Negative on Ricketts. Same with Means.
This further derails the thread, but I found this question fascinating and then located this website. Somebody once put a lot of time into this website and compilation.

According to this list Lindquist is a walk-on; Means and Ricketts too, as thought. But the compiler's all-time walk-on CBs are Barron Miles (technically a walk-on) and Allen Lyday. More than just a few longtime NFLrs over the years.

Wisconsin and Iowa have been much closer than us to winning a national title - I would settle for being Wisconsin they play well against teams that supposedly have better talent - LSU last year - OSU last year Michigan was a close game last year - they are always in the the top 20 and many times top ten. I would be happy to be Wisconsin

That didn't answer my question or even come close to addressing what I wrote.

Kansas St has been much closer than Nebraska. Colorado has been much closer. They have all had limited success against teams with better talent. But the fact remains, none of those teams mentioned ever go undefeated because the margin for error is so slight.

Bo Pelini's Nebraska teams, played in conference title games and lost. So don't tell me that you will take what Wisconsin does because that's only partially true. You'll take what Wisconsin does, until you want more, then it won't be enough.

Here's what I think is missing. Teams like Wisconsin haven't been able to recruit well enough to get over the hump, so they're stuck in a holding pattern. Fortunately for them, that holding pattern is nationally relevant.

We can recruit better than Wiscy. We should be able to bang out seasons just like Wiscy every single year. The times when our recruiting hits, we move up to the next tier. I think a lot of NU fans would be more than happy with that.

Exactly - walkons and 2 stars only get you to a point.

Agree again - happy for a while.

You have to walk before you run. In my mind we need to start admitting where we are at and that is in the Iowa or northwestern range. Wisconsin is a step above us and we are nowhere close to OSU or Alabama

So while I agree you need talent right now imo what we need more is stability. If we can have an occasion title run and win 10 games while being in almost every game(Which is Wisconsin btw). From there you can then recruit at a higher level, this is what we did before.

I believe with good coaching consistent schemes we can win 10 a year and win an occasional big10 title. Wisconsin does, MSU did except for last year we can do it also

Well stated.
