One thing is factual no matter who was going to coach this team: they were going to be, and are, paper thin at several spots. I had close friends on the last staff and felt badly for them. I also like this staff. But, the plain truth is that if someone goes down at a few spots (and they have), NU is in trouble. And, in some spots, it will mean the season. If TA goes down, look out!
It doesn't matter to me what you think the reason is (I think it's undeniable that it falls to neglect in recruiting), but neither Bo nor Mike can make DEs, TEs, LBs, or QBs appear out of thin air. That put this season in a precarious spot regardless of who was running the show.
My only point is this; at some positions, NU is one hit away from trouble no matter who is coaching. That simply does not fall on Riley, love him or hate him. Losing a guy, like at DE, makes a real difference in what they can or can't do.
Aside from that, I need to see more football to know about coaching. I know if the game had ended one play earlier, I would have said, "Nice adjustments, good fight, I have definite concerns, but good comeback".
