Update:

FINAL
Rutgers 7
Nebraska 6

Knights (20-13, 2-5 Big Ten) walk it off with a Johnny Volpe two-out RBI single up the middle on a 1-2 count. Rans Sanders takes the loss for Nebraska. He entered to start the 11th, allowed a single + a walk before a strikeout + groundout which advanced runners to 2nd and 3rd to set up the Volpe walk-off.

Third straight loss for the Huskers (22-9, 5-2) who just suffered their worst, most painful (unacceptable is another word for it) loss of the season. Brett Sears was terrific (6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K on 89 pitches) in a pitcher's duel against another one of the top aces in the Big Ten (Rutgers LHP Justin Sinibaldi: 7 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K on 111 pitches).

Scoreless through 5 innings on both sides with just seven total baserunners (just one of which advanced past 1st base), then five combined runs in the 6th and four combined runs in the 8th.

Will Walsh gave Nebraska a 6-2 lead (thought to be a commanding one at the time) with a two-out, three-run HR in the top of the 8th. Rutgers chipped away with one run in the bottom half and then scored three runs in the bottom of the 9th to tie it and send it to extras. Kyle Perry entered the game to start the 9th (not Casey Daiss) and loaded the bases with one out on two singles and a walk.

Daiss then entered in a one-out, bases-loaded situation and allowed a two-run double, intentional walk, game-tying single. Then, he recorded a flyout and groundout after the Knights had already tied it at 6-6.

Nebraska had a chance to add insurance in the 7th (runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs) and to go ahead in the 11th (Dylan Carey leadoff double) but came up scoreless. Two popup outs and a strikeout spoiled the chance in the 11th, which followed three strikeouts by the Huskers in the 10th (the last of which came after Gabe Swansen had reached first on a single).

Nebraska lost to Ohio State (9-3) on Sunday and to Kansas on Tuesday (13-11) for its first losing streak in two months (Feb. 17-18 in losses to Texas Tech and Oklahoma). Huskers were on the verge of snapping that skid with what would've been a huge Game 1 road win tonight against a very, veryyyy up-and-down Rutgers team.

Instead, it's 3 Ls in a row and a big Game 2 coming up tomorrow. First pitch set for 2pm CT on B1G+ and Huskers Radio Network. Pitching matchup is Nebraska RHP Mason McConnaughey (3-2, 2.86 ERA) vs. Rutgers RHP Jake Marshall (1-1, 4.97 ERA)

Approx. an hour away from first pitch between the 'Skers and Knights. As noted earlier this week, Nebraska ace Brett Sears is in the elite tier of college baseball pitchers, ranking top 10 nationally and Top 3 in the Big Ten in several different categories (STORY LINK)

Joining him among the Big Ten's elite group of pitchers is Rutgers ace Justin Sinibaldi as the two are neck-and-neck in a few of those same statistical categories. And that'll be the pitching matchup tonight. Will it be a pitcher's duel like the on-paper projection suggests? Or will it turn into a random offensive slugfest on a Friday night in Jersey? Who knows, that's the fun...

Game 1 – Nebraska (22-8, 5-1 Big Ten) vs. Rutgers (20-12, 1-5) – 5 p.m. CT
Watch:
All three games will be available to stream live on B1G+ while Game 3 will also be available to watch on Big Ten Network with Connor Onion (play by play) and Danan Hughes (color) on the call.
Listen: Huskers Radio Network with Dave Gustaf (play by play) and Ben McLaughlin (color) on the call for the full weekend.
Pitching Matchup: RHP Brett Sears (6-0, 1.14 ERA) vs. LHP Justin Sinibaldi (4-0, 2.68 ERA)
