How many remember Tim Miles getting beat at home against Incarnate Word in Basketball?

Crazy Game in the second, leading NDST 16-3 early 2ndQ. Stopped Incarnate Word inside the one.
Could have been 23-3.

While Fred has managed to make me miss Miles at times, Miles seemed to have a penchant for an annual head-scratching loss - Incarnate Word, Gardner Webb and Samford, to name a few.

My take on that was he fumbled, his fullback on the ground recovered, the ball was then dead belonging to ND, then the ICW guy ripped it out of the fullback's hands. But hard to tell with only 1 replay view.

ya that was a blown call he clearly fumbled the ball..
Ref said the call on the field was a fumble recovered by the offense. Not sure that was correct either, but that was the call that would have had to be overturned.

Incarnate Word knows they’re only down by 3, right? Sure don’t act like it.

That would be the only thing that makes sense. Would like to see more replay angles.

Hell of a game. When NDSU went I formation IW had no answer. RB was patient and picked his holes. When they went spread they got to the QB a lot more. Bison playing for 10? I thought that’s what the announcer said.

Hard to imagine that style of football could win so many championships :)
There very good at what they do, but know one can’t tell me that playing all their games at home in the playoffs isn’t a huge advantage…

Bison where very fortunate to win that game UIW self inflected when they had 16 -3 lead should have been much more in that 1stQ..

Both teams beat NDakota by 21 points..
Would have been an early season game with Frost still here. Defense gets shredded and we lose 37-34 on a last second field goal. Plethora of threads ensue about how we are "close" Laughing

I watched and agree...but you gotta win to be in that position. They seem to always be the most physical team regardless. Chucking the ball downfield into double coverage from a 7th year QB on that last drive was mind numbing.

I believe this is the 13th consecutive year to the finals... Not unlike FBS where you win one or two games to the title, this takes 3-4 games to win. EXTREMELY impressive considering this is the third coach to keep the string alive; Craig Bohl laid the foundation, Chris Klieman kept it going, and now Erntz. . NDSU also has 3 QB's in the NFL on rosters...

I have cousins that have season tickets and have told me besides some games against MVC games the majority of games are boring because NDST is so much better and games aren’t competitive until the playoffs..

Bison were not in the finals in 2016 and 2020 spring Covid season..

pulling for montana state today and to win it all this year. their coach, brent vigen was bohls oc a couple years ago. same game. run it if you can with a decent pass game if necessary. defense sort of a patchwork at times just hoping for a few stops. basic football for 60 minutes

Have to believe Rhule is going to offer some of these top guys scholarships instead of giving them the walk on treatment only

SDSU looks strong. NDSU is the walking dead on defense missing 4 or 5 key starters and the fullback out. Two weeks off might help.
It’s my option but they don’t need a 24 game playoff. Gardner-Web had 5 losses and Five other teams were 7-4 including North Dakota and some of the 1st round games weren’t even close to bother with..

Wentz, Lance, Stick. Lance at least has a chance.

Here is the reasoning for the expanded playoffs in FCS in 2010 from 16 to 24...

The FCS long sought NCAA approval on playoff expansion because the 16-team format fell far short of the generally accepted ratio of 25 percent of teams advancing to the postseason in each sport. The modest increase still leaves FCS below 20 (*2022 19.2%) percent of teams reaching the playoffs, but the growth was cautious because of concerns over costs. Future expansion will be considered, Southland Conference Commissioner Tom Burnett said.

"There are, I think, 117 (*2022 125) teams that play at this level (and) if only 16 teams were allowed to get in, I think it's great that more teams can experience this," Lehigh coach Andy Coen said. "Like our kids? This is a memory these guys will have the rest of their lives."

* my research

I think the format they use is the best. The top 8 seeds get a first-week bye, the remaining 16 teams play with the top-seeded teams play at home. The winners then go to the campus of the top 8 seeds campus, and the winners then play on the campus of the top-seeded teams. Then off to Frisco Texas.
