Grandad at QB

I'm not allowed to watch practice's as is anyone on this board. Who knows if Holgorsen will have Haarberg run some of the offense to be an emergency QB if we are decimated by injuries in the QB room.

It's logical to have a player who has played QB at Nebraska knows the offense and has won games be used if the worst case scenario were to happen. I have no idea what Holgorsen has in mind for that third string QB on the depth chart but I have a pretty good idea what he might do in a pinch.

It only makes sense to have a player who can play the position in a pinch without looking like a deer in the headlights, Haarberg wouldn't blink twice he's been through the BIG wars already.

I realize we have those that don't care for Haarberg and that's their opinion they are entitled to it but it's just an opinion I don't agree with because Haarberg is a very good athlete and a very good teammate and he's a winner in my book.

Clearly Haarberg is a great guy to have on the roster, especially on the travel roster. Maybe that is considered when they're making the decision on how many QBs they carry. Maybe not. It would be crazy to head in to fall with less than 4 QBs on the roster though.

I'm not saying we don't need 4 QB's starting this fall, my feeling is you have two QB's that know the playbook and you have a one QB that hasn't played football since his play at Iowa Western Community College in 2022 and two freshman who don't know the offense.

Now who would you want playing QB if Raiola and Gramstad were to go down, I'll go with a player who has played games for the Huskers and even won some games. Of course if one of these freshmen learns quickly and show he can manage the offense as the season progresses then everything discussed is a moot point.

We'll find out how this whole thing plays out as fall camp and the games start but I doubt you'll see Haarberg's name as third string on the depth chart at QB but to me he will be, he just won't be listed as such on the chart. If I'm way off on this I'll admit it because that would tell me a third QB has gained enough trust from the coaches to play meaningful snaps. Lets all hope our team remains healthy and we play enough games that give the young ones some playing experience. jmo

I stated several times last fall that I believe we could have won just as many games last year with Haarberg at QB as we did with Raiola. Freshman QBs almost always cost you a couple of games.

This is what I like about this forum. We can share opinions. Dingle, always look forward to your takes on Nebraska football. I look forward to sharing a bottle of Blanton's with you sometime before a Husker game even though I still prefer Knob Creek 15 :)

I don't spend a lot of time on the Husker board and did not renew my subscription with Rivals so I didn't see your posts about Haarberg, sorry. I agree Haarberg could very well have won some of those games and it was nice he was still involved as a QB in the redzone last year. Haarberg is like a life preserver you never want to use it but it's nice to know it's there.

Just to clarify my position on Haarberg as an emergency QB:

Heinrich Haarberg played in 12 games in 2024. He was Nebraska's No. 2 quarterback for all 12 regular-season games before making a position switch and starting at tight end in the Pinstripe Bowl. Haarberg was efficient as Nebraska's No. 2 quarterback while also figuring into the offense as a runner and receiver. He completed 10-of-18 passes for 101 yards, rushed 25 times for 102 yards and caught two passes for 16 yards.

Haarberg played extensively in the second half against UTEP, completing 5-of-5 passes for 35 yards and rushing two times for eight yards. He led an 80-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter against Northern Iowa, finishing the game 3-of-3 passing for 34 yards with three carries for seven yards and an eight-yard reception. At Purdue, Haarberg had two carries for 18 yards from his quarterback position on Nebraska's final drive. Haarberg was Nebraska's leading rusher at Indiana with 32 yards on five carries. He completed 2-of-7 passes for 32 yards and rushed four times for eight yards while replacing the injured Dylan Raiola in the fourth quarter against UCLA. Haarberg had two carries for 15 yards at USC. He carried six times for 18 yards against Wisconsin with a five-yard touchdown run that opened the scoring.

Not great QB numbers but serviceable in an emergency.

Haarberg started at tight end against Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl and had an eight-yard reception.

I like Woodford Reserve double oaked as well as Blantons which is good because the Blantons has gotten harder to get right now. Opened my last bottle. Knob Creek is fine. I guess my bourbon palate isn’t as picky as my wine and tonic tastes. I can’t drink cheap wine or designer herbal tonics with my gin. Bourbon for me is all about who I’m drinking it with.

If I had only one bourbon to drink it would probably be Weller 12. As for wine, I usually drink what my wife is having, she has a much more decerning palate than I do.....at least that is what she tells me :) You are exactly right that drinking is all about who it is with as I gravitate towards people that don't take themselves to seriously, are capable of having fun and they don't always act like they are the smartest person in the room. Here's to never drinking alone......unless you want to:)
