I am usually one of the first people to tell others to shut up when it comes to perceived media bias...But this guy, what's his beef with Nebraska? Normally I find Kirk to be pretty even handed, almost goes out of his way not to be to controversial on anything. His take on Mike & Mike this morning on how MSU got screwed last Saturday was to much. I find it impossible to believe he doesn't know the rule by now, yet there he was, expounding on how screwed MSU got. Dork.

He's been like that for a long time. I remember him being super upset that Nebraska fans "stuffed the ballot" on a team of the century tournament several years ago. Not sure if that is were it started, but he has been pretty blatant about it ever since.

He still has his Jimmies Rustled over Nebraska teams being called the some of the best of all time. See 95 and 71. Personally, I find him to be an arrogant, aloof know it all. For a guy that played the game, it`s embarrassing he doesn`t know the rule.

The networks WANT their guys to stir up controversy. That is why you almost always see opposite posistions on First Take, Mike and Mike, etc. Arguments and controversy equal ratings.

People that don't like Nebraska are in a straight up panic right now over Riley. They know if he gets his foot in the door look out. Riley is like that NASCAR driver on a crappy team. He can't win cause his car is always letting him down so he has to press. But the owner and crew chief of a top team sees this guys talent that no one else can. He gets picked up and the rest is history. I honestly believe that why the media has been so hostile over the Michigan State game. And this game got his foot in the door cause our program will supply him with a top notch car to win! And they would prefer that we just go away.

Remember watching that. Complete baby. Was flat out licking the taint of Miami for having so many first round picks.(many of which were complete busts)
Believe they somewhat addressed it on a Gameday when they came to Lincoln after that. Just brushed it off and was as RRT said aloof and arrogant about the whole deal.
Like David Pollack a pretty boy that doesnt know nearly as much about the game as he thinks he does. May be well versed in their own school and conference but overall sucks.
As an aside Jesse Palmer may be a pretty boy but I like listening to him.

I highly doubt people who hate Neb are shaking in their shoes because they perceive Neb is on the verge of greatness under Riley.
Much more people who love Neb are in a panic about the program under Riley at this time

Rover, when you aren't in front of somebody it's hard to tell if the joke that are trying to relay on a MB is meant with ill intent. This is not.

This is how I perceive what you look like when it comes to Husker football.

what I could not believe is that actually during the game ESPN took the air time ( complete with charts) to tell the nation why it is so hard to recruit to NU - They even had the average miles distance of our recruits - it was disgusting and the gist was that our fans should be happy with winning seasons and have no chance of joining the CFB elite again

Perhaps the uneducated and idiotic are, I suppose. It was nice to not get blown out by a good team for the first time in years.

I'm used to feeling like the media punching bag. Is it because of old jealousies, a small market or an Ohio mafia? IDK, but I"m sick of it.

Herbie lost his sh*t when ESPN did that bracket playoff of historic great teams and the 95' Huskers and 71' Huskers ran the table.
His bullsh*t comment about 95' Nebraska playing a weak schedule that year is the biggest joke of all. WTF was he smoking to come away with that thought?! Nebraska demolished 4 teams that finished in the top 10.

For those that forgot or haven't seen it:

while i believe he believes what he says he believes i also believe that maybe they're looking for social media attention or whatnot...Nebraska fans get pretty riled up by the national types and does that translate into activity on twitter or whatever...just a thought.

My take on it. I think it could have easily been called either way. My point is that HCMR and OCDL should not have their wide outs that close to sideline. Why take a chance? What if it was really a big game that mattered? By having the receivers that close to the sideline, you lessen the chance of a completion anyway even without a penalty.

It would be difficult for me to disagree more. Use the entire field, that's what it's there for.

You have to spread the field and cant give away the route. It's up to the receiver to stay inbounds.

As an analyst you're probably NOT doing your job if you don't tick off most fan bases at some point. Kirk is one of the best in the business. Yet I've heard MSU fans, UM fans, Neb fans, OSU fans all say he was biased against them at some point. Some even said he was anti-BIG a few seasons ago. Kirk said tOSU crazies got so bad a few years ago that he moved his family from their home in Columbus to Tennessee. (Some Spartans accuse him of waxing poetic for return of the Bo vs Woody rivalry...BIG 2/Little 8).

As far as the call from Saturday Kirk's not alone. Most analyst have said it was a bad call. Gary Danielson said it was the worst call this year in the BIG. I know you guys don't like to hear that but that is the general narrative.

Now I will say this...Kirk is a Dantonio fan (and probably has a good relationship with him). Coach D was the DC for years at OSU including their national championship team under Tressel. He even occasionally calls Dantonio by his nickname "Dino" doing some of the broadcast. So yes he probably does give MSU the benefit of the doubt at times.

Yes. Stack it inside closer to the safeties. Makes perfect sense

With wide outs so wide, the passing tree is limited by more than half. I have always liked a "sweet spot" where a receiver can run a streak, a post or a flag. They can't run a flag that close to the sidelines.

This call does NOT go in our favor if not in Lincoln.

It was a judgement call, not so much "the rule." The B1G officials said as much. I don't recall where they said the call was correct or according to the rule - they said the mechanics of the call and subsequent replay were correct. It comes down to interpretation by the official and everyone else in the free world. Why do people let stuff like this bother them so much - that play may go against us some day, they didn't put one second on the clock which apparently is still a thorn in everyone's flesh after all of these years (and the correct call), and now the announcers and their intentions and motives are questioned. It doesn't matter really does it? That is his job to bring that stuff up and question it. I don't get the entire dislike.

What route tree? We HAD to get into the end zone there. They knew exactly what route they wanted, and against a 3rd string defender. It is pretty damn simple. Your perception of the call being wrong has absolutely no bearing on the play call.

Umm, what? Have you paid much attention this season, or the last few years, or heck even the rest of this game? We do not get favorable calls in Lincoln, if anything officiating usually seems to be worse.

He's lined up on the numbers, pretty typical. Def not too far outside to release either way or set up a route either way.

Exactly! My driver Kevin Harvick couldn't sniff the top 10 till he joined SHR and driving Hendrick motors. Now it's rare he is outside the top ten.

It is a judgement call ... I think most people nationally think the wrong judgement was made in this instance -- maybe 60/40 - 70/30

it is understandable how the call could have been made just as some pass interference calls are highly subjective

It baffles me how people can so vehemently defend the call when had Nebraska been in MSUs position they know full well they would be going apeshit

it was a judgement call and fortunately we came up on the favorable end

The route tree that needs to be in the offense from day one. Then maybe we don't have close games where play even matters. Then maybe we increase our chances of getting to a bowl game. How about the real possibility that officials are going to watch this more carefully from now on. Maybe in the future, they will have not blown a previous call so they have to give us a makeup call.

Jesus dude. Get a grip. Are you trying to say this offense doesn't have a solid route tree? Seriously? You have absolutely no clue the difference in route running we have seen in one single year.
