One thing we have that a lot of schools don’t have is the tradition and history.Haven't just about all major football programs topped out when it comes to facilities? Perhaps this is pure ignorance, but what more could a coach or athlete want? I feel like all the lavish player amenities really just amount to an attempt to diminish the outcries for players to actually get paid. Having iPads in the lockers and a players lounge is way more affordable than actually paying a cut of the profit.

I know, trolls will come on and point out that it’s ancient history, but Iowa can’t point to the fan base that sells out even after a 0-6 start. They can’t show off a trophy case filled with hardware that our coaches can say needs more... if every thing else is equal in terms of facilities, the intangibles start to kick in. And that’s where we have an edge... especially with Frost as our coach. He knows why he is looking for in recruits.
While I agree to a point, I still think kids want to play where football reigns over all else. Nebraska will always be a place like that. It still requires coaches who will be able to connect with players, and also get the most out of them.Since football is so lucrative and schools will continue to chase the rabbit, it will get even harder to play the "trophy case" card. Nobody really gives a shit anymore. Give me a game room and TV room and study hall and new hair saloon and maybe a strip club while we're at it....chase the rabbit.

If you have a coach who can sell a vision to recruits, the facilities will tip the scale.
Just look at Martinez. Recruited by Frost at UCF, where he wouldn’t go. But when Frost came to Nebraska, Martinez was N.
I've heard people talk about places like Northwestern and Purdue who have upgraded their facilities recently and how are facilities aren't that great anymore by comparison. My question is-are these places that have recently upgraded their facilities really have anything we don't have, or are they just newer? And also-are players really wowed by facilities anymore since just about any worthwhile program has all the same bells and whistles? Are we really losing recruits because our facilities just aren't up to standard? I doubt it. It's always good to be looking to the future and what we can do to upgrade, but spare me the talk about how we are falling behind in the facilities race, because with just about everybody having great facilities now, I think players are looking for more than just being wowed by facilities-the coaching and tradition play a bigger role, and I feel good about where we are in those two areas.
I respectfully disagree. Everyone has caught up, but we certainly haven't dropped. Nebraska, Oregon, Bama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Clemson, etc. all have facilities relatively equal to each other. Some of it is also a matter of taste, I personally don't like some parts of Oregon or Clemson's facilities.I've been youtubing around football facilities. We are absolutely falling behind. We used to have top 10 facilities. Now I don't think we are even in the top 25.
That's my feeling too. Seriously, what bells and whistles do 25 other schools have that we don't? Just because something is all shiny and new doesn't mean it's any better.I respectfully disagree. With that said, Moo's should be planning for the future as that's what all good AD's should be doing.
So according 247, we are ranked 15th in facilities this year. Not as bad as I thought but we were in the top 5, 5 years ago. I trust Moos will do what is necessary when the time comesThat's my feeling too. Seriously, what bells and whistles do 25 other schools have that we don't? Perhaps, but some of those schools have much better "branding" IMO.I respectfully disagree. Everyone has caught up, but we certainly haven't dropped. Did he actually use the word - "natatorium"?
You get to play for Nebraska. Look how far facilities got us in the last 20 years.
We need players that believe in the n on the helmet. Not in the facilities
We Need to build a stand alone football building the Hawks is coming up on 15 years old. Our locker room is around 10 years old as is our weight room. Oregon built a death star. Texas spent 6 million on a locker room. Hell in our conference Moos has us behind 7 or 8 teams. It's time for a face lift.Teams caught up fast it wasn't long ago when ours were considered top five in the nation.
Really doesn’t matter what we think. We are talking about pleasing people with the attention spans of hummingbirds: high school kids...and anything shiny and new is better to most of them.
New article on OWH. I can't link or cut and paste on my phone. But if someone wants to. It sounds like Moos has some ideas in mind for upgrades.
