Holgerson to be named new OC

Because it’s turning into a full Time position this time. No way Dana or another is leaving on Analyst job for another analyst in week 9-10 without something agreed to for the future. .
Let’s hope so. A lot of PR gymnastics just to take the heat off someone you’ll presumably fire anyway. I would argue Rhule is only hurting Satt’s reputation even more by keeping him as OC.

I am a baldy myself, but so glad to see pictures of Dana in a regular hat. For years he used to insist upon wearing a visor. By half time his sweaty, stringy, thin hair looked like Sh*T!!! I keep teasing my ski friends that I am going to buy a blonde mullet wig to wear when I am skiing so I get back my old look of golden locks flowing out the back of my ski helmet.

I'd temper my expectations here, if Dana was that valued as an OC he'd have had an OC job right now instead of a consultant gig at a second tier big 12 program.
Paul Chryst hasn't taken a coordinating gig and he was fired in 2022, you think nobody was in want of his services?

Sometimes dudes want a break before getting back in.

Holgorsen is the perfect guy to get for OC. He likely hates recruiting/NIL and would be totally comfy just focusing on getting the ball in the endzone.

We're all different people.

I lot more optimistic about the last 3 games of the season..

Commend Rhule for getting more help this needed to be done sooner than after the season..
I have been critical, but I agree with this sentiment thus far.

It was obvious to all that the offense needs fixing. We are past the denial stage, or should be. Credit to Rhule for realizing the answer wasn’t in the room, and then getting somebody. Now he needs to enable him.

I hope this isn’t considered THE move for OC, and that this is just more of a well-paying contract job for 3 games. I would like a good long look / search before giving the OC job to someone. Maybe DH is the best option, but if you can find a really good one at years end that you can poach, then do it.

Yeah, that's what we did last time, and it ended up being a buddy hire.

Sometimes the obvious choice is the best choice.

Holgorsen has produced multiple top 10 offenses during his time as OC/HC. I doubt there's anyone attainable out there with a resume that even comes close to sniffing what DH has produced.

I hope I’m wrong, but all those numbers were put up in the “no defense” Big 12. Priority 1 and 2 in this conference if we haven’t learned by now is to first, be able to run the ball, and second be able to stop the run. Put everything into both lines and running game and once that’s established, now you can work on things. If you can figure out how to run the ball with consistent success and stop the run on D, you will be successful in this league to some degree.

It’s also been reporter Phil Snow is in town to talk a look at the D . I think our D has been serviceable but could be better.Rhule said he was bringing people in to take a look and help. The offensive needed more help than the D. I don’t think Dana is doing this just for the hell of it . He was already making $$$ at TCU for the same position. And doesn’t sound like Snow is coming on board he is just to sit down with TW and figure out how to get the same D we saw last year and the first few games this year. I think Dana is staying . As far as Satts reputation it’s already shot .at least at the P4 level.

Our defense has looked pretty bad at times.

Nope, I'd rather borrow the Frost concept of making the Big 10 adapt to us. There's nothing wrong with what he said, he just wasn't able to execute because he never got the right players in place with proper coaching. Indiana is having absolutely no issue with tearing apart Big 10 defenses in both the run and pass game. I would hope that the expectation for our next offensive coordinator is to produce similar results.

Agreed. They have arguably failed in our 3 biggest games. Illinois - Wet the bed. Indiana - Pissed, Puke and Shit the bed, UCLA - Probably just piss with a little bit of poop. I don't include OSU as I think everyone thought we would lose no matter what.

I like that Snow is here to lend a helping hand, and hopefully fill in some of the blind spots Tony may have to become a better coach. TW is a stud, but sometimes studs can use a hand.

With that said... **** Satt.

Our defense could have won us both the ILL and UCLA games had they just been able to get off the field one more time. They have failed in crunch time too many times. Their stats dont look terrible, but knowing how handicapped our offense is, we needed them to pull more of the weight. We are a 10+ win team this year with the same defense, and an average offense. Unfortunately, nope, not how it went.

His teams rate much higher in points per game than in red zone %. Yards per carry a little low.
That's typical of most air raid systems. High PPG, low RZ%, and lowish YPC. It would be crazier if he had great RZ%. I think we should also remove 2007 from our minds. Let's be honest Leach was running that show.

I still don’t see him as anything more than a consultant so I don’t see what all the fuss is about
