It’s obviously a new world in college football but with the different portal opportunities - the NIL and pay lining up. One thing is for certain college football has action year around.

Some may hate it - but at the end of the day I like that the players have options. As big as the business has gotten it was criminal not to allow income opportunities (my opinion has shifted from a few years ago).

The headcount reductions will ultimately lead to more parity around college football which will be good for the product overall.

I think football is in a very different space but I personally think there will be a lot of benefits to the new world. It will drive clicks and turn into a bit of a soap opera - but the fan experience will still be awesome on gamedays, there will still be awesome stories of players overcoming adversity. Exciting times.

It won't be great as currently structured. I don't know how I should get excited about a group of temporary, transient huskers that flew in for the year and flew out to some other school the next (which it will become). Who would I be cheering for anyways, bunch of dudes that we gave money to wear our uniform.. pathetic. At that point why even care if they win.

I'd rather watch the best 22 guys from Nebraska line up against the best 22 guys from Georgia and battle it out than watch this mercenary crap. We'd get owned each and every year, but so what. At least you can say it's a team that truly represents the state. I'd keep the channel on for that.

We will all hate the portal much less when/if Nebraska starts winning at a very high level.

I don't think so. With success comes more players wanting more money. There will just be more Emmitt Johnsons who expect a big day. No team is immune from players transferring out.

I disagree. The Nebraska football I knew and loved was when we followed players from recruitment to signing day and then followed their careers. I pushed for Emmitt Johnson to get more touches for two years now. He finally breaks out in the last three games and off he goes to the portal. Now there are rumors about other talented young players who haven't even broken out yet.

It's the wild west now. Why would I like that?

The flow of transfers won’t likely slow until there is reform, but the consternation should slow if we find consistent success. Trust in the program will rise IMO.

You think the 105 limit and revenue sharing, on top of nil will lead to more parity? Lol.
Absolutely I do. Without NIL there was no way we would have landed a recruit like DR. Less players with a chance to play on teams will level out where those other players go to get playing time.

It will also help the FCS and Div II schools to land better talent.

Something tells me you wouldn’t be okay with getting owned year after year.

I agree that it was great to see players develop in the program and there will still be a large chunk of the roster that does just that.

My point is there is natural excitement with signing day and transfer portals. Look at the Kentucky WR thread. It all leads to more discussions, more clicks, more excitement the other 6 months of the year when there is no football.

I hate seeing a guy like EJ go into portal - and Wandale leaving still stings. Maybe EJ is renegotiating and will end up staying or maybe he’s out. Regardless there will be many discussions on who we can get for his replacement and that person will have a story and we will rally around him.

I said it from the beginning and I'll say it again - the portal is the only thing giving Nebraska a chance at greatness in the modern world of college football. We have the money and resources to compete with almost every school for talent. If we're not doing it right, that's on us. No way do I want to go back to the old days where there was no incentive for top talent to come to Nebraska.

Then how did Nebraska get top talent in the old days (in the 90's) ? Was it only because one of the greatest coaches of all-time just happened to be from Nebraska, and wanted to coach here ?

If you don't know the answer to that question let me be the first to welcome you back to consciousness after your 30 year coma. We didn't think you'd pull through but I'm glad you did. I hate to tell you this, but a lot has changed in college football since the 90's.

Okay, I'll be a douchebag. You're a moron if you are asking stupid questions about why Nebraska got top talent in the 90's. Let's both wear our crowns dumbass.

The old days = prior to portal/NIL. You're the one that automatically jumps to the 90's when anyone types the words "the old days." You're going to back to ancient times before there was widespread recruiting rankings, national events, twitter, recruiting analysts, etc, etc, etc. The time I don't want to go back to is the era from the early 2000's until about 3 years ago (pre NIL) when every team in the country knew exactly where the top talent was and none of them wanted to play for Nebraska.

Ok, I agree. See, that wasn't so hard ?

I don't like it but there is truth in what is said here^^^^^.

It's why I was so concerned when we tanked Frank and essentially a system that was viable for a school like Nebraska. I knew we couldn't stay on top for ever so Solich's losses didn't concern me like it did others. I knew we would slip after he was let go, but never imagined it would turn into essentially a perennial losing program. A complete "Has Been"

Totally agree ! The original intent, I believe !
