Fidone to the nfl

I always liked the kid, but damn he ran like Frankenstein. Being from Council Tuckey, it really pissed off the peebirds that he chose DONU

Kyler Reed averaged 20 catches per year over three years. Cethan Carter averaged 21 over his last two years. Stoll average 23 over his middle two years (his Sr. year was COVID). Carter and Stoll both played multiple years in the NFL and Stoll is still on a roster. Fidone averaged 30 catches per game over his two years of playing. Maybe Fidone doesn't get drafted, but that doesn't mean that he can't make a team.

My unbiased opinion is that the best scenario is undrafted free agent and then cut. There are a ton of guys who were super productive in college that have fallen off the face of the Earth.

Per game?

People are delusional. He was totally misused. Of course he has to majorly improve his blocking, but has NFL size and good to very good hands. A lot of people seem to be overlooking that he may have gotten enough of a positive draft response to take a chance.
His knees were completely wrecked and to be honest I think it's great that he was able to play healthily the last two seasons. It's probably wise that he enters the draft now because another knee injury and it's likely over. Normally he'd be a player that would benefit from another college season, but again, his injury history is to substantial to not go now.
He has decent size and the blocking can improve. NFL teams often do look at potential and raw ability. His downfield speed and ability to catch in traffic are average at this point. He is likely looking at UFA. Hopefully he can make a roster and eventually get some playing time.

I do not know if Fidone will get drafted, but as far as his productivity, he is just a few career catches at NU shy of Jack Stoll, who played 4 years (one Covid shortened) and not 2 like Fidone. Stoll is currently on an NFL roster.
Has nothing to do with his productivity it’s his knee issues.

Exactly. Maybe he will get better coaching in the NFL to try and turn him around, but he was a bad TE here. Mediocre hands and blocked like Taco Johns famous Potato... OLE!!!!

He definitely didn't live up to the hype, which I don't think was totally his fault. But saying he was a "bad TE" seems a little hyperbolic.

He has played 2 years injury free. If the injuries have shaved the top off of his basic athleticism, testing will root that out. Plenty of guys with injury histories in the NFL.
Thats what it appeared at least to me once he got healthy. He just didn't seem to have the same explosiveness he did before his knees got destroyed. Which is totally understandable. But maybe my eyes deceived me, I'm far from an expert.

True, but I don’t understand it. I would’ve stayed I college forever if they let me. I felt that way when I graduated and I still feel that way 25 years later. Then throw in the fact that Fidone, a “local” product, can probably make more NIL money at NU then NFL… it makes zero sense to me.

IDK, maybe Holgerson/Rhule told him he wasn’t going to play much if he didn’t improve on “XYZ” and he decided this was his best possible financial decision? Just seems like a poorly calculated decision from a 20 year old who lacks perspective. I guess time will sort it all as usual…
Fidone can not make more NIL money at NU than if he makes a practice squad. He’s just ready to get on with his life one way or another.

That's what I thought. Couldn't he stay at NU or transfer somewhere for a six figure salary? I don't like his chances in the NFL. Maybe his NIL salary was actually going to be pretty low here or wherever he went?
I think practice squad guys get roughly 200k for a season. There’s no way he’s been getting that at NU. He’s shooting his shot and going to find out one way or another.

Consider the practice time that Fidone missed his first 2 years. People seemingly forget that. He is still a very raw player that as far as I know, didn't miss a snap for 2 straight years. Size is in the top range for an NFL TE. Massive catch radius. All it takes is one team to draft him late and he had the inside track at making a roster.

He needs to hook up with a trainer and work on his flexibility and explosiveness! His chance (I believe) is as an UDFA, which would allow him to choose the opportunity that would be best for him!

Good point. I just don't see a way that Fidone sticks. His only chance is as an inline tight end. He actually runs pretty well for an inline guy, but he didn't block well at the college level. The NFL is an entirely different animal. So how does he stick with a pro team? Jack Stoll made it as an UFA but he was a better blocker and he landed with the perfect team. I hope Fidone finds that perfect team too. If anyone deserves a break, this kid does.

Only one way to find out. He'll get signed and get a shot. He's as good as some of our previous recent TEs who got blasted on this board then ended up on rosters for a while.

The injuries can’t be helped and are too bad

It also sucks that he has been knowingly made to try to learn his craft under a GA and an actual idiot the last two years.
