Dannen has to ration out the $20.5 million revenue share budget out to the sports. How would you spread it out to the 22 sports. All the partial scholarship sports can also give everyone full scholarships, which also cost money, which sports would you give full scholarships to?
Football - 78% - all 105 full Scholarships
M Basketball - 8% - all 15 full Scholarships
Volleyball - 2% - all 18 full Scholarships
Baseball - 2% - all 34 full Scholarships
Softball - 2% - all 25 full Scholarships
Wrestling- 2% - all 30 full Scholarships
W Basketball - 2% - all 15 full Scholarships
That leaves 4% left over that can be used to bring in a star or multiple stars at any sport. I'd make all the scholarship/roster spots full rides for these sports, but that doesn't mean that they have to use every roster spot every year either.
Track & Field - Can have up to 45 scholarships, I'd make the Field ones full rides and the track partials or walk ons
Bowling - All 11 full scholarships, that team has earned it
Gymnastics - 20 for Men and 20 for Women, I'd probably go full Scholarships for all of them, We've got a good program and just offering Full Rides to all could be an competitive advantage
Soccer - 28 for women, probably go full scholarships for all, just to help with Title IX
Cross Country - 17M, 17W, Golf - 9M, 9W, Tennis - 10M, 10W, Rifle - 12, Swimming and Diving - 30W - I wouldn't spend much on any of these sports, no revenue share and I wouldn't fully fund the scholarships either, will probably have to offer the Women's teams some scholarships to remain Title IX compliant
Gets tight really quick, wanted to give baseball more money, but at the expense of who? I like a little flexibility in the budget and if a coach can bring in a stud give them some of that 4% left over. Be very interesting to see how Nebraska and others do it. Spread the money around or try and create a competitive advantage in certain sports with bigger payouts? Going to be an interesting couple of months as these numbers come out. Very interested in how big of an advantage the Big East will get in Basketball not having to pay a football team. We will see who all the ADs prioritize.
