As I said earlier in the week, my brother in law just took a job on the S&C football staff at Syracuse. He came home last night to say goodbye before he headed up to New York. So while he was here I asked if he had heard about the Husker kids getting rhabdo and his thoughts.
He said he was glad to hear Duval didn't get into any trouble as more than likely most of the fault lied on the players being dehydrated and out of shape. I said something about how crazy it was that this happened to them in a 38 minute workout.
He explained these 32 minute work outs. Apparently Duval has a pretty solid reputation in the S&C world with this circuit workout and some other regimens he has. It's 16 stations, rotating to each station twice. 30 seconds of work, 30 seconds of rest. So you're literally working on a new lift every minute for 32 minutes. Very difficult.
My brother in law went on to explain another system Duval has that includes doing 12 lifts, 1x12, getting through all the lifts as quickly as you can. Something about the idea of teaching your body to use lactic acid build up to your advantage. He got pretty scientific about it and it went over my head.
He also explained how the Oregon situation was different. Apparently the S&C guy there has some questionable credentials and isn't certified in the same way most other D1 S&C guys are.
Anyways, the reason I was sharing is to say that Duval's reputation in college S&C appears to be very very stellar and he is very respected.
