a. the hand the new coaches were dealt talent wise
b.natural process of working things out

d.questionable coaching

b.20
c.5.
d.5

Not sure I really understand the question.

If we are just talking about the BYU loss, I would say:
a.10
b.10
c.80
d.0
Because even though we are thin at a bunch of positions and were sloppy, we had the game won until the fluke hail marry.

If we are talking about anticipated season struggles in general, I'd say:
a. 80
b. 20
c. 0
d. 0

Need a new time keeper
Home field advantage, Never leave 1 sec on
clock, Game over!

Run clock and there is no hail Mary.

I totally agree. There's enough grumbling going on but we did leave over 10 seconds on the clock with just the last two offensive plays. That can't happen again and that's on the staff.

a. 50% - BYU from what I have read, had more top talent on its roster than us. That should never be acceptable. Ever. Bo's recruiting (or lack of) is finally showing its ugly head.
b. 20% - The 2nd quarter seemed to show this.
c. 20%
d. 10% - Coaching/Time Management in the last 2 minutes was underwhelming. But I believe they know this and can make improvements, so I'm not overly concerned about this.

only 10%? I think that is being kind...they basically could have killed another 13 - 25 seconds off the clock.

Could have gone 15-15 on the last 2... Either way, it wouldn't change my outlook. The coaching wasn't ideal in the last 2 minutes, but can and most likely will be improved on in the future. Its also easy for me to remember that coaching by and large got us a lead deep into the 4th. The halftime adjustments by the staff were excellent.

True...but you can always take longer to get the play in...regardless it is an easy fix which is the good news.
Then you risk a delay of game and putting yourself in passing siuations that would definitely stop the clock. Tommy played great, but that part was kinda sloppy

Call for the snap with 3 seconds on the clock and everything will be OK.

What I am saying is if you wait to bring the play in, it brings up the chance by the time it is relayed and everyone is set...boom play clock is ticking delay of game...Ut happens all the time. The coach shouldn't have to hold the play back and then hurry up and rush everything to the line. That is something the qb should already know...be methodical, milk the clock, then snap the ball with 2 or 3 seconds left

Missing 3rd and short 3 times with Imani Cross watching from the sideline to put yourself in the position to lose by a fluke play is on the coaches.

From what you've been reading?

What exactly have you been reading? They had an offensive line with more than 70 combined starts and all returning starters. They had some excellent QB's and a receiving corp that had been playing together for mutliple seasons. That led to a high level of offensive execution in the 1st half

Even with those experience factors, they still needed a hail mary to win a game in which the Huskers missed 2 field goals and finished minus in the turnover battle. Nebraska was also playing game one under a new staff with all new schemes and only 1 returning starter on the offensive line.

THe only reason Nebraska didn't get their arses handed to them was because of more talent.

a. We haven't had the talent to be a top team in quite a long time. We have had the talent to beat the teams we should beat, and we still do. The talent profile of our current players do not all match up with what the new coaching staff wants to do with them.
b. First game. New coaching staff, new schemes, etc.
c. A hail mary is the epitome of a fluke play. The real question is should we have been in a position to lose to a hail mary.
d. A person can always pick out questionable calls/coaching after they fail (oh look, another unblocked blitzing LB off the weak side). I can't imagine this staff or any staff running plays or schemes that do not serve a favorable purpose. It becomes highly questionable if we keep on doing the same things with the same results. This is the first game of the season, not the last game of the season.

So now back to the OP, was lack of talent a reason to lose the BYU game, or a reason we lose future games. No, I don't need to throw our players under the bus to protect the reputation of our coaching staff. Our coaching staff can protect their own reputation by making this team better and winning games we are supposed to. We lost on a hail mary that should have never happened, relying on a passing game that is not considered a strength of our program (at this time).

Agree totally. That's what I've been saying since about 10 seconds after the end of the game. We may not have great talent at all positions but our overall team talent is way higher than most fans think. I still think we can have a really good team this year.

I don't think I'm jumping the gun by saying that the Miami game coming up next week will be our most important game so far. That game will set the tone for the rest of the year. With that said I'm not hanging my hat on whether we win or lose any particular game at this point. I'm looking for improved team play and improved individual player improvement. We've already seen that.

Again I have to say, I think we have a way better quarterback than people realize. He just needed good coaching to unlock the magic. I think we're starting to see that.

If it happens with one play then the coaches better get in his ear with the next call and tell him to run it down to two seconds. Not running that time literally cost us the game.

Maybe among a few players but on the whole would you really prefer the BYU roster to the Nebraska roster? If people get all fussy about our ratings now imagine what the river of tears would be if we were pulling in the same rankings as BYU. Over the last 5 years BYU has not had a class under a 60+ ranking and their star average is probably a star below what Nebraska pulls in. The difference between BYU and Nebraska is that BYU is a stable program.

a. 45: we have talent, except maybe field goals..ouch
b. 45: when the switch flips and armstrong can be a threat running and passing (consistantly) the offense will open up. which intern takes heat off the defense.
c. 5: games are not won on 1 play, we haven't had a killer instinct since dr. tom, as far as putting games away/to sleep/leaveing the opponent in the dust. loads of things could have been done before the final play.
d. 5: Im sure things could have been done a lil differently, hindsight is 20/20..but I almost had a heart attack when riley after the game actually presented what were the problem areas during the game, instead of grunting, and looking pissed off about making millions.

Top to bottom, and depth wise we have a better roster. BYU has better offensive playmakers.

it's "in turn". That phrase isn't talking about unpaid employees.
