I would like to see us pressure their qb, and do it early. I heard their o-line is like ours, beat up.
Establish a run game, eat the clock, use armstrong wheels to get the first downs. then burn them with the pass afterwards.
most importantly give 4 quarters of effort. no slacking.

To take Aline from Charlie McBride, "stop the run" and make them pass. I think we have proven we can stop the run and I don't think they have a passing offense that can defeat our secondary. Then, of course, we have to be able to score some points earlier than the fourth quarter.

This will not be the game to be chucking it all over the field getting interceptions and 30 second 3 and outs. Run the ball, run the ball and if ifs less than 3rd and 5 run it again. Keep the clock moving and beat them with an interception return, a punt return, or a field goal as time expires

Run the ball and play action after establishing the run. Let Tommy do his thing with his legs. Their OL was not that good. Iowa got pressure on their QBs without blitzing a single time. Turn the bad throws into pick 6's. Iowa had a couple chances on some awful throws early in the game but were not looking or a step behind.

Make the throw when a receiver is open. Beathard missed a couple game changing throws that he didn't miss last year.

Apparently Wisconsin doesn't commit penalties (zero called against them) so good luck with the officiating.

Have you seen us try to run the ball lately, it isn't pretty.

Nebraska will need to run the ball effectively throughout the game. Can't wait until the 4th quarter to get the ground game going.

Why? What if we happened to move the chains with the throw?
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Damn it, we need to do whatever it takes to move the ball. And right now our offensive line is not getting the job done in the running game. So maybe just maybe we need to chuck it all over the freaking field, distributing the ball to receivers, running backs, tight ends, whoever. We have a mobile QB who is good at eluding the rush. So I like our chances right now in the passing game far more than the run. This stubborn notion that we have to "pound the rock" to win sounds all bad ass and macho, but in reality it is a recipe for multiple three and outs

We will not win this game by running the ball. Our O-line is simply atrocious at run blocking, and Wisconsin's defensive front seven has done well in games against LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, and Iowa. We had trouble running on Purdue until the fourth quarter. If we are successful running, it will be Tommy's legs that get it done. Running up the middle for a yard per rush and punting will be a recipe for a blowout.

Nebraska will need all areas to play well to gain a victory. Running, passing, few penalties, no turnovers, special teams and solid defense. In other words, a full on team effort on all fronts. Now tell them sum bitches to go out there and get it done! That is all.

let's try blocking on punt returns, mid to deep range passing game especially in the middle. teach blocking assignments to ol this week. take ole' block out of the playbook. no turnovers and patience. a few big plays might win this one for us.

I don't want to give up on the run right away, newby is a open field back, so I'd like to bang on them with okzebo and wilson. that will help open up the passes more. if we go right to the pass then we automatically fall into a tommy good day bad day senerio.

We need to run a significant amount of screens to take the pressure off. Early and often.

Don't forever about tray brian if you're gonna list running backs. ;)

him too, it's time the rb's step up to carry their weight. 3.5 per carry average. tommy can get the first down. if it's 3rd and 3.

If people think we are going to have success running the ball early and often against Wisky, then you have been drinking too much wisky. They have a better rushing defense than Nebraska and have played a tougher schedule.

If you think we are going to line up and smashout them after what we have seen the last couple of weeks, then I can't fathom what you have been watching. Lightborn will have a tired leg by the end of the game, because there will be a lot of 3 and outs.

Look at what they did to Ohio State and that will likely be the game plan vs Nebraska. The only one who might have early running success is Armstrong, and I question that based on the health of the OL.

Again. Our best position group continues to be the receivers. Nebraska will have to rely on them to make Wisky pay for loading the box, and hope the run works well in thr end.

If Wisky discovers they can stop our run early, and can do it without loading the box, the Huskers will be in deep $#*&.

The run has not worked early vs Illionis and Purdue at home, so I fail to see why in hell anyone thinks that will work early on the road vs Wisky.

I can already tell what the game thread will be Saturday. Continued bitching about Langsdorf passing the ball. Well, damn right. Nebraska won't win this game if they dont have success through the air.

This ain't the beat up UCLA defense from last December were all about to see.

I agree with this.
For me it's simple...don't panic and give yourself a chance. If langsdorf or tommy panic about not scoring every other possession things could get ugly fast. Take your shots on 2nd and short...work to get to 3rd and 4 or less. Win field position and turnover game. Two first downs and a punt is an ok possession. Of course this is assuming we play good defense which I believe we will.
We need to accept we aren't going to score 35 points unless we all the sudden have a 90s rushing attack and go from there.

thats what Im worried about, if we panic and go one dimensional pass happy, the interception problem may rear it's ugly head. I don't want to see wisconsin get easy picks.

On defense stop the run first. Pressure the Badger's young QB on obvious pass plays. He, Wisconsin's QB, tends to hold the ball too long. He waits for his receivers to get too WIDE open (OT Ohio State) and does not throw to a spot where they will be open. Our O-line is beat-up. We have to roll Tommy out. He can then pass or run. I thought on too many series in the Indiana and Purdue games OC Langsdorf tried making Tommy a pocket passer. He's not one. How many runs between the tackles by the Huskers failed before we got Purdue's defense tired? Use Tommy and our speed guys to hit the edges, quickly. Nothing slow developing. Wisconsin has good linebackers. The middle will open up late if we attack the edges and hit quick passes.

Even out here in the Northwest I have to put up with other Big 10 fans. The neighbor from across the street grew up in Milwaukie, went to Marquette, but loves the Badgers. Wife and I will be hosting the game this Saturday. We beat his grad school, Northwestern, now let's get a win over his childhood team. 21-17 Huskers

Mich Fan observation

I think Nebraska plays their best game of the season...Loads the box and blitzes hornibrook 70-80% of the time...Your offenese hits some deep shots...squeak out a win 17 -14

I've been hearing a lot about how Wisconsin's offense just isn't very good and their quarterback is young and will make a lot of mistakes if you take away their run game. I really, really hope that is the case. Here is why:

This year, Nebraska has gone 7-0 because of a number of factors:

1.) Running the ball pretty well during the first part of the season.
2.) Tommy making better decisions with passes/fewer passing plays called/WAY fewer picks.
3.) A defense that, while not great, has improved dramatically both from last season and as the year has progressed. In fact, I don't see us having a weak unit on our D right now (the line is "average" I would say, better than expected but not phenomenal, and our secondary is actually playing fantastic football right now. The LB's have been solid, but not spectacular, all season).
3.) The opposite juju from last year: things have just gone our way when we needed them to. See: Iowa's 2015 season.

Wisconsin managed to play respectable games against far and away the two best teams in the Big 10 right now, and has beaten everyone else they've played. Chryst is a good coach, and playing in Madison really, really sucks. Plus, Wisconsin has just had our number since we joined the conference. This game is going to be hard. If we can establish an offensive rhythm at all, I think we stand a good shot if what you say is true about their offense. If we struggle like we have the last few games to get anything going until the 4th quarter, that doesn't bode well unless Wisconsin has an atrocious day with their O, too.

Also, is anyone able to pinpoint where their strength lies on D? Are they awesome at stopping the run, or pass protection, or what?

It's going to be a very tough game for us to win. We'll need to win the turnover battle to have a chance. I do like the fight in our team...kind of think if we can hang around until the 4th quarter we'll have the mental edge to give us a chance. Getting Westerkamp back wouldn't hurt...

We can't play like crap early and fall behind by two scores or more. If that happens we will try to force things on offense creating turnovers. This is a game where we MUST play well for four quarters.

For me the key is to remain balanced offensively. I agree that NU won't be able just pound the ball on the ground against Wisconsin, especially with the offensive line woes. But the Huskers also can't give up on the running game, empty the backfield and go to the Tommy Sandlot offense. That hasn't happened much this year, and for that I am very thankful.

I trust that our coaches will put us in the best position to win the game. After that, the players need to execute. Same course all year and we're 7 - 0 with that process.

Good points by most everyone.

Thing that scares me the most from Wiskys offense is the TE Fumagali. I think he is really good and they use him well. Stop him along with the run.

On offense, we have to play in space. We have playmakers on O, but they are better up front. Can our WR's take a slant or screen to the house? Can we get production from the screen game?

On defense we have to stop their run game on first down and make them have to throw on our D in passing situations.

Plus we need to makes plays on special teams. Can this be the game DPE takes one to the house?

Defense will have to win this game for Nebraska. UW has given up 13.3 points per game in regulation. The most was 23 to OSU. Defense needs hold them to field goals when they get in the redzone and hold them to 17 points or less.

I also have a feeling we are going to see a new variation off of the sweep play in this game.

Biggest thing in the pass game is shut down Fumagali. Seems to be their target when they need a big play or 3rd down conversion.

Nebraska is allowing 17.7 points per game. Wisconsin is one of only two teams in college football that has scored less than 20 offensive touchdowns and still has a winning record on the season.

Wiscy's defense is great. But I think Nebraska is going to give them similar fits to Michigan when they try to throw the football. Also keep in mind their offense has been pedestrian all season with the exception of one half vs. Ohio State following a bye.
