Football Coaches > Nice Guys

It's all spin, all day with you. I'm not some "apologist"; I just live in reality and don't play your game of wild narratives.
I'm am spinning nothing.

you're the one who incorrectly said he spent the night in his office.

you're also the one who seems to still believe your fairy tale version of events despite literal video evidence of the two people involved telling you exactly what happened.

Rhule got to work at 4:30am after a tough night, and within 30 minutes of being there had cozied up on the floor and fallen asleep so soundly he didn't hear his quarterback knock on the door when he arrived.

I posted the video for you. No one else in the world would hear a story about a guy working at 4:30 AM and try to spin that into him being lazy and having to be "shaken awake by his QB". Spin Zone at it's finest.

I'm going to say this nice and slow so you can understand:

he
wasn't
working

he
was
sleeping

per both NGMR and Dylan

DR hit him in the head with the door to wake him

This is funny to me. Just a different face literally getting up on a podium and preaching to the fans. Telling them what he thinks they all want to hear. and everyone is eating it up. Just like they did for Rhule. Hope things get better.
You may have a point there, if the team doesn’t win at least one of the next two games who cares what he says?

You original post said. "Guarantee Holgorsen will never need to be shaken awake in his office by his QB."

That is an insanely disingenuous thing to say about a guy working at 4:30 AM. You are trying paint it like he is sleeping during meetings, or when everyone is around and he should be leading or something. Just misleading and dishonest.

He for sure would find some of the soft, positive-only narrative seekers on this board embarrassing.

Holgorsen might be Rhule’s most indispensable offensive assistant given the current makeup of staff on that side of the ball. The offense has had zero edge and discipline for two years. Finally he fixed turnovers but no physicality and no edge seemingly all year. Bunch of nice guys on that side of the ball. Can’t have a full staff of those types that don’t demand/expect performance
The offense and defense “standard’” has been a double standard all year. Looks to be changing, finally

HE WASN'T WORKING

HE WAS SLEEPING

your insistence on saying he was "working at 4:30am" is incredibly disingenuous. NGMR himself said he got to work and fell asleep. you posted the video.

I was wrong to say he was shaken awake. I should have said:

"Guarantee Holgerson won't need to be hit in the head with the door to his office to be awoken by his QB."

we need a lot less feelings and so, so much more of this in North Stadium

This is also why you don’t hire 23 year old position coaches. Especially at a big time program. Some players, many players need to be coached hard to get the most out of them. They don’t know what they’re capable of and need to be pushed hard. These kids want and need a no nonsense teacher who demands high level execution and results. These same kids won’t accept and/or respect that hard coaching from a 23 year old.

He came in early to watch film and fell asleep and no, you can't guarantee anyone won't be asleep at 4:30 AM when no one else is in the office. You know you were spinning, you just love that game, like a politician. I see no use in it.

Hopefully it will result in a couple wins down the stretch because these things can be easily corrected if players are held accountable. But just like Rhule said in his press conference last week “it’s a results based business”, and if Dana can’t help us to a win regardless of circumstance who really cares about empty bravado.

as usual, I didn't bring it up. I simply answered a post that made it all about me for some reason.

lot of that going around this board, per usual.
Mine was in response to the positive only crowd comment. I was saying that was me (should have used the hand-raise gif)

one would usually fall asleep watching film at his desk.

Rhule, in this case, was lying down on the floor - per DR.

these are facts. you are literally arguing that 1+1 does not equal 2.

this board isn't CNN, pal.

On that 3rd and short play early in the game, Dowdell missed a big hole and just ran through someone instead.
Saw that too. Short yardage backs need good vision and a sense of timing to pick the right crease and hit it at exactly the right time. Dowdell’s vision and shiftiness (foot speed, balance) are lacking, though we have a lot of OL breakdowns in short yardage too. Much prefer EJ in general but we also need a better hammer back.

I know what he said.

once again, his words "I come in at 4:30 to watch film" do not match his actions since DR found him lying on the floor of his office a mere 30 minutes later sound asleep, nearly hitting NGMR in the head with the door.

I am not inventing anything. the above is literally what happened according to both the head coach and the quarterback.

DR said the coach slept hear!

Regardless of the specifics, the tale in general is embarrassing given recent struggles. It sounds sloppy, disorganized. Maybe both guys need more sleep to clear the brain fog. I’d prefer hearing about them competently handling their business during normal waking hours. In the games, make the right reads and hit open receivers, and don’t make stupid in-game and clock management decisions that are immediately obvious to even normal fans and the announcers.

Come on, you are completely taking that out of context (again). DR said Rhule slept in his office and he woke him up, not knowing he was there, when he came it at 5 AM to watch film. That is a little different than "needing to be shaken awake by his QB".
Tom used to sleep on a couch in his office so he didn’t waste 20 minutes driving back and forth between home and the stadium during the season. IF I remember correctly he usually only went home on Saturday nights.

NGMR is the face of sleep apnea

I hope he has his C-PAP in his office

that's not something you want to mess around with

Who do you think DH was talking about? "Thought we had you know a couple of runs that were good tough runs that got good tough yards. But you know I Rhule said yesterday there's a lot of yards out there. When I can push the back and there's a whole like this," uses hands to show a big sized hole. "And the backs not in it. It's discouraging. You know and so just got ya know get those guys to open their eyes trust their blocks and... and hit it. I thought at half time I told the RB coach I was like they need to hit that thing better. Cause there were some holes there."
Clearly Dowdell, he can't make people miss

I've been saying this all year. Our WR's are lazy. They jog routes, don't block, commit penalties, and suck at 50/50 balls for their size. Saban would be chewing them out but Satt/McGuire let it go.

Then with Coleman and Lloyd's redshirts secure why don't we bring them back out. Lloyd is bound to drop a few deep shots but will catch a couple as well.

Lloyd has played in all 10 games this year.

he's not redshirting.

he's just not being asked to contribute because jobs were promised to #4 and #18, there is no competition allowed and we don't self-scout

Fine by me. Football coaches are paid to win games not to be Mr. Congelitally. Sometimes a team needs brutal honesty. I'll take a Woody Hayes type coach any day over a "nice guy" who doesn't know what he's doing.

Well that's crazy then. I guess I just haven't seen the ball thrown to him much. Crazy to think how little he has been able to contribute against anyone. Is it wr's or coaching?

I think some kind of group of Lloyd, Coleman, Jacory Barney, and then whatever TE people think is the best. Would be pretty dynamic.

Lloyd finished last year tied for 2nd in the B1G (maybe in the country) in 50+ yard touchdowns

This year:

11 rec, 240 yards, 0 TD
3 carries for 1 yard

His 21.8 yards/catch not only leads our team by a lot but would probably rank very high in NU single season history

Our disgraced former OC, despite running a finesse, pass-happy scheme and seeing what Lloyd’s capable of, decided it’s best to throw it to his new and higher paid employees

Also worth mentioning Lloyd is a homegrown non-traditional 3* football recruit with literal conference championship sprinter speed

The exact type of player Rhule crowed about developing during his previous stops now buried behind two well-paid, low production transfers

In case anyone still thinks NGMR has any conviction toward the “vision” he’s constantly trying to impress upon the closest microphone

Shoots it straight. Like me.

How do you keep a job or if you’re self employed who hires you? Yes I want someone that is honest but I’ve seen way to many so called experts that turn into a blowhard the try to buffalo there way. they are actually bullies and most people just give them space and ignore them a few standup to them and then they get all upset start calling names because they’ve been exposed. You sir are the latter a bully
