Heyward!

His glove will be missed but losing him is far from devastating. I find it funny that small bears fans think that they've just signed Trout or Harper...he's a nice player, but not worth stupid money. In that sense, I'm glad StL lost out on him. I hope his contract turns out to be another Soriano-type albatross for the Chicago team.
That "stupid money" you talk about was NOT AS MUCH as the Cardinals offered!!

Cards fans better call this...

You're being slightly disingenuous here, aren't you? Cardinals offered more years with a lower annual pay...big difference than saying "not as much as the Cardinals". Regardless, it's still 'stupid money'. My guess is JH wanted the increased annual pay now because he intends to declare for FA again in 3 years...get as much as you can as soon as you can. Good luck to him...love seeing him spend the Rickett's money.

As do I...just another piece to the puzzle. As it stands right now...the Cards lineup looks like a joke compared to what the Cubbies will trout out.

Keep thinking that. StL won 100 games w/o Wainwright, Holliday and Adams last year...no reason why they won't w/o Lackey and JH. They will also now get full seasons out of Holliday (hopefully), Grichuk and Piscotty, which means maybe 60+ more HRs and far more production from the OF...so no, they won't miss JH's 13HRS/60 RBIs. Granted, whoever the small bears "trout" out they will clearly be the favorites and deservingly so...now, let's see if they can handle the pressure. Oh, and BTW...adding Lackey doesn't by any means address all the issues with the Chicago teams pitching staff (Arrietta notwithstanding, of course).

The Cubs led MLB in SP WAR last year. They currently have 4 of the top 27 in SP WAR from last year. Somehow, I think we'll be okay.

Yawn...Lester, Hamels, Hendricks, Haren. Don't even go there....you'll lose credibility.

As a Cubs fan since 1984 I fully expect a 78-84 year with multiple injuries and Arrieta having TJ surgery ....I dont see how any Cub fan can be anything but cautiously optimistic at best given the history of the club...that being said I will definitely be at Opening Night in Anaheim ....STL will be just fine with their Cardinal voodoo and whatnot

Very funny...except the TJ surgery...don't wish that on anyone, especially a guy with that much talent. A recurring blister on his pitching hand...now that's a different story.

Keep telling yourself that. I bet your one of those guys who suddenly "never wanted him anyway" whenever a recruit decommits too.

His offensive numbers are average. He just had his best average year by far. That will slip back to his norm. He is nowhere near worth that kind of money. A .265-.270 average with 12 home runs and 69 rbi per year is pedestrian.

he's actually been really consistent the last four years. His wOBA, generally thought to be one of, if not the best, offensive metric the last four years are .351, .344, .329, and .346. His wRC+ (100 is MLB avg) are 121, 120, 110, and 121. He's an above avg, but not great, offensive player. The Cubs think they can get more power out of him. Wrigley may help in that regard. His base running and defense combined with above avg offense make him an extremely valuable player.

I will say I'm excited to see what Joe Maddon can do with him. I think that's an X factor that many overlook and I'm not even a fan of Heyward

Nice. Now dance around .264 with runners in scoring position and .245 with RISP and two out. No wonder he had only 60 RBIs. Great defender...pedestrian hitter. Good luck with that contract for a very average offensive player in a park that puts a premium on offensive production.

oh, you believe in clutch? haha, ok then. But just for my own amusement, I looked it up. During his career, he has a 116 wRC+ in Low Leverage, a 123 in Medium Leverage, and a 103 in High Leverage. Keep grasping at those straws.

LOL. Can you find a meaningless metric that says the Cubs have won the World Series since 1908? Haha...didn't think so.

Sounds like a concession to me. I'll be happy to wager on cubs vs cards any time. Let me know
