First Husker to turn Nole. Jimari to LSU

As with so many of our guys who are transferring out, the fact is Butler just isn’t that talented. I keep harping on the fact that we need coaches who can recruit because the #1 cause of our demise is very simple to pinpoint: we don’t have talented players across the board anymore and haven’t in a very long time. Nebraska will never return to elite status until it has elite players again. It really is that simple. Look at our current roster. Other than Ty Robinson which of our starters even cracked the three deep on the all B1G team?

We can bitch and moan for example about how “lucky” Iowa was to beat us this year. And in some ways they were. However, the reason the game was tied 10-10 in the first place was because Iowa had an elite player at running back who made an elite player play against our non elite player defensive backfield. The fact is Iowa out talented us at that moment.

I’ll add having coaches that can turn a 3 star into a 5 star we’ve lacked that since TO except for Bo turning suh light on

Suh was not a 3 star. He was a 6.0 4 star. That's as high of a 4 star you can be without being a 5 star. Bo and Carl didn't have to do much other than to get Suh to channel his anger and coach a little basic technique. Suh was going to be a superstar no matter where he went. Suh did WAY more for Bo than Bo did for Suh. It's amazing to look at that class and the number of high level contributors Callahan was able to recruit that year. Then go look at 2021's class from Frost. Yikes. Only a couple of starters out of that class and virtually all of them are gone.

I am not buying all the teams that he is saying that are interested. I guess we will . Could be wrong I guess.
If Williams goes somewhere really good it will confirm my suspicion that the pendulum is already swinging back the other way. I think teams must be really locking down current players they want. The 105 allows them to do that. People keep talking about getting down to the 105. It's not getting down. It's going up to the 105.

Defensive linemen in the NCAA portal do gather attention from schools. For a guy like Jimari, I remember he was a developmental recruit coming out of HS. He was a basketball player who gave football a shot and got a scholarship. He rode the bench for several years as he learned how to play football, taking up a scholarship slot and not contributing on the field. Now LSU has him for his senior year. He's a grown man with experience playing Big 10 football. He'd probably be a NFL free agent if he went pro. At LSU, if he's not a starter (and I don't know their depth chart) he'll be in their rotation. You need depth in the DL.
Princewill and Williams are similar. They're experienced players. They'll come into their new college not as raw high school prospects but as older players who've played in big time college football games.
Going forward, we need to stop this trend of developing players and letting them leave.

Everybody is going to have recruiting holes and holes from transfers to plug. They can promise a new guy playing time or starts and new transfer has no way to know he's just going to be a depth piece who might not see much playing time. Line transfers ready to compete are always in high demand.

While this is mostly true, another part of it (oft discussed here) is how we’ve recruited classes ranked between #15-#30 most every year, top half of conference, but we continue to have major statistical categories come out ranked in the 60’s-100’s, and therefore we haven’r won games with the talent, often losing to teams with lesser talent on paper. #coaching

We needed those W’s to help bring in the next level of talent. Hopefully we can start trending that way finally.

People would be surprised how much we're actually paying for these transfers. I mean I think we have done a pretty good job at replacing those players we lost, but that price has come at a pretty penny. Probably would have made more financial sense to hold onto the guys we had, who some had more proven experience than those we're breaking the bank for.

We’ve paid up for the ones we wanted to stay.

You aren't going to keep your roster intact every year. Same as the NFL. Decisions have to be made by coaches and players. You have to balance a roster and overpaying for guys like Jamari Butler doesn't make sense.

Neither does it make sense to overpay for guys who haven't produced yet. What we'd pay someone like Butler is a miniscule fraction of what we paid Nwaneri to come here. Dylan got a sizeable bump of his already generous deal after a 6-6 season. It's just insane paying millions to college kids who haven't even produced winning results.

Butler had been in our program for 5 years. And produced 65 tackles. Could he breakout as a 6th year player? Sure. But quit acting like he is Grant Wistrom. People want talent upgrades and NFL talent in the program. Well I'm here to tell you we aren't going to get there with guys like Butler. We might with guys like Nwaneri.

Are you saying Butler produced winning results?
