Lots of posts here so maybe I missed one saying he has a new home. But if he is still uncommitted, I wouldn’t assume he’s gone. It’s all about $$$ and his competitor at RB got his bag, so he surely wants more, too.

Forest Gump style here. If Satterfield called for Dowdell to jump over the line on 1st and 10 from the 20 and DR didn't audible, would you expect Dowdell to do it? Or would you expect him to improvise?
Watch how many NFL coaches call a timeout and help a young qb out. No way is that a freshman qbs fault who is halfway through his first season of college football. Who knows if they even wanted him audibling at the goal line.
I'm not celebrating it but I clearly won't miss a wink of sleep either. I think he had a niche but imo it's strictly as a short yardage back. For the most part he's only getting what a play is blocked for. He's not stiff arming or juke moving anyone to any extra yards. He will lower his shoulder and go forward after contact but to me guys like that aren't hard to find. I said it before last year I don't think we have any "difference makers" at RB from that team last year.

He very much compares to Imani Cross, who Bo and Riley used as a short yardage back. He got more run at the end of his senior year, but that was largely because depth in the RB room had hit rock bottom.
EJ is going to get a chance to show whether he can be a feature back for what Holgerson wants to do. I suspect Dana likes him. Good lateral movement and can catch the ball. Top end speed is limited. I'd be happy with Ozigbo level productivity out of EJ next year and I think he'll get more receiving yardage than Devine got his Sr. year.
Yes, when it’s obvious it won’t work. Players make plays. DR didn’t in that situation.
Hopefully we have another dude like him with a little more elusiveness. I felt pretty good most of the time when DD was getting a touch on 3rd and 1 or 2. I have absolutely zero data to back that feeling….and there is also zero shot that I look for it. 😁

Yeah I feel ya. Like I said I think he could be a solid short yardage back for someone. I just don't see the vision, elusiveness ,balance or instincts to be an every down back. To me he was below average in all those phases. I didn't even mention speed so...
I just don't think it's super hard to find a power back to "get what's there" in the run game. How much Dana values it will decide if they decide to go get another one. If I'm him I'm going to try and get a "better" all around back if they take another.
Hell Booth is a big strong kid. I wasn't sold on him being a RB at Nebraska but he has better straight line speed than Dowdell. Weighs probably 210 now...Why couldn't he put on 10-12 pounds by September and be the short yardage guy?
Again I didn't hate Dowdell I just don't think he was anything special.

I think Imani is a very good comparison who Huskers fans might remember. I was never even an Imani fan for similar reasons but I absolutely see the comparison. He was "ok". Kinda like a lot of backs we have had recently. They are "ok". At the top of the depth chart at a place like Nebraska you need more than "ok" RBs. Especially if you plan on winning anything of substance.
If I'm being completely honest as much as I like Emmett and am glad he came back I think we need better RBs than he is. I think he is a solid number 2 who can do "pretty good" in case of injury. Nebraska needs to have NFL caliber RBs on its roster EVERY year . I used "plural" because I think we need at least 2 of those guys.

I think EJ is a nice back. Now we have Parker to try and take carries from him. I hope he is up to the task because rb is a position where a lot of true freshman have done well for us.
Going back to Bo, Newby was supposed to be the next “guy”, and was instead just a good back. He would be our lead back now. Zig finally produced when given a clean shot. But we haven’t had that no brainer NFL running back for years. In hindsight, the inability of Frost be to recruit any marquee running backs was kind of the canary in the coal mine that he was never really gonna get it done in Lincoln. It’s like he came to the Big Ten with the recruiting role of a G5 coach.
Way to take it way out of context. Par for the course. So what do you want DR to do when the pocket collapses? Stay there & take a sack or scramble to make a play? That’s not the design. How about the receiver? When DR is scrambling, should they stick with their routes because that’s what the coach called or should they improvise because the play called didn’t work? Should DR ever call an audible? I guess not because that’s not what the coach called. You’ve taken some moronic positions in the past & this is another one. Winners win, players make plays.
We are all in agreement. Dowdell should have improvised and got in the end zone. Hope he figures this out at his next school.
And Devine was a late 3 star steal from ISU by Riley if I remember correctly.
Divorce is bad (in most cases) so this sounds like we should stop with the opportunities to help curb the divorce date.
Why is divorce bad? 50% of the people (at least) in a divorce are miserable.
If Dowdell is hoping for a bigger payday from Nebraska I think he is delusional. He isn’t worth $ much. He is lucky we had a clueless OC for most of the year who gave him preference. He is a short yardage back and nothing more. How much is that worth?
That is the odd thing with NIL...you may be worth a lot to some team.
I'd guess he saw the writing on the wall with EJ coming back and Holgy wanting a more elusive RB. I really like him in short yardage though.
Given the timing of his portal entry, I wouldn’t be surprised if something happened during bowl practices. Maybe just a sense his spot wasn’t secure.
