Good time to buy? Stock market

At some point the panic selling over the tariffs will subside and the market will resume it's upward march BUT the baby boom is virtually all retired now. Their retirement investments helped fund the crazy levels we're at and now they're liquidating assets. I know value investing isn't sexy, but buying solid stocks who make stuff that consumers have to have while paying dividends has always been a good strategy.
A pretty good percentage of the selling is not panic selling. The tariff "stuff" far exceeds anything analysts predicted. The President himself said "there will be a little disturbance. We're OK with that. It won't be much." He was obviously way wrong on that since the market has dropped almost $10 trillion in the last three months. What I fear is foreign investors leaving and not coming back. There's a lot of unpredictability right now.
I'm not sure where this thing bottoms, but be ready for turn around Tuesday. Steep downturns in markets often last 3 days, followed by a bounce or leveling off. The market was overvalued. This is a needed correction being used for political purposes which is making it worse. Once values reach a more reasonable level, things will stabilize.
And that's why I lament the fact that I am overvalued in tech (and have been since 2020). I've had a let your winners run mentality that has served me well even through 2022. This time looks a lot different to me.

Rand Paul is also in favor of budget busting tax cuts for rich people. So no, I don’t really think he gives a shit about the deficit in the debt.
Ron Paul was always said income taxes were unconstitutional so I'm not surprised Rand feels that way. But the money has to be brought in somehow.

Rand is putting on his libertarian hat on when it comes to trade. But Ron (mostly Ron) and Rand have embraced some issues that can charitably be called heterodox. Others might call it belief in crank theories.

Seems to me that Doge is only hitting politically favorable targets from one particular point of view. If they were serious about solving a problem, they would look at balancing the budget and reducing the national debt. And who in the hell that is in debt only attacks their debt by reducing spending? Politicians! That's who. Dave Ramsey says, you need a bigger shovel to dig yourself out of debt- that means increasing income. Still waiting for an actual leader, not a politician, to make that happen.
Huh? Basically they’re trying to audit the entire government and trying to set up accounting controls that EVERY business in the US is supposed to have. IF I ran my business the way our government runs theirs, I would be in jail. Sure they make a big deal out of blatant graft that they find but make no mistake, there’s lots of Republicans (Mitch in particular) who aren’t happy with the audit.

Anybody who was paying attention over the past few months has moved heavily to safe havens. You assumed a lot of risk now you’re seeing the downside of that. We pretty much stood pat in our retirement accounts with a 2 year time horizon because we’re about 50% in income producing real estate. I’ve seen this multiple times over the past 40 years and things always work out. Allowing our trade to continue down the path it was on was horrible for our country.

is a national debt of in the trillions thought to be a good idea by economists? Just announcing the tariffs has brought down the cost of financing our national debt. We almost had to do this. It's the dirty little secret neither side is talking about. This will have long term benefits no matter who our next President is. People who nervously watch the stock market on a daily basis are foolish.
Well the senate just passed the tax cuts at 230am today which will increase the deficit, so I dont see that any of this plan is helpful.
Raising tariffs does bring in revenue as it is a US tax on importers, which can decrease the deficit, but who pays for it in the end? When we go to Walmart and get strawberries from Mexico, roses for our wives from Columbia, or phone chargers from china who’s going to pay the increased costs of those items?

Tax cuts coupled with CONTROLLING spending will not increase deficits. Mexico isn’t subject to tariffs on strawberries. Columbia won’t be either when it’s all said and done. You’re just upset because your favorite LGBQT NGO just got exposed.

I'm not in a party. I'm hoping Trump means well because so far he's taking good actions for OUR country.

I don't care about the cost of phones. Be nice to go back to the days when people weren't glued to them. I do however care about human rights and what they do over there is beyond inhumane.
You would have to search long and hard to find an economist of any repute that think that these blanket tariffs are a good idea. They can offset the costs of the tax cuts which are through the senate as of this am.
We need to ask ourselves who benefits? And who pays?

Our country benefits. Time for balanced trade rather than our government sell us to other countries because they’re addicted to kickbacks they’re getting. China has raped our country and probably owns 95% of politicians. They’ve also brainwashed the useful idiot class into hating their country and thinking the government is the answer to everything . Like the dipshit who thinks income taxes are necessary

Sweetheart deals for people like Mitch, Nancy and Hakeem have cost the US taxpayers billions of dollars. The criminal untrackable dispensing of funds to NGOs has likely cost us trillions. It’s time for a complete audit and reckoning. This bill is just a start. Schumer etal are in favor of continuing the march to insolvency. Why? Soros purposely bankrupted Greece. He’s well on his way to doing the same to us.

Firing random folks in the government doesn’t save much money, it just makes government even less efficient. Say at collecting taxes when you fire IRS emoloyees. And the whole deal seems to be aimed to justify tax cuts that don’t benefit you and me while raising tariffs which you and I will pay for.

I’m happy for you that you make so much money that the tax cuts they just extended will offset the increased price you will have to pay for goods, and the loss in your retirement plan you are suffering.

Whatever you think. It’s not just “firing random people”. Up in Yankton SD the NPS was leasing a building for well over 150,000 per year for multiple people to sit on their ass for most of the year. The Missouri was designated as National Scenic River which bans jet ski traffic. I could have built that building for what they pay in rent per year. All those clowns do is shuffle papers, take summer boat rides and write tickets for riding a jet ski between GPDam and Sioux City.

How much did the inflation caused by your buddy’s cash giveaways cost low income citizens?

If by “my buddy” you mean Biden I thought then, and think now, that those things were dumb, and inflationary, and said so at the time. It cost his party the election.

This non selective Navarro tariff deal is dumb. Do you have the courage to admit that?

You morons realize the stock market was just at record levels. 43k. It’s going to be okay. The stock market is bloated trash and not indicative of the economy. We added a tremendous amount of real jobs. Quit filling your head with the nonsense foreign infiltrated news

I'm a farmer. I'm a hundred percent behind making China play fair. They've manipulated the grain markets to their advantage for decades and now control a good chunk if not most of our meat packing industry. I can't buy a part for my tractors that doesn't say made in China on it. I've harped on this for years. Our national security demands that we bring enough manufacturing back to this country in case of a major conflict with China.

ADD: About 15 years ago China planted a rumor about cancellations of grain contracts that caused a dramatic change in the corn market. It cost me over $40,000 in a week. They've had basically unfettered access to our markets including purchase of meat processing and ag land while throwing up road blocks at every turn to us. The ridiculous wind tower and electric vehicle tax credits have made them billions of dollars on the backs of the American tax payers. Thank God somebody is willing to take the political hit to defend our national security and sovereignty
Farmers are 100% behind making China play fair because they are first in line for government handouts if things go wrong like last time. You aren't exactly going out on a limb with a statement like that.

I would be behind a lot of stuff too, if I could just go into my local usda office, fill out some paperwork, and patiently wait for congress to cut me a check.

This has nothing to do with the other.
I don’t give a Fvck what you and your wife spend your money on, but I do when it comes to to the Government and so should YOU.
You're ok with spending money we don't have as long as it's what you like. Lol Sounds about right.

All 3 were stupid. The amount spent on the first one was the largest and substantially larger than the 3rd. First 2 were double the amount spent of the last one. Guess who happily gave away the first 2? Yep, you guessed it. Amazing watching people justify the first 2, while disparaging the last.

There has been talk of reducing spending. I'll believe it when I see it. They just passed a CR with a complete "conservative" majority that set spending at the same level as the last administration, having a liberal president and senate. They are also raising the debt ceiling. None of that screams spending or deficit reduction to me.

We haven't even made it into hurricane season. You know we're going to be printing a bunch of money for those. Throw in the expected farmer tariff payments and we could be above FY24 spending.

With all due respect, all consumers of goods pay for tariffs. Do you think the importers don’t pass the taxes/tariffs they pay onto us?
Well, they’re doing a great job of un bloating the stock market.

By the way, I don’t give it D – – N about LGBTQ issues other than they should be left alone and treated fairly.
And I think AOC and Bernie Sanders are nuts – if there was no incentive to work harder in terms of income then nobody tries to achieve. The real risk of worrying about those issues as it takes our eye off the ball, which is what the ultra wealthy are doing at our expense.

The problem with you position is that you are assuming that the tariffs are permanent. That isn't going to happen The bill giving authority to the legislative branch to control tariffs is only going to give China a reason to hold out on negotiating access to their markets and reducing their tariffs on our goods. We're the market every country in the world wants to take advantage of. It's time to level the playing field.

Where did I say that? You’re way off.

And when it comes to trans competing in women’s sports we all should give a damn about that and if your not you’re sick in the head.

They are expecting china to buy more south American grain, while also expecting congress to cut them a check for their operating loans if that happens. You know, exactly like last time we went through this.

Great. But if that was your goal then single out the bad actors and tariff the crap out of them. The fact that they are so widespread makes them unsustainable. We’re putting tariffs on islands that have only penguins. Do we now have something against penguins? Are they gay penguins? bisexual? Transgender?

Japan carry trade is unwinding. Tariffs were the match that lit the fuse but this has been going on since Japan raised interest rates in August of last year. Lots more downside imo

Oh my. Just because there doesn’t seem to be an organized plan doesn’t mean anyone that questions it has some weird TDS thing. It’s a rational discussion, not a discussion of principles of faith.
How many republican house members and senators would be opposed to unfocused widespread application of tariffs if they weren’t afraid of being primaried out of office?

There is a plan. Nobody cares about the house members or senator losers. You will oppose him at all costs. It’s your programming. And you’re ultimate undoing

I think he’s right about the transgender athletes deal.
Right about concerns about China bad behaviors in trade.
Right about pushing Europe to step up to help in their own defense against Russian aggression.
Right about delaying full Social Security till 69 given longer lifespans.
Right about Covid being a lab leak (incompetence not intentional).
Right about giving Javelins to Ukraine.

Biden was wrong to run for a second term.
Wrong to give people money not to work.
Wrong to endorse Kamala.
Wrong to support forgiveness of student loans.
Wrong to not put Bernie in his place.
