Ferentz locks up $500k bonus for that elite 8th win

Imagine an incentive laden contract to keep you competitive after 20 years, where you pay a head coach $4.7Million and he delivers 8+ wins. ($587k/win)

Now imagine paying a coach $5Million for 4 wins and paying over $2Million to the coach you fired. ($1,700,000+/win)
So, you are ok with rewarding a coach for mediocrity in year 20? Got it. Congrats on beating a bad team to get there.

Might be the reason one program has 5 trophies and the other will never even think about sniffing one.

Ferentz donates far more than the $500,000, so it goes to a good cause. There’s problems with that? It’s not a great year for the Hawks, wasn’t supposed to be, Next year is.

For Iowa it's a great season and congratulations to them Enjoy it now because its not going to last

When did 5-4 become a "great" season, do not kid yourself. Iowa won the games they were expected to, maybe less one. Ideally, 7-2 or better, since one wants to play in Indianapolis.

Tough road otherwise. Good finish for Scott Frost. Entertaining game.

I’m confused by this stat.. who’s record is this?
Edit: I see, he went current year 1st in talking about Nebraska.. worded it weirdly..

LOL at Iowegians...KSU won 4 of 5 from Neb in the early 2000s too...against much better NU teams too...it will turn against the browneyes soon enough.

Even crazier he turns around & donates that to the Children's Hospital, am I right? Crazy old KF being generous. Lunatic.
But doesn't his salary come from Iowa taxpayers? So that's a farce so what, it's really not Kirks money it the state of Iowas money going to the children's hospital

He probably feels guilty for taking bonuses that he doesn't deserve.

No - his salary is fully self-funded through the athletic department, which is worth $117 million last year, btw (19th) compared to $110 million for Nebraska (22nd).

when the contract was announced in 2016 Barta/Kirk were concerned with optics so they propagandized a salary of 4.5 mil. But anyone who read the contract understood he was making 5+mil for the next 10 yrs at a minimum. That "bonus" bar was set low intentionally to allow the AD to lie about the compensation package. The sheep took the bait and Kirk took the U of IA for an expensive ride. His son has already built a Taj Mahal in Iowa City in preparation for when the HC position is handed to him. You can't spell Barta without s-a-t-a-n

Thanks. I’m now dumber for having read that.

all I know is Huskers plus 9.5 was cash money today, 10 point fav's had to kick at full time just to hope to win against that team, don't know which team is the bigger fraud, Northwestern or Iowa - and the future is much better in Lincoln than anywhere else in the B1G West

Really taking shots at two teams that beat you this year?? And you don’t know the future it could work out it might not

And that does what for Nebraska fans?

“Our coach makes more that Kirk Ferentz!”

“We lost, but our coach made more money.”

Dumb!
As is any reference to salaries. EVERY. SINGLE.COLLEGE COACH . Is grossly over paid for their contribution to society

KF makes less than 4-8 Scott Flop.

This is just garbage. You have to come on our board with this crap after you win. If you think Frost is a bad coach and that this teams trajectory isn’t up, then you don’t know shit about football. Go back to your boring ass life in Iowa. Can’t wait to play you dirtbags next year.

You should see what Nebraska fans are doing on the Iowa board. And after a loss. It’s really weird.

Good for KF to donate so much of his salary.

He is a 20 year coach that is 151-101, almost exactly 7-5 average for his career. Iowa is who they are and have been for 20 years, nice , sound and every once in a while really good followed by crappy then back to 7-5 life.

Nebraska has been down the last few years with a coach that shouldn’t have been hired, after a coach who could keep his emotions in check to win the big games.

Our current coach is going to get things turned around. Need to get the lines fixed and tackle on defense, but those will come. If a coaching change is needed on staff, I think he is capable of making the change.

In three years Iowa will be still Iowa 7-5/8-4 and loving it while Nebraska will be 10-2/11-1 and playing for a chance to get into the final 4.
