some take aways
best time to throw the ball is 1st and 10 - goes against conventional thinking - a lot of coaches run the ball in this situation instead
best time to run the ball is 2nd a short - this is also a great time to use hurry up no huddle (71% of time gain a first down)
highest turnovers occur on 2nd and short when teams try to pass - also passing on 2nd and short only converts to first down 52% of time
best predictor of win/loss is how well you do on early downs - along with turnovers - performance on 1st and 2nd down is crucial
biggest take away is you need to do a good job on 1st and 10 - i.e. at least 5 yards .. this is where the check down will be huge -
(*This may be what hinders Wilbon.. he drops a lot of easy passes - the starting running back will have great hands - my take not theirs*)
to be successful on defense its the opposite obviously - win the early down
sacks rates are huge, generally if sacks numbers are high then qb hurries are also going to be high, further, success passing is 4 times more correlated to winning than rushing (whatever that means) - which is why disrupting the passer is huge on defense
thats all i can remember
