Huskers beat Chadron St tonight 98-45. It sounds like this may be one of the more athletic teams that Tim Miles has had so far. Young, but athletic. Isaiah Roby put on a good show in his first action as a Husker with 16 points and 7 rebounds. He had a play where he got a block on one end and then went coast to coast with a dunk on the other end. Yes, it is only Chadron, but they did what they should do.

I don't know who the point guard was (Taylor I think?) that gave the dish for the dunk, but that was pretty nifty.

Evan Taylor. A juco transfer. Not sure what kind of offensive game he's got, but he's a big guard who can play physical defense.

Horne can shoot. Gill looked off. I am sure that he can shoot better. The Big Man fouled out in this game. Hope that he can stay on the court.

I was blown away, I knew he was good but he's much better than good. The best thing was he led the team in scoring and he wasn't really looking for his shot say like Horne or Gil whom seldom hesitated to shoot. Miles said he's his best recruit ever. Going to be fun to see this team perform the next 3 seasons. I think we are hurting at point guard after Glenn, not impressed with Taylor although Miles appears to be. He looked to score more than create, had a lot of one handed passes that will be TOs against better teams and had several TOs anyway.

Miles said post game he would like to run the offense through Roby so clearly it's just a matter of conditioning before he starts, he's been sitting for that pelvic issue.

Horne surprised me to although I had read he had dropped weight and was looking good. Miles had said he would play this year because he can score the ball. You could see why and he looks SO much better than his HS tape where he looked thick and slow. His game reminded me of Mark Aguire from DePaul, great shooter about 6'8" that can drive and just flat out score. No not saying he's that good, just similar type of game.

Jordy looks really good but raw still. He may foul out of every game this season

Starting lineup looks like this:

Glenn
Tai
Jordy
Michael J.
I. Roby

I hope he is a consistently good shooter because I think he took a lot of bad shots at least for a Miles offense. I think where he may excel for us is the fast break. Glenn can find him on the open floor and let Gill finish.

I don't see anyway Jordy starts this year. The above lineup limits us way too much on the offensive end.

Tonight it was Watson, Webster, McVeigh, Jacobson, Morrow. I can see McVeigh, Morrow or Jacobson being replaced by Roby but can't picture Jordy starting.

Evan Taylor is a good size and has really good vision and physicality.

This is coach Miles best team from an athletic standpoint and basketball IQ. A lot of guys not afraid to score, we'll see how it plays out.

How did the weave look? Are the younger kids picking it up? Did the affectively run the shot clock down and throw up a prayer to be the buzzer?

Jordy does have a long way to go. He struggled getting position both defensively and offensively on a freshman that he outweighs by 40 pounds + and who doesn't even know how to put on his basketball shorts yet. Still, he is athletic and does have his basic footwork down. I have a feeling that by Big 10 play he will look considerably different. However, I doubt if he starts any games this year barring injury.

I was pleasantly surprised by Taylor. He won't be the first option bringing the ball up against a press and his outside shot looked pretty bad last night. But he has the body to muscle up against big guards and showed a pretty high level of athleticism. Has good body control taking the ball to the hoop and has his head up looking for the pass.

All I can say about Roby is that I am trying not to let my hopes get too high yet. But after last night, I am very excited. Yep, it was Chadron State, but it was also his first appearance on the college stage. Looked very composed and allowed the game to come to him. When he's in the game and Watson is on the bench he will likely bring the ball up.

I think we will play 10 guys (mostly because we don't have 5 great ones) and will be pretty athletic. I am not sure how many games this team will win, but I think they will be fun to watch and will once again give us some hope for the future of Husker hoops. I also think Miles thrives in this type of situation. Under the radar, low expectations. Kind of like his first two years here.

Overall I was most impressed with:
Roby. Going to be a star, big time talent.
Watson. Love this kids game and playmaking ability
Morrow. Maybe my favorite recruit of the Miles era, if we can just play him where he fits.
Jacobson. Beast, tough, versatile.

I was a little disappointed with:
Gill. I guess I bought into the hype that he would be a big time scorer.
McVeigh. I was hoping he had expanded his game, still we will need his shooting.
Jordy. Was hoping he could step in and be a presence from Day 1, he will obviously be a work in progress.

Waiting for HB13 to weigh in with his "Miles sucks" posts.Winking

He's busy with his Riley sucks and Erstad sucks posts. He'll get to this thread in due time.

If you guys can find one post where I have said Miles sucks I'd love to see it! Hell, find me where I have said Riley sucks...If it's out there, I'm sure Boxes has it saved. Nice to see I'm deep in your head though. In boxes tiny brain...anything critical(even when warranted) automatically means someone is saying a coach sucks. So sensitive

I got anywhere from 15-15 to 17-13.

6 to 8 Conference wins.

That would be a very successful season. Considering we had a much worse team last year and lost our two leading scorers, plus we have a very young roster.

The refs were certainly in mid-season form this game, at least 3 of the fouls on Jordy were pure crap.
You are correct. I thought maybe the coaches told them to call it tight on him to make sure that he understands why we need him.

Laughing I actually appreciate many of his posts but I get a little frustrated with how negative he gets when things go south.

I've stated on here many times in the past that I actually like Coach Miles. I question some of the things that have happened in the past few years AND I question if he will end up getting the job done here but if he doesn't I don't think that means he sucks. I think we have some good young talent and I hope Eichorst gives him the next few years to get the job done.

Ahhh he appears. That sounds different than what I heard about Miles last winter.

1. I posted in this thread 30 minutes ago-If you're looking for actual game thoughts from me you wont get it as I did not attend.
2. I have questioned Miles in the past and will likely do so this year. That doesn't mean I think he sucks nor does it mean I'm calling for him to be fired. I've said countless times on this board he deserves two more years at the very least.

Another .500 season is very successful? I guess we have different opinions on successful.

I am not a Miles fan, so my opinion is probably biased. I will freely admit to that. I guess I just expected this program to be in a much better place heading into year 5, with the upgrades in facilities and commitment from the athletic department.

I try not to let my opinion of what success is be defined by some feaux ceiling placed on the basketball program. Miles seems to get a pass where guys like Sadler and Collier were getting roasted by the fans, for essentially producing the same results.

I will put it another way. If this team goes .500, I think most people will be pleasantly surprised. Like I said, we were not a .500 team last year and lost our two best players. If this years team is better, that would be pleasant surprise. If this is where we should be in year five of the Tim Miles experience is a completely different discussion. IMO

I have in fact seen you post (when you cooled down after a loss ) that you thought Miles deserved two more seasons. Unfortunately I'm not tech savy enough to go back and find some of your disparaging posts from last winter. You stated your case more eloquently than "Miles sucks" so no doubt you didn't post those actual words. Your negative take though was undeniable and I'm sure it will reappear if we lose to Incarnate Word or someone similar.

Lots of people were telling posters how White was not one of the best players and that it was a good thing he left...I thought that was funny!

That's not exactly going out on a limb as we should not be losing to the likes of Samford or Incarnate Word. Nor should we be the doormat for our instate rival year after year. And I'm not denying I was "negative"....we went 16-18(6-12) last year.

Another thread turns to crap, nice job guys.

Same responses, time after time.

I said it's good he left, after what he pulled. You sure do like to claim stuff that didn't happen.

The current players agree with my first sentence, too bad you can't accept reality.
