I know nothing of this kid so I have no idea if this is a loss or not.

And I agree that the 500 mile thing is overrated. If you can get quality guys from 1500 miles away then do it.
But I don't think the 500 mile thing is bullshit. Those within that radius are close enough for family and friends to drive to most home games, or fly easily and cheaply. It also indicates that there might be a cultural comfort zone. Not as much of a shock for an Iowa kid to come to Lincoln as a Miami kid. Ditto with the weather.

Well said sir. I too think all other things being equal gives a very real benefit of a natural mid-west cultural comfort zone "and" a reasonable expense and time to drive to Lincoln to see their son play if they live within 500 miles.

I hardly think that's bullshit.
