What I didn’t like about Rhule’s words in the press conference - he said there was nothing wrong with the scheme and basically put the failure of our entire special teams unit on our long snapper.

To me - that was garbage. If nothing was wrong with scheme - then foley should have been kept and everything would improve with our long snapper. Screw that - placing the blame solely on that kid is garbage IMO. Was it our long snappers fault every time we fair caught within the 5 yard line? Long snapper’s fault we mishandled the punt return causing us to lose to Iowa.

Some of the punt and field goal blocks when we knew they were sending everyone and had no prayer of getting it off even if the ball came to the punter .1 seconds faster.

Our special teams were a joke and the snapper played a part in that. However - punt return, kick return, punt and fg units were all extremely poor and I’m disappointed Rhule made that kid a scapegoat.

I think when Rhule said a total revamp. I think not only a new STC but also how he was approaching it . That may mean more practice times allowed etc… I think with the addition os Mozee and Phillip Simpson we have plenty of recruiters. We can only have 10 on the road at once.i think this new guy is going to concentrate solely on. ST.
Rhule also said he doesn’t think scheme was the issue and that its impossible to spend more time on it than they had been

So once again we’ll ignore his endlessly meaningless rhetoric and see what kind of product he produces in Sept since he’s too chicken to hold a spring game

Agree. That part of the PC rubbed me the wrong way. If he didn't want to be specific about all the facets of the kicking game that sucked, fine, answer the question with coachspeak gobbletigook. But don't brush off all the numerous kinds of miscues on one kid.

If Barthel gets the boot, they should make Ron Brown the RB coach. Roy Helu, Rex Burkhead, Ameer Abdullah say hi and these are just 3 of the names he coached, and look how they turned out. Let Brown have at em.
Brown was an exceptional receivers coach back in the day. My brother loved him. But the receiver blocking on the edge was a thing of beauty when he coached that group. Jon Vedral was a monster on the edge and all of the guys that played were exceptional in blocking the edge. Abdul wasn’t a big guy but tough as nails.

Except the part about being too chicken to hold a spring game. Pretty sure that’s on in some capacity, just not televised.
Paraphrased - Rhule said he didn’t want to showcase our guys so other teams don’t reach out to them. He’s afraid to lose guys to other programs before the transfer window - afraid > scared > chicken 🐥🐓

No paraphrase. Kong said he was too chicken to hold a spring game. Rhule doesn’t want it televised. We will still have a spring game.

Big difference between too chicken to hold a spring game. If he said too chicken to have it televised, fair enough. That’s not what he said.

We won’t have a spring game

We will scrimmage during spring camp

Massive difference, as you well know

Chickenshit move, fans suffer. A shame

I’m sure spring game tampering is why we went 6-6 while our staff shit a bunch of games down their collective leg

Cowardly stuff from our head elf

Shocker:

Loser Foley to remain with the program

One step closer to 501c3 status

One more cocktail party fund raiser. No big deal. We piss away millions on staff at the University who don't do much and have for 50 years.
We piss away money so why not keep pissing away money

Sounds about right for a public institution

I don’t even care about the money

It’s the message that loser retention sends throughout the program that bothers me

With all the consternation about how long it took to name a ST coach, what has he done now that he’s here?

Was Matt your brother? If so, great block he threw against Miami to get the first down on one of the scoring drives in the fourth quarter.

Yes he is and thank you. Matt knew his role and he was a great blocking TE. They brought in Trumane Bell and/or Eric Alford when they planned to pass (about 10% of the time back in those days). But when they needed a good blocker - they turned to Matt. He was a walkon starter and earned first team Academic All American honors his Sr year. He maximized his potential. So I’m proud and happy that you remember. Thank you!
