Emmett

Johnson is one very impressive young man. Very proud to have him as a husker!!
I think Little Emmitt Johnson is gonna prove to be the best back on the team this fall. He seems to have great vision and a knack to get through a small crease then make a man miss. And I think he is a great receiver out of the backfield. Now, there will be questions to answer with how well he can pass protect and he does not have that great breakaway speed. But at this point, I would rather have a back capable of getting into the open field and being run down after a 40 yard gain than a faster back who may not even see the hole.

I liked what I saw from him but I’m not ready to anoint him yet. Rhule did say that he’s “an elite athlete”. I’m not sure why he didn’t play more and earlier last fall.

I'm gonna make the call-- 1000 yards rushing for this young man.

When he committed, I thought well here's another Frost style, late addition to a recruiting class. Probably a 5% chance of ever playing. And man, am I glad to be wrong.
Agreed, I think he gets 1000 and it will help to have some big games early. Hopefully he gets gets near 200 in the first few games.

If we’re smart enough to give him the ball. Too many times last season Satt wouldn’t feed him.

One thing we have going for us this year is a QB who can hit people in stride at all levels. I'm not sure what Satt & Glenn Thomas have in their offense, but getting Emmitt out of the backfield into some downfield pass routes would be very tough to defend.

Might as well put Rhamir Johnson in that catogory as well.

Precisely. If teams have to really respect our passing game this year they won’t be able to key on our running game the way that they could last year. And once the running game starts to click we can finally have a real play action passing game to add to the arsenal. Expect Fidone to have a great season as a result.

But … none of this will happen if our offensive line does not play well.

Great post. The interior of the offensive line must play better and it starts with Ben Scott. He's got to make the right calls. We cannot have D-lineman running straight up the field at our QB. Any pass routes that were slower developing are useless at that point. We had guys go unblocked at times and other times guys easily defeated single team blocks or fooled our line with simple cross rushing stunts.

And second, that play action thing is huge. And it will work much better if we go more under center. I think that Rhule wants to go more from under center but they felt that they couldn't last year due to personnel issues and a general desperation in finding plays that actually would work.

Agree. Rahmir was dangerous in this aspect when we used him. EJ fits that mold as well and Rahmir will have his shot as well. Hopefully we have that in the arsenal.

Dumb. Or maybe use a rb as a traditional rb. You Satt fanboys need to quit making excuses for his sh!tty play-calling

When I have ever declared myself as a fan of our current OC? Satt may not be a good OC but let's face it. The play at QB and WR was very bad- hell, they had a 5'8" guy playing on one leg out there at the end of the year. That alone tells you what the coaches thought of their receivers. So the team limitations alone must have dictated what the OC could call and shouldn't call. But since the results were so poor, who is to say?

I do remember single play calls here and there that were atrocious. Like the Hunter Haarberg QB sneak out of shot gun. That play call was Scott Frost onside kick level stupid. Other play calls weren't really that bad, but horrible decisions by the QB produced the worst possible outcome. In that regard, Satt probably should not have trusted his QBs to make good decisions.
