Hunter Sallis

WF has the same number of NCAA tourney appearances as NU does over the past 13 years. Does he think Tim Duncan is still playing there???
And yet he is staying well clear of Neb basketball. It is evident to all but a few that when an AD decides to bring back the worst coach in modern history for year 5 (at an historically bad program no less) that he doesn’t give 2 shits about the basketball program, it’s players or fans. Why in the world would a player with any kind of options commit here

No part of this decision makes even a slight bit of sense. Why leave a top 5 team that always is successful and develops NBA level players? He's not trying to play at home? Neither Creighton or NU was good enough? But somehow he lands at freaking Wake Forest? It's his life and his choice. But I would love to hear, from somebody who knows, what made him do this?

Who landed at G Tech?

Gets to play in a historically great basketball league. Playing at Duke and Carolina will be a really cool experience. Living on the east coast after the PNW will be a change and if the opportunity arises why not jump at new experiences

Why is a good question. But it has nothing to do with Fred and/or Trev. This program needs to sacrifice some virgins.

I don't think Creighton even recruited him this time around. With Scheierman returning, and them getting the transfer from Utah State, they didn't need Sallis. He wouldn't have started there next year.

He went from having offers from the likes of UNC, Kentucky, and Kansas out of high school....to now choosing between Nebraska and Wake Forest, two programs that don't have an NCAA Tournament win in the past decade.

I would have taken him in a heartbeat here, I think he could have filled Sam Griesel's role well.....but the big-time programs were no longer interested after he shot 25% from 3-point range the past two years in a mid-major conference. He might not even start at Wake Forest, as they are bringing in another transfer guard who averaged 19 points per game last year, and have two other guards returning who averaged double figures last year.

Forbes at wake forest took over a program coming off 3 consecutive losing seasons and 5 losing seasons in the last 6 years - a worse situation than Fred took over

he has been there 3 years - went 25-10 and 19-14 the last 2 years and hasn't had a losing season in the ACC the last 2 years

compare that to Fred's last 4 years and the decision by Trev to bring him back for year 5

it is clear that the AD and athletic department could not care less about the basketball program

when you look at Fred's record and Trev's clear ambivalence the proper question is why would any player choose to play here -- the answer to the question of why a player decides to go elsewhere is crystal clear

We get it you hate Fred, you keep saying the same things OVER and OVER...... keep up the good work buddy 👍

Wrong …. I hate losing - others appear to be more than content with current state

The poster that responded couldn’t fathom why Sallis would chose Wake over Nebraska. When you look at the objective facts I think it is pretty clear

The same Frostzis that defended Frost until the bitter end are now following the same playbook with the basketball program

he's right, though

it sucks and trev should never be allowed by "fans" to walk 10 feet without hearing about it

but, because people like you & the lapdog media are too meek, he's allowed to get away with essentially throwing a full year into the trash right in front of our eyes.

Since this seems directed at the reponse I made, I'll be clear - I was only questioning his logic in picking a program that has had as little success as NU in recent years. Extrapolating this as not being able to fathom why he picked Wake over NU and equating it to blindly defending Frost's tenure with the football program is reading waaaaaaaaaay to much into a simple post.

Really??? -- similar levels of success???

Hoiberg the last 2 years - 26 total wins (13 big ten wins)
Wake the last 2 years - 43 total wins (23 ACC wins)

hoiberg took over a program coming off back to back winning seasons
Forbes took over a program with 3 consecutive losing seasons

so ... no there is nothing remotely similar in the current situations between Wake's coach who has put up as many winning seasons in his first 3 years as Wake has had in the prior 11 years and what the coach who Trev is endorsing has done in his four miserable seasons

this is the same type of propaganda that was squealed by the Frostzi regime when it was touting all the close losses in year 4

The good news is, any replacement will be better than Fred.

They could have got Dennis Gates, but they never even tried. Gates will not be at Mizzo much longer. That guy is going to get a big offer really soon. He has crazy good connections.

What about making a run at Iowa’s womens coach? Would be a huge upgrade

You seem to be looking for things to debate. I was simply clarifying the intent of my post, which had nothing to do with supporting Hoiberg or NU basketball, just questioning why Sallis would go from Gonzaga to WF - nothing more nothing less.

😂 Tim was 19-17 in his final season, technically a winning season, but not really anything to get excited about. The season before 22-11, on paper it looks good but when you dig deeper you discover it was fools gold. Their non-con schedule was garbage, they beat no one of value. In conference they finished tied for fourth, that didn’t mean much the Big Ten was so worthless that year they only got four teams in the dance. Tim tried to fool the committee by loading up on a soft non-con schedule, it didn’t work and he proved the committee right by getting immediately bounced from the NIT.

Now you can cry all you want about Fred needing to be fired, but let’s not get nostalgic for the Tim Miles years. His records were 15-18, 19-13, 13-18, 16-18, 12-19, and of course the last two seasons mentioned above.

Don’t want Tim back at all. But forget Miles record. We are willfully bringing back the worst Nebraska head coach in the modern era for year 5. He is magnitudes worse than Miles

I would think that at a place like Neb an NCAA tourney appearance + 2 NITs will get you 7 years (still shitty but you can at least stomach it)

Trev is bringing back a guy who hasn’t sniffed any of those things for a 5th year

Mile’s won more big ten games his final 2 years than Fred has in 4 years

The only way you change the narrative IMO is by hiring a good young coach and sticking with him. For whatever reason NU seems to be a tough place to recruit to. I do think Fred has improved his staff. Is that enough? Maybe yes. Maybe no. I think Fred got another year because of how the team played in February despite all the season ending injuries. IMO this is a make or break year for Fred.

Very good post IMO, I agree Fred did improve his staff and even though Fred’s overall record is trash, it doesn’t change the fact that with a new staff this year the record and product on the floor did improve. Now with All that being said I think Fred absolutely had to reach a certain number of wins reach postseason to be retained no matter what the buyout is.

Ahhh yes that historic February run that launched us all the way up to 11th place in the big ten standings only to ride that meteoric rise and lose to one of the worst teams in big ten history when the games started to matter in March.

yep. season ended in January, just like the previous 3 years

6-2 in Feb. we could've won all 8 and still not sniffed the bubble

I forgive the fred apologists. they know not what they support.

Fred kept Matt A. for way too long. I have serious doubts that they will do it, but I am willing to give the new staff one more year to see if they can build off last year. An NIT appearance should be the minimum to keep his job next year IMO.

IMO in the NIL environment no matter who our coach is the only way for NU to win Is for NU to buy a roster. I just don’t think that we have the depth of donors to do that for football and basketball. Our alumni base is pretty paltry compared to some of the other B1G schools. Boosters at successful basketball programs have been buying top players for decades. I just don’t think we have enough donors who care that much about basketball. ☹️

SDSU and Florida Atlantic made the Final Four less than 5 weeks ago.

good coaches win. shit coaches don't. the end.

add this to the already long list of things trev definitely cares about more than overseeing a successful basketball program:

So are you going to cry about it for the next year and a half? You might as well get used to it, Trev isn’t paying that buyout. As @dinglefritz pointed out, they’re probably is not enough boosters that care about basketball to step up. I don’t know how many times I have to post this link, before some of you get it. UNL doesn’t make money hand over first like some of you think, if you click this link you will find out that in the ‘21-‘22 year UNL’s athletics revenue was $143 million and their expenses totaled $131 million.

School athletic revenues

Are you going to use your remaining revenue to fire a coach? Because my guess is the boosters stepped up to pay off Frost and they aren’t going to step up and pay off Fred in the same year.
