Very high on both EJ and Ives. Looks like Ives took full advantage of his opportunity when Dowdell left. New coach, fresh eyes and all that. Ives is going to be a third year guy and if he has the chops to be an actual rotational running back we should see it this season . There’s been a lot of hand ringing as of late about the staff holding pat on running backs. Holgerson said nothing today that would disabuse one of thinking they think they have the running backs they need.

if I recall Ives correctly, he's got good hands.. EJ catches the ball okay too. I'd bet hard cash that DH isn't the type of guy to play a back who can't catch the ball.. what I'm trying to get at, is with DH he treats the RB position like another wideout.. so you have to put that into your calculations. Do we have someone reliable to pound and wear out the opposing defense? I don't think so.. this staff is probably not going to recruit running backs like that. Other than EJ and that Connor kid from Wahoo, I think it's the worst position group on the team, and the RB coach blows.

I think we need a back with some size, a thumper. I think EJ, Ives and maybe Parker can be good players and do a lot of what Holgerson wants. But IMO this RB room needs a closer. Even if EJ, Ives and Parker all pan out and stay healthy the room is still a little thin. (and smallish) Need to add some size to the room.

Hmmm. Consensus on the board between all of the experts was we are in big, big trouble. But I guess since Dana said it now it’s ok.

Holgorsen on our WR Coach

"When asked when Dana Holgorsen knew that new NU receivers coach Daikiel Shorts would have a coaching career: “After I coached him and he ran that 4.7 at Pro Day I go, ‘Yeah, he ain’t going anywhere.’”"

And that was his measurables “last year.” Pretty sure he will be big enough to “pound” the line. Dowdell was 6’ 2” 225ish?
I think he's built more like a wideout than a guy who will punish you running up the middle. He did have some nice returns last year, so he's got some speed, but he has more of a lanky style frame I thought.

Conor Booth has the potential to be a guy who can run up the middle and wear people out. It remains to be seen if his talent translates from high school class C (or whatever it was) to Div 1 college, but I really like how his film looks, the vision, body control, when attacking up the middle, and he looks to have surprising speed.

Parker is a smaller back.. have to see how he turns out I guess.

EJ, in a lot of ways could be posed for a break out year.

I heard that as well. Gotta admit im very curious to see how he looks. We heard Ruhle numerous times mention him so who knows. I guess I take it more to heart when it comes from Dana. If he can replace Dowdell that would be good. Also would be another sign of development from our coaches. Bring Nelson and/or Parker/Booth and RB might just be ok.

He really could have a special year. But with our luck he will likely be banged up and playing through an ankle injury before our first game.

I’ve been pretty low on Ives since he got here. He was a guy we should’ve seen more of last season if he was any good. Almost every carry I’ve seen him take has been unimpressive, mostly in the spring games. I think he’ll probably look better under Holgorsen though.

If Dana can put together more of that Wisconsin game from last year, everyone is going to look good. I expect to see more games like that and for Dylan to take a step forward will help a lot.

Booth more likely will play special teams his freshman year, great athlete.
Been hearing that Parker has gained 20 pounds.
