I've been member now for 17-yrs through 4 coaches. I can't tell you the # of times over all 4 coaches I heard people bitch about the HC "hiring their buddy" &making comments "they should hire the most qualified guy". I think we are seeing a bit w/Diaco that while those comments seem to make sense....it's not that simple in reality.
Been in mgmt now for 20+ yrs....I'll tell you when I hire people, I hire for FIT more so than their skill. My belief is it's critical the leaders (in this case assistant coaches) all need to (pardon PJ Fleck pun) all "row the boat" in the same direction. It appears from the outside / things I've heard that the Diaco hire hasn't been a great fit. Yet 9-mos ago there was universal praise on this same board of his hire because he was a big name and we got rid of 1 of Riley's "buddies".
My hope is when the new coach is hired, he hires the best staff that works well together, whether he knows them (AKA "buddies") or not; not hiring people based upon reputation.
