Ed Reed

This will probably be called racist, but it's true ... HBCUs are anachronisms that really have no place in modern society. They were absolutely necessary in the days of segregation, when the southern state institutions would not allow African-American students to enroll (can you imagine? What a stain on those schools and states; what a disgrace). Back then, HBCUs had stellar faculties, quite often extremely well-educated Jewish professors who too were unable to get the work they should have at state institutions. But since the 70s, when integration finally occurred, HBCUs have been chronically underfunded and have faculties and facilities that do not measure up to the standards necessary for higher education. In a perfect world, HBCUs would be phased out. Of course, that will never happen.
Now, commence to attack. But when you do so, point out what I said that is inaccurate.

I disagree with should be phased out.

Ed Reed spoke his peace. I guess if he wanted a job that bad he should’ve waited until the contract had the dried ink on it. I don’t think what he said was wrong. I also think that these colleges and universities that were set up for a historically needed reason, and still exist, albeit under different circumstances, have a role in society today. But the underfunding of them from the communities from the government from alumni from those who espouse the ideals that these schools were set up for is very sad. I remember growing up, always hearing the phrase put your money where your mouth is. There’s a lot of people who just like to run their mouth, but they don’t back it up with actions including dollars. best of success to Ed Reed, wherever he goes next. Hopefully this university can find a coach who is willing to put up with what the school has created.

Best not to have tape on these pure raw emotions. Not sure he isn’t spitting 100% truth but the method hurts more than helps.

Wow...didn't see that coming in all honesty...curious what the back story is here. Note to future employees, don't go on social media and flame your new company.
My guess...attention is one thing but they did not want that type of attention knowing that it would, in the end, do nothing to bring them more revenue.

I agree and if you are the admins...there is no way you see that and go "Oh, that was awesome of him"

Wow. If this follow-up story is true, Bethune Cookman really shot themselves in the foot. If this story is true, I am guessing a dozen other HBCU will be contacting Ed Reed real fast. Dude uses bad language a lot and seems to really hate the blood sucking powers that be. He also seems to really have the players best interests at heart. It might be interesting to see where this goes.

Why would they still not help?

They want their guy running it right is my guess. Perhaps they think the exact way Reed thinks. Politically speaking, maybe they don't like the swamp attitude he was talking about in his trash video. They collect money with no interest at all in ever improving the place. In the capitalist world, that is a losing business. Keep throwing money at the kind of biz that keeps losing money. They probably were smart enough to not just throw money at a sinking ship.

*actually this story and Deion telling the exact story about Jackson State is a perfect metaphor for every left run city. They are all the same story. Over and over. Collect tax money with ZERO interest in ever improving the place. Reed and Deion both literally told the exact same story. Eddie George joined in and mentioned how Tennessee used those buildings for training camp and nothing had changed. Disgusting conditions that never improve.

Glad to see that now former coach Reid was not just running his mouth, but putting in the legwork to find some people who would help the institution. I do hope that there are other schools that will contact coach and if nothing else, maybe some of those investors will work with those other schools, no matter if he becomes their football head coach or not. The better the education, usually means the less of the indoctrination of making education worse and therefore those young men and young women and our society as a whole.

Sometimes people want to be around their own. It's how it was explained to me by a buddy I coached with. He basically said it's a white man's world and I am going to live in it my whole life. If I can give me 4-5 years around "my people" to bond and whatnot. I get it. Lots of education is from a Euro centric view. Being educated from an AA point can also be beneficial.
Dont really feel strongly about HBCUs either way, but…

If a white man/institution said “sometimes people want to be around their own” to justify excluding black members to be around “my people”, it would not be racist either, correct?

Or is this another one of those double standard situations we’re all supposed to just accept or else we’re somehow horrible people?

Probably except white people are more than welcome to apply and enroll in HBCU's if they want. Nothing exclusionary there. I think many look at HBCUs as a more welcoming option to PWI's.

I'm gonna call bullsh*t on this story. The idea of "billionaire investors" is being floated out there, but I'm gonna say it's more likely a few millionaires making promises that they weren't going to keep. Just a couple "has been" pro athletes exaggerating their own importance and influence.

And as for Ed Reed getting fired before he was really hired, he had it coming. Not a lot of employers out there who are going to like getting trashed on social media by a new hire before the contract has even been offered. Ed Reed has no common sense. And he looks like a hobo.

Wait...are they protesting about the conditions of a place that they applied to, got accepted to and then picked to attend?

That is ballsy! Haha.

I am gonna go protest my car payment.

With that said...those admins have clearly been abusing the money they get for years now.
Does your car payment have dangerous mold?
