Greg McMullen to Parrella

Great to hear. Been all kinds of platitudes about how great John is going to be, but very little reporting on where he was or what he was doing. I'm glad to hear he's on campus and building the relationships. It'll be exciting to see what gold nuggets come out on the recruiting trail if he gets out there soon.

John has that vibe about him that I got last year with Trent. Loved the video of Trent teaching the linebackers while at OSU. Turned out to be a great hire and I'm sure John has all that in him as well. GBR

Riley overheard Greg McMullen telling Parrella, "I’ve played end, I’ve played tackle, I’ll play wherever you want me to play. 'Kind of neat.' "

Great vibe to start the weekend!

Awesome to hear from McMullen. I'd like to think that Riley and staff aren't just going to hire ties to Nebraska or just go with the Nebraska Way because way too often that is what settles down and appeases too many fans. I'd like to think that this guy is truly the best available in our staff's eyes. I'm going with that premise until proven otherwise.

John P is going to have to prove to me he can go head to head with the top programs to earn my belief. Securing top DL talent within and around Nebraska borders is a must, but we have to also recruit better than Wisc and Iowa on the DL in my book if we want to be truly relevant again. and it's a must for 2017 that we get more DOMINANT DL players who typically don't grow around here.

I want to see us get more players turning down better schools than those 2 schools, even if those schools may have had a proven better 3-5 years than we've had since joining Big 10. Let's not settle ....let's not JUST rely on local/regional talent PLEASE.. can JP recruit close and recruit some more away from this area? Only time will tell and while I'm optimistic. it's with a lot of skepticism too.

I think tremendous teaching and development is a must for Riley when he hires and I think JP can do that. What I have concerns about is the same thing I have concerns about with the rest of the staff and that is getting more elite talent to come here. We all know that there are typically only 50 top DL players if that and all the BIGS meaning top programs all know who they are and are all after them. We have to find a way to get 1-2 of at least the top 100 every other year at worst

I have been critical of Riley over the 6-7 season and for a solid but not outstanding recruiting year. But the firing of Highes and the hiring of Parella is to me a HUGE sign of hope for the future. It indicates that Riley is serious about winning and about reconnecting to Husker tradition. We have the tools, barring major injuries, to go 11-1 or 10-2 next year. I think this staff is growing and learning before our eyes about how to coach in the B1G and what it means to coach at Nebraska. I can't wait for the new season.

For some reason, I forget about Maurice. He had some really nice flashes last year. Freedom, GMac, KM and Ross as the 1's next year. That's a solid front four.

I expect Neal to pass Ross at DE and don't be surprised if there's at least one Davis in the starting front 4. We should be ok with our 2 deep if we can stay healthy.

Sounded like DE Davis eas progressing pretty well last year. Maybe McMullen can stay home at DT, he is 6'5 300 pounds and Davis, Freedom and some of the other young Ends can take hold.

I bet McMullen makes a big jump next year. I LOVE the hire, his NFL career will command instant respect from his players and his passion for the school is sorely needed on the staff. The current staff saw/sees Nebraska as a great opportunity at a traditional power. Parrella sees Nebraska as an honor and duty, much like our soldiers feel in defending our country.

Yep, this staff started off sending a note to all past lettermen advising them they are welcome back any time. They then followed up on that by welcoming past coaches to practice and asking their advice about the Nebraska way. That led to reinstating the Blackshirt tradition. They used social media to inform Husker Nation about recruiting efforts while putting together their first class. They set aside a special place on the sideline for former players at the Spring Game. They continued to emphasize player-community volunteering. Riley started pumping Janovich to his pro football contacts in the fall. You never see any of the staff not clothed in red, white or black Nebraska gear except for when they wear suits. On top of all the hours and hours these guys spend coaching, recruiting and running camps (several in other states), they find time to share information with the press. They can also be seen at many other Nebraska sporting events. Nope, no passion there....

WELL DONE SIR !!! Yet a troll could read it, and in their resumeless world; set out some Shangri-La script for Xbox type success.

FHCBP had to have a PR firm design phony PR stuff for him to try to counteract some of his ridiculous behavior. I love the way the current staff are representing my university and hope that all of the changes continue to show up on the field like they did the last 4 or 5 games of the year last season.
