Duby Boom Nebrasketball

He averaged 3.2 points and 3.9 rebounds a game last year, he is WInthrops all time leading shot blocker with 165.

Well, we desperately needed size inside....but how does a guy with that size and athleticism only average 3 points and 4 rebounds a game in a weak conference?

Because he played 14 minutes per game? Wait - that doesn't make you feel better?

But, as badly as the Huskers need bodies in the paint, it's still a good pickup.

His role was defense and rebounding. He shot it at 60% from the field. He is not a good FT shooter but maybe we can help him with it. He's bigger than Morrow and should fill that role nicely. With the way we shoot it from 3 he'll get lots of put back opportunities.... He'll probably average 12 and 10 for us playing 25-30 minutes.

Averaged 3 and 4?? He'll make a tall body with a pulse for the next coaching staff.

Before you get too excited about Okeke's FG percentage, you might want to note that he shot 18% on jump shots. But 80% of his FG attempts were at the rim and he attempted zero three-pointers. So at least he knows he can't shoot, which can be a positive trait.

No way in Hell is he going to average 12 points per game, but he will contribute.

Sounds exactly like a guy that left that averaged about 10

Uh, something tells me Ed Morrow gets more than 14 minutes per game if he's at Winthrop last year, so I don't think they're exactly the same. But considering it's nearly May, this is an important addition to the roster.

I really doubt if Okeke even attempts six shots per game next year, so it's going to be tough for him to average 12 points. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. I would rather have a PF who doesn't shoot than a guy who insists on clanking jumpers at a 30% clip (cough, cough - Oh, sorry Jake - didn't see you standing there...)

Lol. You had me tell you said maybe we can help with his shooting.

If Copeland gets to play his entire year, Jordy and this guy inside will be exactly what we need. Defense rebounding blocked shots and maybe 12-14 points combined.

I hate to do this to myself but the team actually has a chance to surprise next year.

Watson one year older and nice development since freshman season.

Gill former top 150 guy can perform if healthy.

Roby has great athleticism and clearly needs to develop but has potential.

Evans (many aren't a fan) has a decent shot and could be a solid bench guy.

Copeland can flat out score.

Jordy made huge improvement over freshman season. Would expect more growth.

The recruit who shoots 48% from 3 will be a welcome addition.

It's not as empty as once appeared.

Why would you do this? You have reinserted the jinx! You had to start having hope didn't you? We all have to believe that we will be lucky to win 8 games next year! That's the only way to have a shot at being decent next year!

That's a much more realistic assessment - one that could happen if Tschimanga can stay out of foul trouble.

Sorry, but when someone tells me that a guy who never even averaged more than three FG attempts per game for Winthrop is suddenly going to come to NU and put up 12 ppg, it doesn't really pass the laugh test.

Don't do this to yourself. Just say "Miles is our coach in '17 - '18" and you'll immediately adjust your expectations to a more realistic forecast. Something in the 8 - 12 win range.

Was going to say, sounds like a goid match to have with Copeland and Jordy. Got the shooter in Copeland, defense in the guy and hopefully all around with Jordy.

After watching the video, albeit highlights, I like this pick-up!

My only guarantee will be that he plays more than 14 minutes a game for the Huskers if he stays healthy.

Well he did taste victory over Gardner-Webb three times last year, and he's 6-1 against them in his career. So there is that.

He can block shots, rebound, set big screens, and dunk. PLUS, his name is Dube Okeke!

I envision him being a crowd pleasing paint filler with da-da-da da-da-da highlight real blocks, like a smaller Dikembe Mutombo.

15 of 56 would safely qualify as "not a good FT shooter"

Winthrop probably shot better than 25% from the field which would limit how many put back points a guy like Okeke is going to get around the rim. That and fast break layups was about all the offense Ed supplied. IF he picks up Ed's minutes I could very easily see this guy putting up Ed's kind of numbers. That said, even IF he doesn't, he's a bigger body and better low post defender than Ed was and that could go a long ways to helping our team play better perimeter defense. IF we're not constantly having to help our post defender out on the other B1G bigs maybe we can play tighter on the perimeter shooters. Again, you guys blew smoke up our butts about Ed shooting it around 60% from the field and now this guy does the same thing but there is no way he'll put up Ed's kind of numbers???? Well alrighty then.

We have a sports psychologist at NU. Winthrop I don't believe does. At least half of free throw shooting is psychological and the rest is repetition and muscle memory. Maybe we can help him. Maybe not. It is possible though.

He was a role player on a Big South team. He averaged more than 7 fouls per 40 minutes or about 2.5 fouls in his 15 minutes per game.

We need to temper our expectations. Depth is needed, so I'll take it, but a little realism also needed.
Brady Ernst was the guy I think we needed, but Duby definitely gives us a shot at some post play outside of Jordy

So just to make sure I understand this correctly: Winthrop had a guy on its team for three seasons who's capable of putting up 12 points and 10 rebounds while playing in the Big Ten, but they just chose - for reasons unknown - to play him only 14 minutes per game and give him the ball enough to average less than three shots?

After you get us that exclusive inside skinny on the real reasons the Huskers quit with a month left in the season and Jacobson and Morrow left the program, maybe you can crack this case next?

It's a beautiful sunny day.....ok now it's your turn. Winthrop likes to play an up tempo small ball game and they have the guys to do it. They won their conference doing that. Okeke was a situational role player for them. IMO due to the number of teams in the B1G with true big men, his skills will translate better to our conference than it did theirs. I'm not touting him as Carl Anthony Townes. I'm saying he will fill a HUGE need and get more opportunities for us than he did for them due to the type of opponents we play.

I hope so, because if we don't then he is going to have to sit on the bench if Nebraska is lucky enough to have close games in crunch time. That is assuming he hasn't already fouled out.
