Really? I saw an article that showed Gundy gets the most out of his players relative to recruiting takings. It would be tough to get used to a coach with a mullet, but the guy can coach.

I seriously question whether or not a coach who's worth his salt would want to come to Nebraska. The NU head coaching position has been a coaching carousel for the last 20 years.
It would be really interesting if someone like Gundy were to become HC at Nebraska although personally, I'm holding out hope for Scott Frost.

Mike Gundy. He's a good coach who wanted (and wants) out.
Good pick. His offense mind would transition pretty smooth to the skill set we currently have now right?

(Not that I'm calling for Riley to be fired).

Mike has had a fairly varied offensive plan from year to year. Right now he has a Heisman-type qb so they like to throw it. However, their run game is pretty stinking good too. In the past they have had teams that liked to run it first. With the exception of Weeden, all of his qbs have been able to run fairly well.

Was this the reason SE settled on Riley because he couldn't lure anyone else?

Obvious it wouldn't be the 4 you mentioned.

I'll give you some bones to chew on... Then you can shut up.

Shaw, Leavitt, Foster, Gundy, Venables,Fitzgearld.
Good picks. Still doesn't prove that they'd be any better than Riley other than Gundy or Shaw.

Probably the hottest young coach right now, who is a few years above Frost, is Justin Fuente. I still think program wise we are equal to or a bit better than Va Tech although they are miles better than us right now. I don't know if Blacksburg can be a destination job for a young guy.

If Riley quits or is fired it is not til the end of the season or maybe even next season - but there are steps that need to be taken now

1. Eichorst is an idiot and needs to go not just because the football program sucks but the whole AD teams suck - he is in charge and has failed and he needs to go away right away
2. Do not fire Riley - good or bad we need this to play out so when he resigns or it is so bad he is fired NU looks justified in coaching circles and in the media
3. Fans need to watch the games and go to games but have expectations that very low right now
4. The administration needs an intervention - NU football is on its death bed unless some seriously right steps are taken - I would put no limits of any kind financially of in fact we need to look for another coach - if it cost 8 million you pay 8 million - may have to tell the Univer they will no longer be getting funds from the AD every year

Out of desperate times the foundation for good can be laid or we will continue to fall even lower than we currently are - its up to those in charge to make the right calls

Funny how people can go to the same practices but have different opinions about what they see.
Don't be in denial. There are a lot of people getting the same information. There isn't much hitting and 1-1 work. Even Sean Callahan said of the three prior coaches Riley runs the most unphysical practices by far. Callahan even did a lot more hitting. Devaney has also played a big role in this. It doesn't matter anyways. The train wreck will be over this year or next.

I've been a firm Riley supporter. Tough to remain so today. Unfortunately I'm not sure what is worse, hitting the reset button again or giving Riley more time. It's a tough situation. We will never be a quick fix program but losing to NIU at home in year 3 is rough
You give him to the end of the year to right the ship. I am STILL not giving up on winning the B1G west this year. I STILL think we can match up with everybody in the west. I was worried about his game. Nobody gave NIU a shot and they are used to winning.

Yeah, sure. He's really got us heading in the right direction. Why do people think hiring an old mediocre coach is gonna work? We are 3-6 in our last games and lost to an unranked Mac team at home.

Not last year or against Boston college at home this year.
