Fred should be fired today

I think he should be fired. He’s done very little in 6 years. You can win at Nebraska (ask Danny Nee about his 90’s Teams). 1991 was a beautiful team - Nee called it Noah’s Ark once -because he had two very good players at every position. And that team also had quite a few players that were not highly recruited - Clifford Scales, Beau Read…and others. I’m not even sure Piatkowski was highly recruited ( or a top 100 guy).

Fred won’t be fired though He will get next year.

NC State just canned Keats, guy went on a lucky run last year to get to the FF and this year, sucked again. The writing was on the wall and NCstate is looking for a new coach, they will probably higher Will Wade who will have them in the dace pretty much every single season.

Tell him to write BIGGER NIL checks for basketball or STFU. We’re going to have to pay more and better guards more than anything else if we want win in the B1G. Brice was the only guard on this team who should be a B1G starter.

We didn’t lose to Duke or Auburn. 4 of the last 5 loses were to the bottom half of the conference that isn’t going dancing. NIL had nothing to do with that. Dingle do you work in the Nebraska athletic department? That’s the only sense I can make of you never ever blaming the real problem. This is a pattern with you

Whoa whoa whoa this isn’t matt rhule we’re talking about
It’s the same gaslight right? Tank in the second half of the season. Lose to a crap Iowa team to end the season. Maybe Fred gets into the NIT and wins a game or two, that’d be on par with beating BC in the pinestripe bowl. Maybe Fred can cancel a game or two to match Matt.

But I get it, we have a strong fan base and most of them don’t want to face reality during the off-season cause no one likes to face no hope

Well, I was thinking to myself, it’s just the new normal for NU athletics to lag behind the big boys in any sport really, but then you said it: it’s the NIL, dummy! $ is the great equalizer now. Now having said that, maybe we are still a “small market” University and will always be at a disadvantage?…..what do we have to do to get enough $ to compete and offer the biggest carrots?
It’s not just a matter of money. I’m a huge KU fan and they spent a ton of money bringing in AJ Storr, Rylen Griffen and Hunter D. They’ve struggled this year because the pieces don’t fit well. Even with a HOF coach, Gone are the days where players develop over time, learn to play with each other, develop chemistry.

It seems like Fred has to turn over his entire roster every year and there’s little chance that can be very successful.

KU made the mistake or playing through Hunter. It clogs up everything for them and then like you said, the pieced they brought in just don't really fit.

NIL as it exists today will go away if the House settlement is approved next month. According to the Sports Illustrated article linked below, the Power 4 conferences have agreed to create a separate entity that will serve the following functions:

“First, it will oversee a cap management system, ensuring schools stay within the $20.5 million annual revenue-sharing limit. It will additionally establish an NIL clearinghouse, run by Deloitte, to assess the fair market value of NIL deals and prevent schools from using booster-backed collectives to bypass the cap.

A new investigative and infractions unit will police violations, including tampering and salary cap circumvention. Penalties will include fines, revenue-share reductions, and suspensions for coaches and administrators. The power conferences believe this structure will prevent the chaos and unchecked spending wars that have defined the NIL era thus far.”

So, if the House settlement is approved next month, a person could pay NIL money to a player only if the person uses the player’s name, image or likeness, and the amount of the payment could not exceed the fair market value of the name, image or likeness, as determined by the clearinghouse. Collectives and big boosters could not fund “pay-for-play” NIL deals, as they do now. Theoretically, this would make the NIL playing field more level.

Thanks for the explanation. This deserves its own thread.

Do we think Nebraska benefits from this? Or, will it mean you need to nail coaching hires and recruiting/transfer additions, because you can’t buy your way out of mistakes with NIL money?

I mean primarily for football and basketball.
