvy's reputation exceeds his production. Had some good teams, most middle of the road...heck, he was under .500 against Iowa.

Every now and again, we need to have a Frank thread. Pretty clear to me that even if he didn't deserve to be canned when he did, the year following wasn't going to be as good as 03 on offense. Joe D wasn't the QB that Lord was and Lord was actually a safety playing QB. However, I think Pelini would have had the defense up to the task of keeping us in a lot of games and we would have won more games than Cally did with those same players and made a bowl game. There was still good talent on the defensive side. I don't think we lose to S. Miss, ISU, probably not CU, and we don't get boat-raced by TX Tech. The season ends up at 3 or 4 losses before the bowl.
But of course the tape cannot be rewound and played over. And with Frank, we probably bounce around 3-5 loss seasons, battling CU and KState for the North. Then again, that's not different than where we are right now.

Todays game was another moral victory -- great losing effort -- ra ra -- the school needs new leadership and the fans demand real talent, not nice guys. GBR forever -- I will go down with the ship F IT

HUSKER football died the minute Solich took over and the Board let him!! Beyond that the boards hires and adjustments and timing and leadership has been horrific considering who has been available over the 20 year drought they have led us into FOR 20 YEARS !! these academics need to go -- we need an elway, type AD and we need him now !!

Yes i was at the 2001 national championship -- we had no business being there -- last real team we had was in 1997 w frost as QB

WE NEED CHANGES AT THE TOP -- WHOEVER BROUGHT IN RILEY NEEDS TO BE FIRED -- WHOEVER APPROvED HIM NEEDS TO BE FIRED -- IM ASKING RILEY TO RESIGN and to RESCIND HIS CONTRACT.

HEADS NEED TO ROLLL -- LET RILEY FINISH THE SEASON START SEARCHING NOW FOR NEW AD AND NEW HEAD COACH AND NEW CHANCELLOR BOARD OR WHATEVER THEY CALL THEMSELVES

PLEASE DON'T BOTHER SPELLCHECKING OR GRAMMAR __ IDGAF

DOES ANYONE ELSE EVEN CARE ANYMORE

GBR
