I'm not a fan of naming names on the team, like Harper Murray, who is good but is just a freshman. It is hard enough to manage a team, but when you start calling out players by name it can be a bone of contention with fellow teammates.

When football produces with the same level of consistency that Volleyball does, then we can start discussing throwing that kind of money their way. Since you dog on the B1G for sucking all the time, you should at least be consistent and acknowledge that B1G volleyball is the premiere league.
if you say so

Oh... the OP answered my question. My reading comprehension must be trending downward.

"According to On3 Sports, the public gift is the largest donation to a collective solely for Women’s Sports in the history of the NIL era."

I don't doubt it might be the largest for women but I also don't know that all the NIL gifts always get reported to the public.

Frosts best friend is the head of our NIL collective - exploring investment in sports other than football is encouraged

Since college sports have become a microcosm of professional sports, it only makes sense that the best players are the best teams make the most money. NU volleyball has earned it with a long track record of excellence.

That is like saying the Oakland As should invest in their single A team if that team was really good or that the top WNBA players should make the same as the top NBA players

The number of fan bases that care about VB can be counted on one hand

football allows NCAA volleyball to exist

But if our NIL collective wants to steer money to VB that is their prerogative

Hopefully there’s at least that much for football. Very few people give a shit about volleyball. Diverting money there instead of into the football team is absurd.

The collective doesn't steer the money to volleyball. The donors specifically donated to the volleyball program. Rod Yates, is the owner of Nebraska Crossing and his company and JUSTDATA are making the donation.

Also it is a $5 million donation spread out over 10 years, not $5 million annually.

This particular donation to 1890 was specifically earmarked for Volleyball. There are donations to 1890 specifically earmarked for Football or Baskeball as well. This particular donation was made public due to the amount.

Good to know.

That is a sad indicator of how pathetic our football program has gotten over the past two decades. Some donors would rather give millions to a women's sport than to the sport that drives the entire athletic department.

And if there is one athletic program in the entire country that doesn't need NIL, it's Nebraska Women's Volleyball. This is a program that will still get the best recruits without NIL, because nowhere else has fans that care about volleyball even a fraction as much.

I would suspect that majority of NIL money goes toward the football program ..

Just so happens this individual rather give such a large donation towards the Volleyball program..

Majority of us don’t know how this NIL money works in the first place…

This^^^^^. Good for them and well deserved. Individual companies can contribute their $$ anyway they want. Lot's of vb talent in that area....sure it was a calculated donation 👏

Our fans support all our programs. But leave it to Mr. Sunshine to piss and moan about a donation to girls VB. You're such a cuck it's not even funny anymore.

You appear to be expecting people to spend their money the way you want them to.

The collective admin has a lot of interaction with prospective donors prior to the actual donation

Strictly hypothetically speaking of course … I can imagine a scenario where a donor approaches the collective to donate 4 million to football and 1 million to VB and someone from the collective meets the donors and says wow!! That is great!! But if you donated all of it to VB that would be the largest VB donation ever. How awesome would that be!!???

Not at Nebraska. Football, men’s basketball, and volleyball turn a profit.

Being strong in sports outside of football is good for the University overall. One could argue that the volleyball team props up the reputation of University overall because the football team has been mediocre to bad for 20 years. Don’t ask me about those lovable losers on the basketball team.

Do you know this is what happened? I can make up hypotheticals all day long too. Maybe Yates is friends with Cook. Perhaps he is friends with people who have kids on the volleyball team. Perhaps he likes volleyball. Maybe he is in the Scott Shanle lane and hates the Rhule hire. What if he is like Bruce Jenner and is about to become a woman and wants to donate to a woman's sport. Maybe he is talking some of the male basketball players into identifying as women so they can join the volleyball team.

Cool. Neb is the only school (or just a couple) where VB is self sustaining. Will be awesome a decade from now packing the stands watching inter-squad scrimmages b/c no or few other programs exist beyond the club level

There was no pissing and moaning. I gave my honest thoughts, as one does on a public forum. You're such a douche it's not even funny.

I think the booster steered the money to some female athletes who will no doubt do appearances and autograph signings at their facility. The collective is just a middle man.

You appear to be wrong, as usual. Nowhere did I say they anything close to that.
Your entire post was criticizing the fact that the money was given to volleyball. "They don't need it". "The football program sucks". You are insinuating that the dude gave the money to the volleyball program because the football program is currently down. You have no idea why they gave the money to volleyball.

Again bitching about what this dude does with his money.

It’s about what the donor wants in return which happens to be a bunch of attractive female athletes drawing in women and their kids to their mall shops.

Exactly this money was given to 1890 just earmarked for the volleyball team for NIL. And maybe as you say they specifically told 1890 who what amounts they get.
