Final Grade on this Class

Its a very good class. i wish our o line could see the success of our wrs but glad to have those recievers. Also wish we coulda filled the class but perhaps we arent done if we get some transfers so its wait and see.
If top ten is A, top 20 is B, 30 C and so forth then we are right around B or B+.
Its a good step in the right direction but we need to take another big step next year. Williams will have a full year to recruit so that should play dividends, plus we know what kw can do, and parella should build off his great first year, and riley seems to knock it home with parents especially, so i think we will.
I know theres people who want to argue whether winning matters to recruits but i feel it does. I said this last year and with the above staff points i really mean it...10 wins next year equals a top ten class. Book it.

I agree with you about the amount of o linemen, but I would to have seen better quality prospects like Foster Sarell.
I really really like Walker and Jaimes videos... If you can tell me how Farell's video is better by all means do so. Jaimes video is probably my favorite one in the class

who cares about Calvin---we got four great WR---and i think Calvin will be disappointed in living in eastern Washington, vice Lincoln where his heart told him to go. i suspect that Leach showed him the outstanding WR we had--and said---tough competition.
Who is WR number 4 you speak of?

I give a B+ to A-

Well all see where we ended up on Rivals, hell ESPN recruiting had us at 10 4 star players and 3 in the top 300 players in the country and this we will like....Two DTs being 4 stars. So taking the average of all the sites im solid with this class.

Mike said in his interview on NSD that next years class will be DB heavy and this years class is kinda where he wanted it to be. So if hes golden with it, then im good, too. Hes the one with a plan and knows what there doing. We are the monkeys looking in im afraid.

That's your opinion and you are entitled, but I don't have justify to you about how I feel for one player or another.

People who read my posts know I am a sunshine pumper mostly. However, I give this class a C. A "C" is average. It could be argued that with 128 FCS teams, a ranking of 64 is exactly average, then depending on the statistical method chosen, ranking #20 is somewhere above dead-center average. Using a standard normal distribution (bell curve), Grades of C- to C+ span from a class ranking of 107 to 21, that is, 34% plus or minus the median of 64 teams. A ranking of 20 to 5 represents B- to B+, and the top four teams get an A. Of course this is a pretty harsh curve and if teachers really used it parents would burn down the school. So mathematically at Rivals #20, we scored a B- using a harsh curve, and a solid B using a more friendly distribution.

However, we are Nebraska with our tradition, facilities, support, and fans. Being ranked #20 and not filling the class is IMHO "average" and our ranking and good stable of players we got is very like the classes we usually get, namely - average to where we have been for a long time.

I've struggled with a ranking. As I said from the start, top 15 or bust. Well, we busted... But not by much. I absolutely like the players we got. They are all either elite players or local players who you know will play their asses off. What ultimately hurt us was not filling the class, having a flaky wide receiver decommit, and a couple of big time players pass us up for other schools. It happens. I really feel like we can build off this class, and that's the 1st time I've said that in a long time.

Final grade... B-. Can't quite give a B, but won't give a C either, because its not an average class. In fact, if there was a grade somewhere between a B- and a B, I'd probably go with it. Like if 85 was a B, and 80 was a B-, I'd go 83.

A

This is the best in years. We were all over the news today. Kid's seeing Nebraska being a tough choice for a 5 star living in USC's back yard! Ya, we didn't get him but just the effort by the staff, the quality of the kid's, (grades, character, attitude, talent) this is an A class who I can't wait to see as a building block towards what we all want.
A??? At top 20?? What do you consider the top 5 - A+++??? This might be considered an A based on Nebraska's past standards, but considered to other programs???

I agree on a grade of C and disappoint as the school spent millions just to be running in place.

Michael Severe loves Jaimes and thinks he'll be a multi year starter for us at left tackle.

You can't grade a recruiting class like you do a multiple choice test. It has to be graded like an essay. In a multiple choice test, each person has the same 25 questions. That is not the case in recruiting. Each school has different needs, different numbers etc. now if each school had to use 25 scholarships and had to recruit a designated number of players by position, 1 QB and 2 RB 4 OL and so on, at the end of the day you could do some comparison grading. But that isn't the case.

I have used this before on here but will use it again because it's accurate. If a team recruitee the top 5 OL, the top 2 QBs, the top 2 WR the country they would be ranked very highly. However when you look at their roster they only had 3 LB on scholarship but didn't recruit a single linebacker. Again to Rivals, Scout, 247 the class would be top 15 but their needs weren't met. so in my mind it would get a lower grade than the 18th ranked class that Riley signed yesterday.

And the bottomline is that the only ranking that matters with this class is what they do on the field and we won't be able to write that story for several years.

I know you can't actually judge a class until all the players have graduated, but what is your final grade on this class as it exists on paper?

We had a lot of momentum heading into 2016 and throughout much of the Fall. It was exciting to be in on so much top tier talent. We also closed this class with 3 Top 100 players, the most since 2005 when we also got 3. We were in it with many elite players right up until the end. We also filled some needs on DL.

BUT, the class has some holes as well: safety, running back, a fourth WR, to name the few that stand out to me. Also, with that excitement came some inevitable dissapointment, as what looked like a Top 15 class turned out to be a Top 25 class, more or less par for the course. Most importantly, I think, is that we undersigned yet again. Now, I actually don't want to be like Alabama or Michigan and oversign players only to cut some later. But when you figure in attrition, we still aren't doing ourselves any favors even after you consider awarding scholarships to a deserving walk-on or two. I also know that Riley mentioned he likes to have an opening or two for transfers. Hopefully that happens, or else these few other spots are going to waste.

Perhaps our biggest signings were on the coaching staff, and hopefully those pay dividends next year and beyond.

Overall, I give the class a B+. Really excited to see how Lindsey, Gebbia, and Daniels turn out.

I predict Jaylin and Gebbia will turn out to be really good, and I mean really good.

It's a B class. NU is not going to have an F class. You could argue that a D or weak C would be a class of 30+. Depending on service, this class is low 20s/high teens. If we picked up a couple more of the CA high flyers, folks here would be saying A as we'd be in the top 15. So it's a solid B grade. I think some people really want to have a narrow B window.

You have a funny way of grading. We should rarely have C level classes precisely because we invest $$$ into our program.

I think a retrospective study would say that Pelini had an F class so it is possible.

For some reason when I read this I had a flashback to Thorton Mellon going back to school and getting his oral exam from Dr. Phillip Barbay that had only one question, but the question had 26 subparts and each subpart had four supporting questions. Luckily Thorton said, “Four” and passed the exam.

Final Grade for this Class will be posted in 5 years. Yesterday was not the end. Yesterday was the start.

Guys like Jaylin Bradley have big time upside. His recruiting ranking is awful. A lot of our 5.7 and lower ranked kids have tremendous upside. In past classes, I was not as high on those lower ranked kids as I am this year. The only one I am not really super high on is Bando. Hope I am wrong there. NE kids like Bradley, Walker, & Allen have that "what if they played @ the top level in HS" how would they look. Cant really state that with BB.

I also believe we signed the best QB in the B1G. I don't have a lot of confidence in Martell @ tOSU. Doesn't seem to have a lot going on between the ears. If anyone had a chance to watch his & Gebbia give interviews on BTN yesterday, did you notice the difference between intelligence?

Yea Spinner, that's where the evals of the staff come into play. I am sure the ranking of the services is in their database, but they are also giving them in-house grades and ratings. A guy like Bradley is local and was a question to qualify. Compared to his rivals rating, he could easily be a value buy for us, so to speak.
Failing to land a couple of those CA kids at the end was the difference between a solid and stellar class.

Ironically, your last statement should probably read "the difference between their intelligence?"

Gebbia did an interview with 1620 a few weeks back I wasn't very impressed with, so the kids have their moments.

Anything higher than a B+ and your koolaide is pretty strong my friend. I love the additions we got yesterday, top to bottom very solid. Just like tests in school. If you miss an answer your deducted points, and more importantly if you leave questions unanswered (undersigning) your deducted points. But we can't really grade this class yet anyways, as there's extra credit to be earned (transfers).
