What is unique at Nebraska these days for a new coach to sell to recruits?
1. Facilities?
2. Academics?
3. History? Now older than any recruit.
4. Location?
5. Area talent?
6. Fans?
7. Players put on a pedestal?
8. Players development for the NFL?
9. National respect for the program?
10. Coaches?

All schools have caught up these days. Are we like at the base of Mt. Everest?

As fans what can we do now to help the new coach?

What was unique back then? Nebraska was still where it was last I checked. USC, UCLA, Alabama, OSU, Texas, etc were all good schools then too as well. Somehow or other when walking up hills in a snowstorm both ways to the stadium, NU managed to get it done. Winning helps everything in the end.

What can fans do? Give Frost time, and lots of it. It may take 5 yrs to win the west, maybe more if Wisconsin keeps rolling, but I do think in Frost we have our guy. He will no doubt have to learn the landscape of the BIG, but it’s time for us fans to be in for the long haul, If Frost is indeed the choice

The last coach and his crew did quite a bid of branding and selling, tapping into the minds of high school students and building quite a bit of momentum each year through social media and networking. This didn't seem to be an issue...
I think that if fans continue to hold recruits as the saving grace of the program it's a false prophecy. I've been guilty of this as well, but it's gotten out of hand.
I think that the new coach will sell just fine. Missing from the list are: coaching relationships and resume, and winning, playing in power 5 conference.
Nebraska was recruiting well within its own division, but the new coach has to do a better job of balancing this individual first/recruiting culture with the culture of actually building a football team. If and when that happens, I'm confident that you'll be able to add some new sales pitches.
The false myth of recruiting has been one of the reasons, IMO, that this program has become a shell of its former self. The program bottoming out during all of this recruiting hype under Riley should open some other's eyes as well about where recruiting should fall in program priorities.

Let's face it, relationships with coaches are almost always the #1 factor in a recruit's choice. Riley used his connections with Keyshawn in California to land some recruits, that otherwise would have never considered Nebraska.

So with Frost, he's going to use the connections he's gained at UCF and Oregon here, while also touting his #1 scoring offense and the fact that he developed Mariota, and that he also won a National Championship here as a player. Any other coach would use their prior connections as well. Then, you get them and their parents to campus and show them all of the resources we have, and then impress their folks with all of the Academics/Life Skills things that we do, and the cutting-edge technology stuff in the Performance Lab, and the amazing fan support, and they see that Lincoln is not just cornfields.....it's really not that complicated.

Be careful with words. "All schools have caught up these days." FALSE.

I agree with Caray, primarily we'll get kids who want to play for Frost. Combined with the maybe not 100% unique BUT STILL AWESOME things that Nebraska offers as a football factory we'll be fine.

The obvious answer is the fanbase. Check out the attendance of the spring game - we're usually in the top 5 (and we charge admission, OSU doesn't). Every game since 1962 has been sold out, seriously? There's a reason for that - our fans love Big Red Football. Think of taking that field each home game knowing 90,000 fans are going to be screaming their approval for each good play. Now add to that fact, Frost is the hottest new coach, and has an exciting brand of offense, kids will play hard for him. He will have immediate impact on recruits. And the media will not shut up about him for a long time. It is the stuff that good stories are made of: One of our own come back to right the ship. Frost could be the first (I think) to have played on a NC team and possibly coach a NC team. Could go on, but will end the rant. GBR

Frost played with Keyshawn and the California recruiting could be a continuation for Scott. Scott has connections in college and the Pros.

Man of those 10 I can only see # 2 and maybe #10 (only time will tell this one) All others at the moment no.
1. Facilities- We were ahead of our time 20 or 30 years ago. Now many other schools have equaled or surpassed.
3. You said it. All recruits have only know Neb as being middle of the road team.
4. Nothing to offer on location. Unless maybe they want that smaller town feel.
5. Are local talent isn't up to level of other programs. We just don't have the population to have a ton of local option
6. Yes we are a bunch of crazy fans, but so are many of the top programs now. will social media ect. Fans can now easily connect with players and coaches.
7. See answer #6
8. Over the last decade we have not had a ton of NFL level talent
9. Our national respect is long gone. Most of the annalists mock us and put us in the same breath as Iowa and Minn.

No doubt it is tough to recruit here. Not impossible. I think with the right coach (Frost) we will be able to get top 10 talent in here.

5 years for a West title for the guy everyone just knows "gets it"... If you say so I guess.

So you’re guaranteeing titles in less than 5? I did say he MAY not, but I guess I ‘m just being a realist to the possibility... but, if you say so, I guess it’s not possible

Nope. Why would he get or need that long? He is being sold as the only possibility or answer.

There are many advantages but IMO number one is the fan base. It impresses a lot of the recruits visiting from out of Nebraska and is not something you can just throw money at to duplicate. Of course Nebraska fans have pros and cons just like others BUT they still are unique, passionate and except for a few bad eggs very classy/sincere in a homespun way.

1. Facilities - Nebraska is as good, or better, than most, and continues to invest in facilities. AD didn't have to break the bank to do it, either. Not only football, but basketball, baseball, volleyball, etc. facilities excellent.

2. Academics - Nebraska isn't going to impress anybody looking for an Ivy education, but they used to have one of the best academic support units in the country. That means all student athletes have advisers, tutors, study lounges, labs, and all the help they need to be successful. Not just an assistant coach checking in once a week to see if they turned in a paper or not.

3. History - History has always mattered in college football, and despite the NFL-ification of the game, it isn't completely gone. So recruits don't remember Nebraska being great? They can see crystal trophies, conference championships, and Heisman Trophies. Recruit impressed by Florida, Florida State, Texas, or Clemson's history? Nebraska's is better. In some cases, much better. They're wearing the same uniform worn by Tom Novak, Johnny Rodgers, and Tommie Frazier. They don't know who those guys are, but they will, and it will matter.

4. Location - Lincoln is within a day's drive of Kansas City, St. Louis, Denver, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, and other population centers. That means, for at least 40 million people, they can still take off Friday and see their kid play on Saturday in Lincoln. Not as high as some other schools, but good enough that Nebraska should be able to recruit the Big 8 Conference region and Western Division of the B1G without it being an issue.

5. Area talent - You sign the 5-8 scholarship worthy recruits each year and fill in the gaps around them. I'm guessing quite a few schools would have loved to have Noah Fant this year. Nebraska fans often discount local guys because they didn't play in a big city. Joel Makovicka was from a town of 300 people and that didn't seem to be an issue for him. I remember him knocking a lot of big-city kids on their pampered butts.

6. Fans - Texas has been giving away tickets to games this year. My employer got 100 to give to employees free because the stadium was going to be empty for their last home game. Don't assume other schools have the same fan support Nebraska takes for granted.

10. Coaches - not lately, but hopefully soon...
