Dear Fellow Husker and Big Red Supporter,

As you may have noticed over the past 2 weeks our men's basketball program has fallen on tough times. As with any sport associated with Husker Nation we strive for national prominence and will not settle for mediocrity, like those hosers from Iowa.

With that said I am asking for your help to develop a short list, say 20-30, potential coaching candidates for the next time the basketball head coach position becomes available at the University of Nebraska, when ever that may be. I do ask that when submitting a candidates name that you provide a solid background profile on the candidate as well as a possibility percentage of securing this candidate for the position.

We have done this in the past with the women's rifle team coach as well as the women't bowling team coach and have had great success.

Thank you in advance!

Yours affectionately

Shawn Eichorst

I'll start with 10 guys I would put feelers out to. Some realistic, some stretches and some you all will poo poo. So in advance.....suck it. Ha ha ha

In no particular order

James Whitford (45 yrs old) Ball St - started in 2013-2014 season with 5-25 improved every year, made post season in year 3, this year 20-11 was an assistant for Sean Miller at Xavier and Arizona.

Leon Rice (53) Boise St - wins at 62% in the MWC. Longtime Gonzaga assistant, and asst at Oregon

Cuonzo Martin (45) Cal - played at Purdue, from St Louis area, won at Missouri St, took Tennessee to sweet 16, took Cal to NCAA last year and probably this year. Also assistant at Purdue.

Earl Grant (40) College of Charleston - former Gregg Marshall assistant at Winthrop and Wichita St, also assistant at Clemson immediately before CoC. Improved team from 9-24 first year to 25-9 this year.

Kelvin Sampson - (61) Houston. We all know his issues and successes. Probably too old but would be interesting and has a name that could bring in talent.

Eric Musselman - (52) Nevada - former NBA head coach and is 49-20 in 2 years at Nevada. Also plenty of years as NBA assistant and spent time as P5 assistant at Arizona St and LSU.

Paul Weir - New Mexico St - 1st season at NMSU and went 25-5. Spent time at Iowa under Steve Alford.

The next list is a few Big East coaches where I think Nebraska would be able to pay more than their current school.

Kevin Willard (41) - Seton Hall - Petino asst at Louisville.
Wojo (40) Marquette - coach K asst at Duke
Chris Mack (47) - Xavier - Wake Forest asst

Mack is at his alma mater so that would be a tough pull.

Just some names that fit my prerequisite P5 assistant coaching experience, before getting 1st HC gig.

Tuco, curious as to your thoughts on Mark Gottfried or Joe Dooley?

Gottfried is a good coach. If he was hired I wouldn't dismiss it as a bad hire. He has had good success but he seems to lose teams late in his tenure. They sort of peak in year 4 or 5 then start to decline

Joe Dooley would be ok too. I like that he went back to being an assistant after not having great success at E. Carolina.

Keatts from UNC-Wilmington also would be a good option. Same league as Earl Grant.

Norman Dale. Took a small Indiana High School team (Hickory), all the way to the State Championship. He didn't have his MVP Jimmy Chitwood half the year, and his asst coach, Shooter Flatch had a drunken meltdown and left the team.

Despite all this, that team won a title. Bring Norman to Lincoln!

1-10 Dana Altman, odds of getting him <5%. IMO Eichorst should be backing up a money truck into Dana Altman's driveway as we speak. Pay him 4 to 5 million a year (he makes 2 now). If he cant win here shut down the program.

I'd be OK with any of the guys on this list: https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/bossi-s-best-hot-coaching-candidates

For those who don't want to click the link:

Kermit Davis, MTSU
Joe Dooley, FGCU
Steve Forbes, ETSU
Kevin Keatts, UNCW
Pat Kelsey, Winthrop
Eric Musselman, Nevada
King Rice, Monmouth
Will Wade, VCU

Musselman and Rice would probably be my favorites, both would play a fun style. Dooley is intriguing. I don't think Keatts or Wade would come here.

I'll pass on Gottfried, like Miles he's a good recruiter but mediocre in-game coach.
