how do we beat ohio state?

I have no thoughts on beating OSU but am scared to death of Northwestern. They appeared to awaken in the second half last Saturday after sleep walking through two and a half games. And they play us tough historically.

I'm reserving the right to disagree. Let's just see what happens Saturday night??? In my opinion they played Pelini tough historically.

Tell our players to keep their mouths shut and dont give them bulletin board material. I think they took Oklahomas dumbass backup QB and made a point to teach him a lesson about running his mouth.

Answer: We do not beat Ohio State.

I realize Oklahoma is a little over-rated, but oh my god, Ohio State looked like a freaking NFL team out there. We're not beating them and we should just go into that game thinking, "Let's have some fun and work hard and get better from playing THE best team in America right now." Keep in mind, if Nebraska shows the right amount of grit and determination, we could be going into that game against OSU as an undefeated top 15 team. That's a big deal, and we REALLY do have a team this year, but we're nowhere near OSU's level yet. Ohio State is a team full of athletic freaks, coached by the reanimated corpse of Alan Thicke's dead clone possessed by the infernal soul of Bear Bryant. Or something like that.

I agree too that Wisconsin is our big game. By the way, I don't think they will be ranked by the time we play them; they have to play Michigan State this Saturday (Loss), then Michigan (big Loss), then they are off, then Ohio State (huge Loss), then Iowa (50/50 at that point), THEN us.

If they can even field a team after that, I will be very impressed.

Still, playing in Madison really blows (loud, drunk fans), and Wisconsin is, in my opinion, our real rival in the Big Ten West division; they're consistently better than Iowa, and they really have cleaned our clocks over the years. And their fans know it.

Nobody is beating OSU this year, not even BAMA.

The only way I could see it happening is they have to replace their QB and they have a 5 turnover game.

That is the whole scuttlebutt on RSS...

Before Purdue: 3-6
After Purdue: 6-1
Which wins over Michigan State, UCLA and Oregon.

You should ask Barry Switzer about Nebraska not being able to beat an unbeatable team?

Then what...
We play with a chip on our shoulder and punch them in the mouth. And when they give us that look we punch them in the mouth again!

So strategic and well thought out and cliche. I really hope the coaches think of this.

I'm not afraid of any team (Ohio, NW, or Wisky). We've all already seen our team at the worst (last season). Our current team seems very motivated and focused to continue to change that narrative for the positive.

I can tell you that Beck won't let the Buckeyes sleep on our offense. A majority of our good offensive players he hand recruited. However, our players might be wanting to show him what they can do at our best...and seriously, we'll have no expectations to win in that matchup (and I like our talent on both sides of the ball). We do need to take it one game at a time, but the Ohio St game is going to be fun. They only get to put 11 guys on the field at a time...just like us. Turnovers, injuries, good game planning, and little luck can help keep any team in a game.

GBR

I'm an Ohio State fan and I hope this doesn't happen but here's how you beat OSU. Be better that day. MSU was better that day when they beat OSU last year although I would say most experts would probably say the Buckeyes was the better team.

The Huskers don't have to be a better team this season to beat OSU, just better that day.

To me OSU's DL is still questionable as the DTs are very young and a starter was lost for the season in the first game. It's a pretty athletic DL but it lacks a freak, at least one who's ready to play every down right now. There is a real lack of depth at LB.

To me, we still don't know how OSU would do against a team that can run the ball right at them. A team that could do that could give OSU real trouble. The problem with that plan is that if you're gonna do that, you also can't fall behind.

If you're gonna be putting the ball in the air down field, you'd better be precise. This isn't a deep defensive backfield, but it's very athletic and these guys are housing the ball when the get a pick.

Had Burkehead(sp) not gotten injured the last time these two teams played in Columbus, that would have been a much closer game that Nebraska would have had a chance to win. The Huskers were running the ball on OSU prior to him reinjuring his knee.

Hope you guys win all your games leading up to the game with OSU and everyone after.

Referees are the great equalizers. Game plan around that.... if you know what I mean.

Defense: Sell out to stop the run at all costs. Hope their QB has an off day throwing the ball.

Offense: Pound the rock. Shortens the game, might pay dividends in the fourth quarter, minimizes negative plays and turnovers. Play action to Cethan every once in a while to keep them honest, he is the only Husker with any chance of having a matchup advantage. If TA has to drop back, it is first option, second option, scramble.

We have 5 other teams to worry about before we even think about OSU. This week all the focus is on Northwestern.

There are a couple of things that are really scary about Ohio State. 1) They ran through, around and past OU last week. They made that OU team look slow. 2) They only have 3 return starters on offense and 3 on defense from last year. They are the most inexperienced team in FBS football this year.

By the time we get them they will be pretty well tested with games at OU, Wisky and Penn State. They are good, no two ways about it.

Had to chime in, OSU will lose a game this year. May even be to Bama

I agree with the comments about the defensive line, as guys like Hubbard, Bosa, etc. are still works in progress and none have consistently emerged as a stud (yet). However, you're underselling your team with the comments about depth both regarding linebackers and defensive backs. Backup Sam Jerome Baker just ran back an INT for six this past week and has been making a lot of plays. Joe Burger is a solid guy off the bench. There's talent at the WILL behind him with Justin Hilliard. The defensive backfield is also really deep. Conley went down with that stinger and the Buckeyes went nickel and dime formations even after he was gone, and didn't miss a beat. They are most definitely deep. There's a reason Meyer is saying privately this is his most talented team he's ever coached. They're ridiculously talented at every position.

The only way we can beat OSU is if they beat themselves with turnovers, penalties, and special teams break downs. Otherwise, all I want is for us to be competitive, keep the score respectable, and look like a good team even in a loss.
We can do that by making them earn every score. Minimize big plays, while hitting a few big plays of our own. I disagree that we need to "pound the rock." That is a recipe for three and out. We need a balanced offense that makes good use of every weapon we have.

We get Capt .Kirk and the SC coach from the " Bullies of the Big Ten " to prepare us .

Apparently during Myer's call in show today he said the young defensive line is untested but hanging in there. Not exactly a huge endorsement.

By turning the difficulty setting from heisman to JV.
If only it were that easy. Somebody else said it perfectly lets focus on the games between now and the Columbus trip. I personally think that the Ohio St game will be a dog fight. A lot closer than some will give us credit for. I think Ohio St will take us too lightly, which in college is really really dumb.

On what basis are you assuming they will take Nebraska lightly? It seems the only reason they would take Nebraska lightly is if Nebraska loses several games between now and then.

The same way you beat any other team. Don't turn the ball over, win the battle at the line of scrimmage, avoid costly penalties, and execute your game plan (which should mean running the ball effectively). OSU looked really good against OU, but I think OU's run defense is pretty average at best. OSU knew they could run all over them and did.

We beat them by taking it one day at a time and their (tOSU) day isn't here yet!

OU's run defense average at best? Their run defense was amazing in the other two games they played. Monroe had 29 carries for 78 yards (2.7). Houston had 40 carries for 89 yards (2.2). Oklahoma's defense is built to stop the run and does it well, which is why Ohio State's ability to carve them up at the line of scrimmage was so impressive. OU's run defense is not average. Their secondary, however, is where they're going to have problems all season. They gave up several big plays against Houston and I'm expecting that to continue in the Big 12. Pass defense is definitely not good for them, but their run defense is going to be very tough.
