Let's examine, shall we?
Mike Riley inherited a depth chart consisting of:
*a pathetic offensive line - so bad that Alex Lewis is a captain
*not much in running backs. Let's face it - Abdullah single-handedly bailed us out of at least three games last year. He's been replaced by Newby and Cross (two guys who wouldn't start for any P5 program in America) and some unproven freshmen.
*A starting QB with an IQ of <80. Honestly, when there is < 2 minutes left in the game and your coaches tell you to RUN the ball, what exactly behooves you to throw a shitty pass?
Let's examine the QB scenario a little more, shall we? A walkon QB from Grand Island missed ALL of summer workouts due to personal problems, and yet he still beat out the two remaining scholarship QBs on the roster (Darlington and Bush). How pathetic is that?
*Westerkamp along with a bunch of walkon whyte guys at WR
*A defensive line depth chart where McMuffin (completely worthless) is the only scholarship DE
*Two (yes, 2) scholarship linebackers
*Not one shutdown cornerback in sight. Again, not one.
Now, given the above-mentioned FACTS, who in their right mind thought that this season was going to go smoothly?
Yes, it 169% completely blows that we blew it against Illinois. And yes, there were some SERIOUS coaching snafus yesterday.
But anyone who thought that 2015 was going to be a banner year for NU football did not do a cursory glance at the roster that these coaches inherited.
I hate losing as much as anyone, but the bottom line is this: we are the victim of four previous years of haphazard, lazy recruiting efforts.
Any mouthbreather who claims otherwise does not have a clue about P5 football.
Fact./
