Fidone moving on

Would need to bulk up some. Haarberg is a pretty interesting option. Boerk being back helps in the blocking TE area. Not sure how big Ingwerson is now but early on there was talk about building him in to an OT. I expect him to play some this year.
Boerk being back?

Yeah the kid had the injury bug for sure and we had high hopes for him. I've been critical of his play but he improved in his last 3 games because his blocking got a little better. Maybe this is a win win for both parties. If they want to go let them go. Time to roll with the younger talent I think fidone reached his ceiling unless he goes somewhere that emphasizes blocking

Good luck to him.
Agreed. Gotta wish him the best and wonder what might have been.
This might be a lesson in "putting all the eggs in one basket" at any given position. We have let some fine in-state tight ends get away after anointing Fidone as The Man -- Prep kid to Iowa, Stromsberg TE to Illinois and Columbus Scotus grad to K-State. There's also Brahmer at ISU. I sure hope Haarberg and some others come through and make that position strong.

Define stacked???

PS Iowa sucks.

If Fidone enters the draft with eligibility left he is more arrogant and dumber than I thought.
He’s had a couple of serious knee injuries. He’s probably thinking his best shot to play in the NFL is to give it a go now. Even if he’s an UDFA, he’ll get to see where he’s at. IF he doesn’t make a team he can get on with his life after football.

Too often this board exaggerates the NFL potential of its favorite players and then ridicules guys they don’t like. Both situations are usually off the mark. We see it every year. We’ve had multiple guys make NFL rosters over the past couple of decades who were widely mocked on this board. The first notable one I remember for me was Shanle. Somebody is going to take a flyer on Fidone staying healthy.

HH and Lindenmeyer are fine options already. Freshmen Ingwerson or Flynt could easily emerge. I’d still lean that Nelson ends up a TE and I don’t think the hip kills his career.

The “no pass catcher talent” makes absolutely no sense. It was better this year than last and we have upgraded the WR room again for next season. The best dude in that room eligible to return, is returning and we added more transfers and way better incoming freshman. WR room is by far the deepest on the team. I would expect more transfers out.
Nobody is saying we don’t have talent

What we absolutely, unquestionably don’t have is many proven producers.

Key and Barney belong. Barney weighs 165lbs. Hopefully both stay healthy all offseason and during the season.

Hunter is a good prospect who put up some numbers on a crappy ACC team. The last Cal WR who transferred here sucked out loud. Who knows what to expect from him.

The rest have done jack shit. And if you’ve been following NU recruiting for longer than 1 year, you should be leery of projecting true freshmen to produce anything at WR.

We are 1 injury away at all 3 WR positions from having to rely on a guy who’s never played a college down.

In a pivotal year, at a premium position, we have no proven depth.

I wish him the best. Things didn't quite work out in his football career at Nebraska the way he had planned, I'm guessing. Hopefully he has an opportunity to have success somewhere else. I'm guessing his knee issues will scare many potential suitors away. Perhaps he's been humbled which can be a great gift when needed. Good luck to Mr. Fidone.

Fidone may be making the smartest move. Right now his agent can say he wasn’t handled correctly at Nebraska (lousy game planning by Satterfield) and that his numbers improved after OC change. It’s possible someone uses a 7th rd or signs him to a contract rather than just an invite. But another year of middling results and he loses his excuses. And his knees are probably not going to get any better so he may as well leap now.

His numbers didn't really improve under Holgorsen. In fact, the only game that he didn't have any receptions was under Holgorsen (Wisconsin).

This obviously must have caught the staff off guard? No way you let Boerkircher walk and don't get a transfer if you know Fidone is leaving?

Either way, going to be fun to watch. Luke Lindenmeyer time.

The NFL values:
1. Elite athletes with the right combination of height, weight and explosive athletic ability.
2. Highly productive college players that don’t deviate too far from the ideal height/weight/explosiveness template.
3. Players that are consistently available. They have a knack of not getting injured and/or tough enough to play through it effectively.

Fidone doesn’t rate well on any of these metrics. The NFL doesn’t care how many stars you had out of high school.

If he makes an NFL roster, I will be happy for him. And surprised.

He played/mostly started 2 straight years in the Big 10 at TE without missing a game due to injury?

The hate for Fidone around here has almost become comical. He has ideal NFL size, a massive catch radius, hasn't missed a game in 2 years, and straight up doesn't drop passes. Steadily increasing production year over year.

Yes, he is a liability as a blocker, and yes he lacks explosiveness. I think the explosiveness was exasperated by the stupid, short catch and runs Satterfield was calling all the time. Would anyone be shocked to see some team in the NFL teach him to block? I wouldn't. We had olineman that struggled blocking here and had long NFL careers.

Fidone looked average to below in every game he ever played in college. NFL is the top 5 % of athletes. I don’t see it.
