Hes not their number 1. He is on the list, but way below a bunch of other guys. They say that if pat haden hired him he would be on the hot seat because hiring a 2-4 coach would send the boosters into a frenzy out there.
He's not #1 now because he it is assumed he isn't available. The point of the article is if MR was still at OSU he would be #1. After firing Bo how many coaches do you think were on our list that was 6 games into a new job? Zero is my guess.
Right, but that was written by the Oregonian...not USC. Also, had there been a guy with Nebraska ties that was 6-0 at his current job hell yes you would go for him...not 2-4, though...if Riley was 6-0, I could definitely see USC going for him. The first time USC went after him he was in his first year with the Chargers. He tried to get out of his contract, but couldnt.
He is 2 and 4 career .500 coach sigh. Why do you post this stuff to make yourself feel better. Riley won't make it beyond year 2. He can't beat crappy teams in the conference. Not a Bo fan but jeez we are losing to some crappy teams. After this weekend 2 and 5. What will Mr. Rogers say at his presser.
2009 Mike Riley might be on their list, but not 2015 Mike Riley. He would have been lucky to win more than 3 games at Oregon State this year and keep his job there. The Beavers are horrible.
After 6 games? I'm still on the Riley bandwagon.

Support the coach until it is undeniably clear he needs to go. He is nowhere close to that point and won't be till year 3 at the earliest. All aboard the Mike Trike!
No clue if he is or not, USC Rivals thinks high enough of Riley to have him listed on their "hot list". And many other personalities that follow college football, not related to Oregon State or Riley, think highly of him as well.
I think it's pretty awesome he's on USC's list (their message board mob list anyway).

I wonder why "9 wins Bo" isn't on that list. Surely USC would prefer 9 wins to a .500 coach, right?
The only reason Riley is on the list is because he coached at USC previously. Which is also the only reason they hired mediocre coaches like Sark and Kiffin. They like to keep it in the USC family. If Riley did not have any connections to USC, nobody would bring up his name.
And the calls for Frost as coach here, with Rimington or Alberts as AD are data driven, non-university related hires?
some of you guys can't help yourself when it comes to Riley. yes it sucks being 2-4 but oh well, it is what it is. Riley is getting big time recruits in campus and should land some of them, lost all his game by under 6 points or less, results are coming. just face it, just because you guys aren't big on OUR coach right now doesn't mean ever other team, AD, player and fan base thinks the same way. Riley can coach and will get this team going right soon enough and when he does, God I will gladly remind some of you guys that jumped "The fire him" ship WAY TO DAM EARLY, After 6 games? Let's put a end to the story that Mike Riley was offered the USC head job back in the nineties. I have no doubt he was. But what a lot of people have failed to research is that the USC job was not exactly the same job it is today. John Robinson lead them them to a 9-2-1 record with a Rose Bowl win in 1995. They were 6-6 in 1996 and 6-5 in 1997. Robinson was fired and they hired Paul Hackett. Hackett led them to a Sun Bowl loss and a 8-5 record in 1998. The next two years USC was 6-6 and 5-7. The Pac12 was down in the late nineties. I know as I had UW Husky tickets back then. If you read the old articles you will find after Hackett was fired Pete Carroll talked his way into the job and turned around the program.

Just imagine if Riley jumped ship like some morons are wishing. Takes the Calabas crew and puts USC in multiple playoffs in the next 5-6 years. Posters on this Board would have their minds blown. It's way too soon to declare him a success or failure here. Why can't we just sit back and enjoy the ride?
and I'll be the first to admit, I wanted Tressel or Jim at Michigan or possibly Frost. But we got Riley, at first in was like really, What is wrong with us, if money was no issue, then why didn't we go big time. after researching and looking into it and actually seeing how hes done so far, I am Husker fan and now I'm a Riley fan and will be till he steps down, retires or fails and gets fired. I'm glad we got him and will have his back till hes finished (if in a good or bad manner).

Why are you SO hung up on being right? Tells a LOT about you. None of us know, but what we do know he's the head coach right now. The other side of your argument isn't concerned with being right we're concerned with supporting the program in a positive manner. You hang on to being right though as if anyone gave a rat's ass. SMH
I was told last winter that we were supposed to ignore Canzano because he didn't have a clue after he wrote that scathing expose last fall of Riley's response to the football rapes at OSU. Now he's gospel?
Who's my boy? I wanted Pelini fired in 2013. Of course, I remember many of the prominent posters here blaming Pelini's losses that year on injuries, and that we should be patient with him because we were so close to getting over the hump.
Im not even going to try and list everyone thats visited so far, just last week we had Gebbia (5.9 4 star qb), K Johnson Jr (5.8 4 star wr), O'Brien (5.8 4 star qb), Dismuke (5.8 4 star db), Holmes (5 star CB) and we had a few 5.7 and 5.6 3 star guys there as well, oh and we had 2 4 star Rivals top 150 basketball recruits visites as well and this was this past weekend. Riley and co has a ton of 4 star guys visiting and there is a few 5 star guys in there as well.
